I recoded the HTML and CSS for the home page and the comments page. (Locker Room recoding to come.)

Kirk: looks like links to new comments (i.e., of the form XYZ#ABC, that should scroll directly to comment ABC in post XYZ) are busted.

Also, to be a nitpicky bitch: do we need two ways to link to every thread/post? The new extra icon just feels like clutter to me. Thanks for everything you guys do :)

Without asking Kirk, I think that icon's a permalink to encourage webloggers to link directly to a post when talking about it. I like how it and the gray line make each post look more distinct. Anyone else have strong opinions either way?

Kirk, I really like the new look. Subtle changes, but great. I like those little icons next to the threads (even if tieguy doesn't ;P) -- they're cute! One suggestion... at the bottom of the main pages/threads can you put the same links that we have in the lockerroom? For instance, "home" "about" "archives" "customize" etc? (scroll down to see what i am talking about. i hope you understand what i am saying. if not, i'll go drink some more iced latte and get back to you when i am more caffeinated.

So very clean! Thanks for tidying up the place, it's so much nicer.

I for one love the new icon and horizontal line, I have been whining about somebody doing this kind of thing too, and I think it's sweet that someone actually did it. It looks good and helps to make the front page easier to understand.

I have to say, I think it looks a lot cleaner now. I like it!

I am going to buy a google ad to remind myself to look in the other corner for the new posts/comments counter. i like the new discussion bubbles. now if there was a mini icon for a football, soccer ball, hockey puck, basketball, etc then, well, if there is no universal agreement on the new bubble icon then there is no hope for additional graphic flair.

Great work, but I'd like to have the footer links back, too.

I'll put the footer links back tonight.

I'm just going to say, GREAT WORK, PANTHEON! On all the changes: the ads, the donate link, the interface refresh, RSS feeds. It's all good. Clap clap clap clap clap clap clap.

Is it just me that can't tell the difference?

I'm just going to say, GREAT WORK, PANTHEON! Agreed. Excellent design work, smooth transition, responsive with requests for changes. You deserve a raise!

dusted: You deserve a raise! That's what the, erm, "server fund" is for. Heh heh.

rcade: there has been a permalink you can deeplink to for each comment for ages; it's the link in '1:12 PM' or whatever time you posted. Having two seems cluttery/busy to me.

posted by tieguy at 01:55 PM on June 15

That's true, but I think the icons look nicer and are more clear, since some other weblogs use them, so I'd remove the link on the time if we remove one.

Nice work kirkaracha. Though if you could wrangle in the main column a bit on the width side, that would be great. Especially at high resolution, most comments are 1 line and some change...very wide. If you can fix it in Firefox and it breaks in IE, that's cool too. Just hide it from IE ;)

I like icons. Dum-tee-dum.

Posting on my Mac with 10.3/Safari. Everything looks good and behaves as it does in Windows XP/IE6.

Just a bravo all around to the guys working in the shadows to make SpoFi a better and finer looking place. We know it's a lot of work and a decent expenditure of your time, and it's appreciated. Here's to you, Mr. Spofi Improvement Man.

looks great with one exeption. on Moz/XP, the preview comment is squished way over to the left. Some margin would be nice. A small nit.

LOL JG, a high pitched background singer just did a "Mr. Spofi Improvement Man" in my head. Damn ubiquitous advertising.

re: the permalink, i would agree with tieguy/kirkaracha in a sense. having the new icon link bubble on the front page as a link to the thread works. but using it again inside the thread along with another link (a redundant link connected to the time) is not necessary. solution, drop the redundant link connected to the time inside the thread given that the time posted on the front page is not linked. consistent bubble link on the front page and consistent bubble link inside the thread.

posted by gspm at 05:27 PM on June 15

pivo: I'll probably set a maximum width so the line lengths don't get too long. sauril: yep, the posting and preview pages are up next. gspm: I'm all about the consistent bubbles.

Somebody broke the comment post function on the FPPs, though Locker Room worked fine for me. At least when I tried to add a comment all I got after clicking Preview was a pretty set of boxes, no text and no Publish button.

when I tried to add a comment all I got after clicking Preview was a pretty set of boxes, no text and no Publish button. I have had that transcendental experience myself. Trippy.

I'm getting some interesting errors, too. Looks kind of like this.
