nice table!

As Daffy used to say: Thaaaaannnnnnnnnk You. (Very gutteral, almost germanic pronunciation. Sounds like "Thongk you.") But you get it right? *runs*

Right on nemo. Thanks. I made three changes today, dumping Witherspoon, Ostertag, and Walter McCarty. Admittedly, I have no idea who the three guys that I picked up are, but they're doing better than the alternatives. I know some people are looking for a guard. I'm going to wait and see how my team does this week, but if I don't improve in a few categories, I'll probably but someone up on the trading block (likely Eric Snow).

Do me a favor guys, tell me which team you manage!

posted by lilnemo at 04:13 PM on November 03, 2003

I'm just now beginning to understand the scoring, 1/3 of my team is injured, and I've got way too many forwards. Other than that, I'm a rip roaring success. My team is Los Perdedores, lilnemo - thanks for the table!

Sounds like you and Ufez should get together on a trade.

Me = Jackass. I think I know who everybody is, except for Sir Galihad, Prime Timers, and Smooth Sam Perkins: Rockport Rassafrass = wfrazerjr fascist bully boys = Ufez Jones The Show = jbou sbortsBabel = smithers vagabonds = catfish TheBigSleep = lilnemo mbd1s Flying Elbows = mbd1 (fancy that) ATL Streetwalkers = trox Spacemen = jasonspaceman 37 Push Ups = corpse Do I still think my team is trash? It was trash after I drafted it, at least from the fifth round onward -- no complaints about the core of Dunc, Billups, Chandler and the awesome Baron Davis, but the rest showed how little homework I did. Five of those stiffs I drafted are now gone, replaced with mostly free agent starters, and now I can proudly say that I have Ron Murray and you don't.

And you can quote me on "Me = Jackass".

OK, I am not convinced: Rashard Lewis has the game of his life, and Tyson Chandler averaging 18 boards a game against Atlanta and Milwaukee? Hell I could probably chase down 4 or 5 if I was playing against those stiffs...... Enjoy your time at the top boys....fear mbd1.... btw, Prime Timers is a friend of mine who I'm not sure if he signed up for SpoFi ... am I in trouble?

I can't believe Brand went down after the opening night he had!!!! And then I was away from a computer for 5 days to find out Brand had been scoring a bunch of zeroes for me....come on, hold the fort, ummmmm Antonio Davis??

posted by smithers at 10:29 PM on November 03, 2003

Not only Brand - Tim Duncan injured his ankle in Memphis tonight. Are there more big stars injured this year, or am I just more aware of them?

posted by dusted at 11:26 PM on November 03, 2003

There does seem to be a lot of injured stars this year, already. The injury train hasn't hit Dallas yet (knock on wood-like desk) but I'm sure it will. Duncan's injury should be minor. I doubt he'll play tonight against the Heat (the Spurs shouldn't need him) but I would be surprised if he was still out Sat against the Mavs. I really need Ray Allen to come back in my other fantasy league. Anyone else doing more than one? It's a bit confusing.

OK....... Since taupe gave us a preseason Power Ranking, I realized that a ranking is no good unless you have the corny commentary that goes alongside it. And given the affinity in here recently for haiku, I decided to present, based on today's rankings (ideally viewed alongside Nemo's chart.........and NO, this will not be a weekly thing.....I just needed to f*ck the dog a bit today): Rashard, O Rashard Off your ass in the Orient Rising Sun soon sets Brand busts out monster game to earn bucks back; alas Sterling's bank broken Many bricks snared by Bulls beanpole; nice surprise for Me = Jackass Many elbows thrown by mbd1: he leads league in rebounds and blocks Big Dog and Answer need two racks of balls to play Spacemen loves Sixers Attitudes mean zip in SpoFi fantasy hoops Fascists seize sixth place Loss of Ray Allen Hurts league commish early on Boys: Fight the Power!! jbou has nice guards; would someone give him a post? Not me ... HA HA HA....!!!!!! Rockport Rassafrass are always in contention if Dirk Diggler plays Dusty's Perdedores roster full of --empty-- spots Am I botching rules? New Vinsanity As Baker wakes for BigSleep Sports Guy eats own foot Corpse's team needs boards. More push ups advice looking slick right about now Jalen is a hog Maybe Deion could play guard? 'Melo will be nice Note Sir Galihad: If Y! ranks Marion first, next time just say no Trox has team drafted By SpoFi's soccer elite? Streetwalkers indeed....

posted by smithers at 01:02 PM on November 04, 2003

That was great, smithers! Attitudes mean zip in SpoFi fantasy hoops Fascists seize sixth place The revolution will not be haiku-ized. Besides, it takes time. And yes, welcome, Chuck. Now get the hell out of first place.

No, the women are hot and the beer is cold. I ain't coming down for nothing. Besides, I've got Jason Richardson who's still not played a game yet to add to my points and 3-pointer totals.

Rockport Rassafrass are always in contention if Dirk Diggler plays I must point out that simply by my association with the Rassafrass, Dirk Diggler is always in the muthagrabbin' hizzouse. Thank you.

It's all fun and games until a Ben Wallace for Gordon Giricek trade is proposed... And for the hell of it: Anyone been to any games yet this year? I went to the Mavs/Heat game on Monday night. It wasn't the prettiest, but much fun was had.

posted by Ufez Jones at 02:10 PM on November 05, 2003

I've never been to an NBA game in my life. Is anyone else a basketball virgin? I've been to tons of MLB games, and I've been in with the crazies at a few Raiders games (and I'm mostly a Niners fan), but never a b-ball game.

posted by dusted at 03:05 PM on November 05, 2003

I've never been to an NBA game. Tickets are too expensive.

posted by corpse at 03:09 PM on November 05, 2003

Fortunately the game I went to on Monday was free. They were pretty good seats (first tier). When I pay on my own though, I sit up at the top in the corner. $30 seats aren't too bad if the game is good. I'm hoping to see the Mavs/Rockets game next Thursday.

I have seen a few games over the years, but the most interesting was when I was young and saw a Detroit-Denver game with both teams in the 130s....3 Nuggets (including Fat Lever!!) had 30 and I think Isiah had 40 for the Pistons. When I tried to look up this game though, I came across this one between the same two teams: In the highest scoring game ever in NBA history between the Pistons and Nuggets, four players scored 40 or more points - Alex English, Kiki Vandeweghe, John Long, and Isiah Thomas. On December 13, 1983, the Nuggets fell to the Pistons in triple-overtime 186-184. Both teams combined to shot 57% from the field. Kiki led all scorers with 51. Thomas and English each had 47, and Long added 41. Scoring, where art thou today??

I saw a couple of Knicks games in the mid-70s. You couldn't pay me to go see the Gunshot Wounds (my local team, I guess) now, especially not in Oakland at night. LOL

I just picked up Antonio McDyess. I drafted half a hospital ward anyway, so I might as well keep going.

posted by dusted at 05:45 PM on November 06, 2003

I've got a question about the scoring: are the rotisserie categories open all season? In other words, if I score, say... 500 3-pointers in the last week, will I get the points for that category for the entire season, or just for that week? Thanks.

posted by dusted at 10:37 AM on November 10, 2003

dusted... Points don't accumulate on a week-by-week basis. It's a dynamic scoring system so whoever leads in three pointers at the end of the season gets 15 points for that category. You don't get 15 points for each week you lead, so you have to maintain those leads for a period of time.
