I have a confession to make. I posted this on the motherfilter, and got righteously told off. No-one told me we weren't allowed to advertise. Anyway, if I was wrong I want to know: what's the policy?

SportsFilter has been mentioned at least a dozen times there, so that isn't much of an issue to me. However, I'd hate to see "take it to SportsFilter" adopted as part of MetaFilter's netiquette. Let the mother ship talk sports if it wants to.

Walrus, I promised myself I would never use the phrase "MeFi police", so I won't - but I guess I just did. I bet we've all been reprimanded from time to time on MeFi, so don't worry about it. I was probably too drunk with happiness (and beer) to notice the mention on the superbowl thread (yeah Boston!), so I owe you for the nod to this site. I know also that 86 was tipped off to this site by your comment, and I'm sure other new members were as well. I guess everyone should avoid direct plugs in the future on MeFi, but still, thanks.

take it to SportsFilter Far from my intention: misguided at worst ...

Actually, it was a stupid post and I'd love to delete it, but I don't want to send the message that "take it to sportsfilter" is the right one, because I don't think it is. I'm trying to figure out a way to openly promote sportsfilter on metafilter as an additional community, and not a sub-section or a place where sports news must go from now on. It's touchy, and I hope people don't post things like "this would be good for sportsfilter too" because it just leads to the unwanted conclusion (that sports don't belong on metafilter). If you would like a sportsmined person at metafilter to know about this site, email them instead.

Ok Matt, point taken. It is difficult, and I was riding a fence.
