Broken Arrows are locked and loaded. There is no trash-talk/comments section on the league site? That stinks! The other sports had one. How am I going to tell everyone that they suck? Because you folks know it's true. You do suck. The whole lot of ya! A bunch of suckers who suck.

posted by grum@work at 11:17 AM on February 28, 2004

Not only that grum, but trash talk and bad language can get you booted from the Y! leagues. Don't know if it really happens a lot but it is in the ToS. My e-mail is spence_mk1 At yahoo DOT com. Sent you an e-mail as well on it.

posted by pivo at 12:47 PM on February 28, 2004

grum, you have no idea what the word "suck" means. At least not until you see me sucking. That's right, I'm already out of the playoff hunt. However, I'm still gonna be above you in the standings. (how's that for trash talk? am I getting it right?)

posted by NoMich at 12:50 PM on February 28, 2004

grum try this one: You suck in three very specific ways. So Hard, So Bad, and Wicked Bad.

posted by jerseygirl at 12:56 PM on February 28, 2004

Wicked Bad Now if that isn't a classic Boston crack, I don't know what is! Even though I refuse to play this crap game, I do believe the trash talking will make the threads worth reading. Don't let me down, Grum!

posted by billsaysthis at 01:02 PM on February 28, 2004

its from one of my favorite SNL/weekend update skits wherein Derek Jeter hosted (good episode) and cast member and Red Sox fan Seth Myer did a Point/Counterpoint, "Derek Jeter Sucks; No I don't"

posted by jerseygirl at 01:18 PM on February 28, 2004

That SNL skit was VERY funny. Don't let me down, Grum! Don't worry. If things happen like they have the past two seasons in the hockey pool, I'll be on top by a large margin at some point and the trash talking will begin in earnest. But for now, I'll just stick to old stand-by taunts of:

  • "It sounds like a room full of vacuums in here, what with all the sucking from you guys." (basic)
  • "You guys have sucked so much that you've created a vacuum in this room and I can perform Galileo's gravity experiment in much the same way the Apollo 15 astronauts did on the moon." (advanced)

posted by grum@work at 04:02 PM on February 28, 2004

Oh yeah, bring on that ultranerdy, physics-based taunting. I'm lovin' it!

Sorry folks ... even a hermit has to get out of town occasionally (especially when there's a Hold 'Em game within three hours of my house). ;) As far as I can tell, I'm missing only three people — 86, bcb2k2 and mbd1. At least, I think those are the only three I haven't e-mailed yet. We have 13 signed up for the league as of right now. Question: We can still adjust roster size up until the day of the draft. Is everyone happy with what we have? C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL Is that the same number we played with last year?

posted by wfrazerjr at 08:44 AM on March 01, 2004

i thought we had 2 DL's last year...

posted by jerseygirl at 08:59 AM on March 01, 2004

Two would be fine with me. Other thoughts?

posted by wfrazerjr at 01:09 PM on March 01, 2004

two DL's is preferred by moi, and yes, we had it last year, jersey. DJacobs, you aren't even a blip on my radar, you are like the Tigers and I'm like the Yankees, you will never beat me!!!! lol

posted by dusted at 02:16 PM on March 05, 2004

Ok, at this point I believe we have 17 people signed up for the league. We're missing 86, bcb2k2 and mbd1, as best I can tell. I think mbd got the invite, but I still have no e-mails for the other two. If I haven't received something from them by Monday evening, I'm going to report a new thread and ask for the first two others wanting in, unless y'all just want to leave it where it stands?

I'm in, although I can't make the live draft.

posted by mbd1 at 10:52 AM on March 06, 2004

OK, I have no received word from the other two folks, so as of tomorrow morning, I'll be adding thatweirdguy2 (why is that so much fun to type?) and one other person, if he or she turns up. Also, two DL slots. See you Thursday night!

posted by wfrazerjr at 03:47 PM on March 08, 2004

I spent 10 minutes preparing my top 30 list for the pre-draft rankings. Then I realized that if I want to draft only 5 players, I'll still need to rank about 90 of them. Oy. I hope to be there for the live draft, but the wife likes to watch C.S.I. when it's on (I'd rather tape and zip through the commercials).

posted by grum@work at 04:31 PM on March 08, 2004

uhhhh grum, what does CSI have to do with you drafting?

posted by wfrazerjr at 09:17 PM on March 08, 2004

The show starts at the same time when the draft starts. 6:00pm PST = 9:00pm EST = C.S.I. broadcast time = grum@work might have to watch the show with wife@home.

ha ha grum! Thanks to this draft, I got out of a feng shui class with my wife. In my place, one of her friends is going with her.

posted by jasonspaceman at 09:05 AM on March 09, 2004

Can't you just make it up by watch a doubleshot of "Law & Order" next week on TNT? Is that about right on the equivalency chart?

posted by wfrazerjr at 09:39 AM on March 09, 2004

Actually, the equation works out to something like 1 missed episode of CSI = 1 Lifetime moving starring Deirdre Hall and 1 episode of "A Wedding Story" on TLC.

posted by jerseygirl at 09:43 AM on March 09, 2004

Oh, God ... THE HORROR! Wait ... I thought you couldn't have a Lifetime movie without Lynda Carter or Meredith Baxter-Birney?

posted by wfrazerjr at 11:13 AM on March 09, 2004

I just tried to pre-rank, and forget it! It would take a year to get pre-rank the first six rounds. Yahoo needs to work on that part of the interface.

(Remove "get" from the second sentence.)

posted by dusted at 11:24 AM on March 09, 2004

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE watching C.S.I. with my wife (she has a nursing degree, so she can fill me in on info about the injuries/diseases they talk about). It's part of our weekly rituals. If I miss watching the episode with her (or have her watch it on tape with me later), then my penance will probably be having to rent and watch "Love, Actually" on DVD. shudder To make the pre-draft ranking interface better, they need to make the draft list "drag and drop" as well. As it stands now, I have to click "upupupupupupup" to move a player 7 spots if I want to move him after initially dropping him in the list where I wanted him. Another option would be to have an auto-sort method where I can type a number beside a player and it will automatically sort him into the existing list. When I change the number, it auto-resorts again. It should be able to handle two players with the same rank number (because I listed a bunch of players as a "9", and will sub-rank them later). I also wish I could see an example of the AI being used by the auto-draft program. Will it draft 5 OF before any other position if I list them that way? Or will it try to fill every position first before getting backups at other positions? I listed ARod/Nomar/Tejada/Jeter close together last year (because I wanted a premiere SS early on) and it gave me two of them before filling any other position (meaning I had to trade one or have him sit on the bench the whole year).

posted by grum@work at 11:32 AM on March 09, 2004

They've got ARod as a SS? Pfft.

posted by jerseygirl at 11:47 AM on March 09, 2004

Love, Actually wasn't too bad. If I was forced to watch one romantic comedy, that would be the one I'd choose. Besides, I've had a crush on Keira Knightley since seeing her in Bend It Like Beckham, and this is the first time I've seen Hugh Grant in a movie and not wanted to bitch-slap him.
