Huddersfield Town have been promoted to the Premier League for the first time by beating Reading 4-3 on penalties at Wembley: The most valuable game in sport, the Terriers will earn an estimated $200M after defeating Reading for the third Championship promotion spot. Managed by (German-)American David Wagner, the underdogs contained Reading's attack and won in penalties on the goaltending of Liverpool FC loanee Danny Ward. A look back at how they got here. Legendary Sportswriter Frank Deford Dies: Frank Deford died Sunday in his Key West, Florida, home at age 78. He wrote for Sports Illustrated from 1962 to 2017 and in the first two decades at that job defined the word "sportswriter" for many of our younger selves. Some of us also recall him for The National, a glorious, short-lived attempt at a national newspaper of sport. He also contributed to Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on HBO and NPR. In recent years he became known for his hatred of soccer, a lamentable old-man crankypants posture unworthy of his reputation.

England Adds Post-Match Bans for Diving: Next season, the Football Association in the U.K. will put an ex-manager, ex-player and ex-referee in separate rooms to watch incidents where a player dives. If they all agree the player tricked a match official, the player gets a two-game ban and the red or yellow card given out for the incident is rescinded. The change applies at all levels. In other football news, sigh.
