Just 'cause the Leafs are out doesn't mean hockey's over.
Round 3 (Conference Finals) Predictions?

I'll start: TB vs PHI: TB in 6. Simple case of more speed and superior goaltending. SJ vs CAL: SJ in 6. Calgary has one good scoring line and really not much else.

Yes, it does. *sob*

TB vs PHI: TB in 7. I never want the team that beat the Leafs to win again. SJ vs CAL: CAL in 7. I need someone to cheer for, and Calgary gets that honour by default. With late starts and weekend afternoon games, I really don't know if I'm going to be able to watch too many games. That said, I'd make every effort to watch the games if the Leafs were still playing... *sob*

TB v PHI: TB in 5 (I would have said 6, but wanted to be different) SJ v CAL: SJ in 7.

At this point, I'm just rooting for teams to lose. I can't wait for Philly to get knocked out. Here is a clip of Jeremy Roenick singing "Tricky" by Run DMC.

Again, with the leading goal scorers in italics just for the [eff] of it. Eastern Conference Lightning in 6 - TB: St. Louis, P: Roenick Western Conference Sharks in 7 (though, I really want Cal-Gary to win) - SJ: Marleau, C: Iginla

Lightning in 5, Sharks in 6. And ABC/ESPN's ratings for the final won't be as bad as everyone fears without the Wings or whoever in. I too will be pulling for Calgary, but as long as the Flyers die like the Arrogant Pigfuckers From Hell that they are, I'm cool with whoever's left winning. I guess. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go down to the church and light a candle for the CBA talks. Ta.

after going 0-fer in the previous round of picks I'll say.... SJ in 6 Phi in 6 That way I'll either be correct or happy if I am wrong. Or mixed. As long as the Flyers lose and the Flames win then I won't complain.

I like: EASTERN CONFERENCE — Lightning in seven. Esche's "upper-body injury" seemed to me to come on after he got wonked with a slapshot in the Leafs series. And besides, how can Tampa Bay lose with a guy named St. Louis on its roster? WESTERN CONFERENCE — Flames in seven. San Jose has been strong, but Calgary just has that look about it. You know, like Tom Hanks sitting in the crowd on Oscar night.

I'm rooting for the Flames and Flyers -- their fans deserve it. Tampa fans haven't had enough heartbreak yet, and the same could be said for San Jose. Philly's had its share of playoff disappointments in the last ten years. It's a great hockey town, one that can properly appreciate the significance of a Cup win. And needless to say, a Cup win for the Flames would cause the city of Calgary to rock so hard it would open a fissure in the earth and fall in. Still, I'm going with my head. Tampa in 7, San Jose in 7, setting up a fantastic final matchup that nobody will watch.

Here is a clip of Jeremy Roenick singing "Tricky" by Run DMC You know, I can't stand him as an opponent but as a personality he's fantastic for the league. I'd almost root for him to win the Cup, but that would mean that Bobby Clarke would win the Cup (again) and I just can't have that happening.

It's a great hockey town, one that can properly appreciate the significance of a Cup win. Whatever. They'd probably boo it. Either that, or some people will hold it down while others throw punches at it. And maybe some others will chuck a few batteries at it.

The Leafs being out doesn't mean the season's over, but the Wings being out does...*sniff* Anyway... Tampa vs Philly - Esche has GOT to start playing like Esche sometime...Tampa in 6 Calgary vs San Jose - hell, I don't know...back to the coin flips...Calgary in 7

Ha, sammy, I count that JR clip as freaky deaky!

Philly in 7, Sharks in 6 (or 5 if they take the first two at home). But then the Sharks freak everybody and sweep the Philly in the Finals. Oh yeah, and if the Sharks are in, I'll be watching.

haha. San Jose vs Tampa Bay would be the worst possible match-up EVER. Might be good hockey and all, but... c'mon. Calgary in 6 Tampa Bay in 6 (only cause I want to see the Flyers lose) and I'm still pissed off about divisional seeding.

Man, you Leafs fans are a bitter lot. How about some grace after defeat? And a reality check, too: the Leafs' playoff performance of the last 5 years are no better than the Senators'. Time to fire everyone, I guess. Is Pat Quinn first? And now, semi-finals predictions from humble me, who was alone in batting 1.000 for the previous round: Tampa Bay in 7. Calgary in 6. Go Flames Go!

posted by qbert72 at 04:43 PM on May 08, 2004

Quinn's staying. And I'm pretty sure that the Leafs have more playoff wins in the last five years than the Senators. And, well, the Flyers' playoff performance during the last five years hasn't been stellar either, so whatever. Anyway, I don't want the Flyers to lose because they beat the Leafs; I want them to lose because I like seeing Clarke and, well, the Flyers lose in general.

calgary in 6. no frikken clue. the coin says tampa in 7. and my hatred of Bobby (call me Bob) Clarke. After watching the first Flames game, I'm getting serious deja vu from the '93 Canadiens. Decent team, great goalie, unbeatable in OT. San Jose outplayed Calgary, but really got lucky on two goals. The Flames deserved the win. And the refs were atrocious.

WESTERN CONFERENCE — Flames in seven. San Jose has been strong, but Calgary just has that look about it. You know, like Tom Hanks sitting in the crowd on Oscar night. wfrazerjr: It's strange, but I've had that feeling since they clinched a playoff spot. They've got that feeling. Actually watching them once their games started getting broadcast out here only confirmed it. The whole team is stepping up, like, four levels. Philly's strong, Tampa's good, San Jose's very solid, but Calgary's got it. Whatever "it" is. And if I'd found this thread a few days earlier, I would've said Calgary in 7, and Tampa Bay in 7. Don't know if it counts now, although I'm honestly going with what I would have picked—I would probably have to change the Calgary prediction now that they're up 2-0.
