Teixeira traded to Atlanta for four prospects. Appears to help Atlanta this year and next before Tex makes his play for big bucks. The Rangers just keep trying to tread water.

Boston Herald Should Name Its SpyGate Source The newspaper and reporter John Tomase refuse to identify the unnamed source who burned them. Why the hell not?

With about half of team scheduled to become free agents and probable desire to get rid of several other players (or maybe they just want out), this team might have only three or four returning players next year.
Kidd to Dallas: Take Two In a revised deal that includes the semi-retired Keith Van Horn, Jason Kidd appears to be heading to the Dallas Mavericks after all. Does Kidd give them enough to win it all?
posted to Basketball at 1:45 AM CDT
Question: Mavs have 15 players on roster. Signing Van Horn for trade would put them over max. Do they have to cut someone to sign and trade Van Horn, or is there some exception that allows them to sign and trade without reducing roster?
As to your question, Kidd can still play, so if he can mesh with other players and get them the ball, then they can win it all? However, if the Mavs are going to continue to try to fill the basket from the outside, then Kidd will not matter. They need an inside game, which is lacking and which it is questionable that Kidd can provide.
Leitch: Why Mark Cuban Won't Get the Cubs "The guy has no chance. ... Mark Cuban will never own the Cubs, no matter how much money he waves in front of the Tribune Corp." -- Deadspin's Will Leitch

Baseball will probably never let an owner like Cuban in, because baseball is run by idiots. Hiding their heads in the sand and trying to do what they have always done because of the "integrity" of the game has made baseball pretty much a laughingstock and dropped it from first to third of the major four sports.

Two questions:
1. With a Feb. 22 NBA trade deadline, will these even be the same teams when they meet in March?
2. Will the bookies give a do-over as well if the results change?
On-Field Tryout Earns Stewart WVU Head Spot Bill Stewart's job as interim head coach during the Mountaineer's 42-28 dismantling of Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl thrusts him to the full-time gig as the new head man to replace Rich Rodriguez.

Glad that Stewart got the job. He and his team definitely showed more emotion, interest and ability than OU last night.
But I think the real story is that Stoopes (the so-called genius of college football) got walloped again in a bowl. This time by a coach bearing the "interim" title at kickoff. Bummer Sooner.
Mitchell report is Out 50 to 80 names to be released. Clemens, Pettitte, Tejada to name a few.

I think this report might open up the Hall of Fame for a lot of players that would otherwise be shunned. Goes to show that it was not isolated situations, but widespread. If they let some in who are fingered, how do they keep the others out. And I mean those deserving of the Hall of Fame based strictly on stats, etc.
I find it interesting that with Clemens' name so prominent that some of the TV spinners are saying they believe his denial because there is no proof, but they have no problem slamming other athletes who have never tested positive.
A Rod breaks another record: Alex Rodriguez set another record for baseball's highest contract, finalizing his $275 million, 10-year agreement with the New York Yankees on Thursday.

Arod = 10 more years with Yankees
Yankees = 10 more years without a World Series
ARod wins AL MVP award, but not unanimously.
ARod got 26 of the 28 first place votes. The other two first place votes went to Magglio Ordonez of the Detroit Tigers. The voters who chose Ordonez over ARod? Writers from the Detroit News and Oakland Press (Pontiac, Michigan).
*cough*

Arod accounted for only 25.3 percent of his team's runs. Mags accounted for 25.7 percent of his team's runs. Hey, it's the best I can come up with.

I think it interesting that Michael Young is rated No. 1 in the shortstop, third baseman, and second baseman group when The Fielding Bible a couple of years ago called him the worst shortstop in the league.
Martina Hingis reveals she tested positive for cocaine at Wimbledon, announces retirement immediately thereafter. Is there any possible reason why she'd retire immediately after this announcement hit the news? I'm just trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, I guess... whether or not it's warranted at this point.

Funniest quote that I have heard this century.
Red Sox win World Series Second title in four years for the Nation.

Unless they were a Red Sox fan or a Rockies fan, or vehemently anti-Red Sox or anti-Rockies, or a diehard baseball fan (if there are any left), did anyone really watch the Series this year or care about it? I saw bits and pieces while flipping through channels or if there was nothing else on to catch my interest. But overall, a big yawner. Then again, perhaps I just tuned it all out in game two when it went from Schilling to shillling.
A-Rod Opts Out of Contract He has taken off th pinstripes. I think he did this now to divorce himself from the managerial decision coming tomorrow. I also think that he knows something about Posada, Rivera, and Pettitte that others don't. Where's he going: nobody knows.

You have to marvel at the arrogance of the Yankee management:
"If you don’t understand the magnitude of being a Yankee"
"If we’re going to make you rich and we’re going to give you the privilege of being a Yankee"
Replace Yankee with Dallas Cowboy and you'll understand how Jerry Jones managed to drive his football team into the ground for 10 years.
ARod is a perenial loser, any team that signs him is guaranteed never to win any important games.
When a team buys ARod, I think it will be looking at winning as secondary. It will really be buying the publicity and the homerun chase over the next several years.

A-Rod has two testicles.
Whose?

I still think AfROD might end up back with the Yankees. One of the Steinbrenners said the Yankees would not re-sign him or negotiate with him. His quote was: "Not if it's made official." So they might negotiate with him until it is made "official."
"while I had multiple sources relating similar allegations"
As a former newspaper reporter, I can tell you that this is not an apology. Tomase is saying that he believes that it is true, that multiple people told him this though he relied on one more than the others. He believes it; he just can't prove it. BS. He bought off on a lie and is trying to cover his own tracks. If his "source" cannot be trusted, then I guess his "multiple sources" cannot be trusted. Or maybe, it's just Tomase that cannot be trusted.
