Sports Bio

I follow the teams from Dallas-Fort Worth because I grew up with them, but I've adopted the Jacksonville Jaguars, the only pro team my new hometown is ever likely to get. The most memorable sporting event I attended live was game 6 of the NBA Western Conference finals in 1988 at Reunion Arena -- Mavericks vs. Lakers -- when Mark Aguirre and his prodigious caboose received half the game MVP award, and the 17,007 fans in attendance received the other half.

Tim Tebow Leads Florida to BCS Title Over Oklahoma: In an MVP performance in which he accounted for 340 of Florida's 480 total yards, including a game-clinching jump pass touchdown in the fourth quarter and 109 yards rushing, quarterback Tim Tebow led the Florida Gators to a 24-14 win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the BCS Championship game. "He's one of those guys that you give him your best shot, he's going to get back up," said Sooners safety Nic Harris.

Playing Golf May Damage Your Hearing: The sound made by striking thin-faced titanium clubs from manufacturers such as King Cobra, Callaway, Mizuno and Nike can damage your hearing, according to a new study by ear, nose and throat doctors. "Our results show that thin-faced titanium drivers may produce sufficient sound to induce temporary or even permanent cochlear damage in susceptible individuals," said Dr Malcom Buchanan, the lead researcher. The loudest club was the Ping G10, which you can hear in a YouTube video.

When Punters and Kickers Attack: Some NFL kickers and punters are starting to make tackles, Judy Battista of the New York Times reports in a story with a lot of great anecdotes. "Before a preseason game against the Chiefs in the 1970s, the returner George Atkinson of the Raiders joked with Kansas City kicker Jan Stenerud ... that he was not a real player because he never tackled anybody. Stenerud tackled Atkinson twice during that game. Stenerud said an angry John Madden, the Raiders' coach at the time, was said to have asked this about Atkinson, 'How could you get tackled twice by a Norwegian skier?'"

Tim Tebow Leads Florida to BCS Title Over Oklahoma

It's not easy to give Tebow more hype than he deserves. He's a great player, a great leader and thus far has lived up to his amazing rep off the field.

But Fox's announcers managed it. I cringed when I heard that quote, Gary. I live in the county where Tebow played high school ball, and I've been hearing about him long before he was signed by Florida. I thought that was the creepiest broadcast tongue bath since Greg Gumbel and Phil Simms were apologists for Ray Lewis during Super Bowl XXXV.

Tim Tebow Leads Florida to BCS Title Over Oklahoma

Did anyone else see Nic Harris of the Sooners trash-talking during and after the opening coin toss? He's the player who was the target of Tebow's gator-chomp in the late fourth quarter, though they hugged it out after the game ended. Apparently he was jawing at Tebow during the pregame.

Thanks for all the testing.

Will you be playing with the URI structure eventually?

Yup. All links should end up on the correct page even with old URIs. Are you searching for Yerfatma's interview?

Glad you like it. I copped the live preview gimcrackery from Matt Haughey.

Another old/new feature that should be working properly now is subscriber columns. You can reading columns and submit a column.
