I am 50 years old. I have been a baseball fan as long as I can remember(Cubs,...ya that's right Cubs). Never have I said out loud, or to myself for that matter, that this game is to slow. This is baseball. No clock, no sudden death, no set time limit, no set innings. It's baseball. In this day and age of instant gratification, I enjoy the slow pace. I can go from the car to my TV and not miss much.Your remote control is right there by your Barko Lounger. Turn it off if it bores you. And feel free to never turn baseball on again. Anything to make the game more accurate is fine with me. And for the record, I despise officials in any sport who suck. Baseball has their share of fat old men who can't, or don't run down the line to see what is sometimes obvious. The problem with extended replay(trapped balls and fair or foul), is what do you do with the base runners.
Crooked ref claims NBA fixes games Tim Donaghy, ex-ref convicted of betting on games, claims referees pressured to call fouls by league and sometimes do so on their own. NBA denies it.

I have a question... Do Basketball refs have other jobs like Football Refs do? I don't think they do. Baseball Umpires only umpire. AS many bad calls as there is in Football, I think it is still heads above the others in accuracy. The strike zone is completely non existent, and the rules in Basketball are a joke. I always thought fouls are called to keep the game from getting out of hand. How often do you hear during any sport playoff or finals that the Refs are "letting them play".

CBC fumbles negotiations on Hockey Night theme A lowball offer by the CBC to buy the Hockey Night in Canada theme song from its composer prompted the temporary collapse of year-long negotiations and a national furor Thursday over the future of the iconic anthem, the man in charge of its copyright says. For many Canadians, the stirring “dunt-da-DUNT-da-dunt” that has opened each broadcast of Hockey Night since 1968 is pure Canadiana — as deeply woven into the national fabric as Tim Hortons and the great game itself.

Officials in all sports miss calls. I would say baseball has the best % rate of good calls while basketball is the worse. Basketball officials just don't care about the rules, and the veterens get more calls their way. Announcers even admit to the rookie factor, which I think baseball officials could care less about.
Fukudome doesn't find racist T-shirts in Wrigleyville funny A Fukudome T-shirt with a racist image is the hottest-selling item at a souvenir stand that sells unlicensed Cubs-related merchandise across Addison Street from the ballpark.......... Jose Canseco Has 'Stuff' on A-Rod Throughout this whole somewhat tainted steroids era, Alex Rodriguez's name has never really been slung through the mud. He obviously has a lot of home runs for his age, but he's never hit an exorbitant amount of them in one season. The general perception is A-Rod is just really, really good at what he does.

If Canseco hated A-rod so badly, why would he introduce him to anyone? Friend or foe? I hate your guts, but here's my steroid guy. Doesn't make sense. If this was done before he hated A-Rod, then the argument would be....Can I trust my career to someone I don't know very well? And then introduce him to my steroid guy? I think I would want to be extremly careful of whom I told I was doing roids. As we have found out, as rampant as it is, it is still very secretive.

However, as a DH, he would bat, go to the clubhouse read the paper, watch cartoons (ricochett rabbit perhaps), snack on gogurt or puddin pops, play some poker or hearts with the guy locked in the equipment room, and wait until it's his turn to bat. And then do it all over again. I can't see him becoming a part of any ones TEAM.

Brett was anything but boring.
The Bears need a QB coach, so when you're ready, Go work for them. Stay in the game that you love, and that loves you.

Bonds power doesn't seem to be diminishing. He can still hit a broken bat homer. But next year he will be a year older, and his bat speed has to start fading at some point. Yes, he will work, but at what point do you consider him in a slump? 0/ 10? 0/20? No Hrs in 30 AB's? That's when you will see fans in KC or Texas stop going to games.
Glad to hear Texas loved Sammy. So did many, many Cub fans. To bad the boo birds in the bleachers wouldn't let it go.
Whoever gets Bonds will realize booing has a domino effect.
But what the hell, Bonds is used to it, and even seems to thrive with it.
Is ESPN Killing the National Hockey League by Influencing Public Attitudes? By creating and reinforcing an expectation of failure regarding the NHL, ESPN is shaping public perception and contributing to the “death” of the NHL in the United States.
posted to Hockey at 3:15 PM CDT
I disagree with the premise that the NHL must be on an ESPN network to succeed. The NFL and NBA have their own networks and soccer has several channels. If the Vs. Network ends up being the first step towards a standalone NHL Network, or a hockey-only channel, I think it will end up helping the league.
I hope it's a dish network channel, cause I'm tired of paying for worthless programming. And IMO hockey is just such programming. To watch atheletes be allowed to kick the crap out of each other is despicable. And to say Hockey is the Fourth Sport? I'd say 6th or 7th at best. Ahead of women's Figure Skating, and behind Youth Soccer. I predict in 10 -15 years, there will be no more Pro Hockey in the U.S., because the fan base just don't pay the bills.

It is criminal the way we treat our retired workers in this country, and the pension system is not always fair, HOWEVER, Athelets today make more money in a year than most people make in a lifetime. There is education available to them for the sole purpose to prepare them for the life after Pro Sports. And still, at an alarming rate, we see athletes with little or no money left for the future. Cars, homes, land, toys, and bling will take away their nest egg. After the estate sales to pay back taxes, they are left with nothing or still in debt. And they are only in their 30's or 40's. Many have a college degree, but no education. Obviously this does not apply to all athletes, but you get my drift. I have a back injury from a job I had 20 years ago. Do you suppose they will help me now? I wish I had a portion of their money to save, invest,or even bury in the back yard.

The New York-Penn League (short-season, Single A) affiliate of the Washington Nationals held a contest this past summer to rename the team. So if Ricky tests positive for drugs, he loses his paycheck, gets fines and has to sit out. But even if he gets suspended permanantly, as long as he was WILLING to play, and TRYING to play, will he have to return the signing bonus? Other than retiring, what else allows a team to pull the signing bonus?
ahem.... Home Run King? I suppose your talking of Bonds, right?Well check this stat out.
Barry Bonds has participated in 6 Home Run Derbys since 1992. 15 years and 6 Home Run Derbys.
Of the Derbys, his record is this:
1992-8th out of 8 (2 H.R.)
1993-T-3 of 8 (5 H.R.)
1996-1st out of 10 (7 H.R.) He won against McGwire(go figure)
2001-4th out of 8 10 H.R)
2002-7th out of 8 (2 H.R.)
2004-4th out of 8 (11 H.R)
Why do you think he could actively participate this year? Cause he says he's healthy?
Griffey Jr. hit from 1990-2000 He won 3 times and came in second 3 times, and as far as I know, nobody ever accused him of juicing. Just let Barry rest in peace (pieces)
