Packer out, Kellogg in as CBS lead announcer Billy Packer is out after 27 years as the lead college basketball analyst for CBS, making way for Clark Kellogg. "Like Billy Packer, Al McGuire or any of the most highly regarded broadcasters, Clark is an original voice with his own style and perspective." Will Kellogg's style be an upgrade over Packer's? Is this a good move for CBS?

An Instant Classic "A rivalry between the league's two most storied franchises -- with some of the game's biggest names and biggest moments -- now has its biggest rally. No team had ever overcome more than a 15-point deficit after the first quarter, and Elias Sports Bureau said it was the biggest comeback in the finals since 1971. One thing's for sure, it will forever be remembered in the annals of Celtics-Lakers lore."

Indiana set to hire Crean as hoops coach Indiana University will hire Marquette's Tom Crean as its basketball coach and is expected to introduce him at a news conference Wednesday. The hiring comes near the end of a tumultuous six-week period in which former Hoosiers coach Kelvin Sampson resigned amid an NCAA scandal, interim coach Dan Dakich replaced him and then lost four of seven games. Is Indiana on the road to recovery?

I for one think this is a great move for CBS. Packer has never been a favorite of mine, and his pretty clear homerism for Memphis in last year's title game was bothersome for me.

On the other hand, i like Kellogg's calm and smooth delivery. He may not always have the most interesting content, but his tone conveys a level head and class. I'm excited for this move.

Jagr's Bummed. The New York Rangers decide to move on with Markus Naslund, leaving Jaromir Jagr behind. Jagr is reportedly on his way to Russia.

This makes me really bummed as well. I 1st got into hockey as Jagr was turning into a superstar (and a bit of a prima donna) at Pittsburgh. When he left, my interest in hockey did as well.

I was hoping that he would return to Pittsburgh, and i would start following them again. I need a reason more than Sid, b/c i would feel like such a bandwagon fan. It looks like i don't have much of a choice now. Either be a bandwagon fan, or don't re-engage the sport again for a while.

Video: Diamondbacks Catcher Chris Snyder Fractures Left Testicle Although the injury report just says that Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder is on the 15-day DL with a groin injury, the team revealed that he suffered a "left testicular fracture" Monday when hit by a foul ball. "Suspended in the scrotum, a skin pouch below the penis, each testicle is surrounded by the tunica albuginea, a tough, fibrous covering that often takes the hit of trauma to the gland," according to UrologyHealth.Org. "Like the shell of an egg, it can be easily 'fractured' or shattered when confronted by a blunt or violent force." See the video.

Are you ready for some football?....Sit Down! The Kansas City Chiefs have a "Fan Code of Conduct," which is essentially a list of rules that fans have to follow when they're attending a game at Arrowhead.

posted to Football at 7:50 PM CDT

Well, given the Chiefs prospects this year, they may not have to worry about too many people standing up, unless it is to throw something at Carl Peterson in the press box (which i do not advocate).

In all seriousness, this is a bad pr move by the Chiefs. They have some of the best fans (if volume is a major criteria) in the NFL. Given the fact that they don't have much to cheer about lately anyway, telling the rabid, loyal fans to sit down will only increase the frustration at this team's recent ineptitude.

There will be a backlash to this, and my guess is that by game 6 or so the policy will just disappear.

So if the rules are enforced correctly, I think it's a great idea to bring families back to football.

BoKnows,

You are probably right on this, but the problem is that the world has a lot of jerks in it, who collectively transcend age, socio-economic status, race, etc etc. To me it is these people who inevitably abuse or ignore the rules to the point where KC's PR people would have been better served to not have messed with this in the 1st place.

I agree that it is a good idea in theory; but when you get a ton of people at a sporting event, mix in some neurotic love/hate for one of the teams and alcohol, then you have a recipe for disaster (and lawsuits).

Comment icon posted at 1:10 AM CDT on July 2

So what should they do? Rely on 50,000+ jerks to fill the seats every Sunday?

Yeah, neither alternative seems that appealing. Nevertheless, the old way equaled a sold-out arrowhead stadium for decades. This move has the potential to ruin that, especially if discrimination claims come up. While i understand the ethical quandry, it seems like this could harm the team fiscally. There is very little to gain (the stadium is already full, little pr issues), and much to lose (discrimination claims, pr disaster, loss of long-time season ticket holders, etc).

I hate to be so pragmatic about this issue, but since there is no magic bullet (jerks will always exist), i don't see what they gain from changing. Does becoming more family-friendly really help them that much? If so, how? I guess if someone can give me good answers to those questions, i could be converted.

Top of the World! Garnett has since left his losing ways behind and helped engineer the biggest turnaround in NBA history, turning the Celtics from a laughingstock to a champion. Tuesday night, it became clear that—just like losing did—winning has made Kevin Garnett completely insane.

Wow, Garnett went Joe Namath.

Great finish, but i have to wonder: playing on that knee, how much has he sacrificed long term to win this major? I know he takes great care of himself, and it was a minor surgery, but part of me wonders if it doesn't become a persistent problem for him after playing on it this week. The torque put on his kneee after every shot could keep this from ever going away completely.

Not trying to be a downer, but i wonder if his competitiveness could hurt him passing jack.

Great comeback. The post game interviews were interesting. My 2 favorite moments:

1. Kobe looking like he was going to kill someone (Gasol?) after the game.
2. Phil Jackson admitting that Doc Rivers outcoached him.

A group of new owners who live by the words of Vince Lombardi, "first we will be best, then we will be first".

Yeah; and the ownership groups talk to each other and reinforce that ethos.

And, amazingly enough, it seems like these franchises are turning a good profit. It pains me to see teams that want to make money so badly, but think they can do so by running it like walmart (i'm looking at you Royals), when if you can create a culture of winning, you'll bank.

Put out the best product and you'll make money; what a concept!

Crooked ref claims NBA fixes games Tim Donaghy, ex-ref convicted of betting on games, claims referees pressured to call fouls by league and sometimes do so on their own. NBA denies it.

I understand how that many want more concrete evidence, and even though the source has made some poor choices (although the idea that once you lie in one area of life your credibility is shot in every area of life forever is so absurd to me i don't know how most believe it), why is it that when polled, the vast majority of sports watchers said that the nba had the most "suspicious" officiating of any pro league? It seems like there is a basic intuition that nearly everyone has about this, and it makes me think that at the very least Stern needs to do better than using red herring attacks in response to these new allegations (ie referring to him as a felon and a criminal repeatedly in his latest response).

As it is, Griffey did get injured, so while his place in the HOF is secure, he won't be in the discussion of "greatest ever".

Grum,

Depending on how the legal stuff with Bonds plays out, then Griffey could well be in the discussion of greatest ever. It seems that if the conclusion that Bonds juiced is reached then i think Griffey is back in the conversation, especially if we allow injuries to be factored in.

In the end, it's an argument that really can't be won definitively, but it sure is fun.

Comment icon posted at 2:04 PM CDT on June 10

Longevity and durability have to be taken into account.

Greatness has nothing to longevity or durability.

Hence my point about why these arguments are ultimately unwinnable, but still fun.
