Sports Bio

Likeable stuff

All things SEC
-Alabama tops the list

NASCAR
With the retirement of Rusty Wallace I have yet to connect with a new favorite driver.
I have been working races at Talladega Super Speedway many years now, some of the more memoral moments I've seen:
>1987, Bill Elliott's 212.809 qualifying speed record.
>Mark Martin winning the 1997 Aarons 500 in a caution
free race, setting the record for the highest average
speed in a NASCAR race of 188.354 mph
>Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s 4 in a row at the track from the fall
of 2001 to spring 2003. (not one of my favorite
drivers)
> TSS also holds the record for lead changes with 75 in
1984

NFL (after college football season ends)
-Raiders, Saints, Chargers
Never been to a game.

MLB
-Cubs (gotta love the ivy in the outfield)
I used to drive over to Atlanta to catch a Braves game now
and then back when you could walk up and get $2 seats in
the outfield.

Soccer
-Columbus, Liverpool. Took the family to see the USA vs
Argentina match in Birmingham durring the 1996 Olympic
games.

Coaching
I have a dagree in Recreation Administration. Which means basicly, I get payed to play games all day.
Been coaching soccer since 1988 (played from 1977-1986).
Also coached baseball for 5 years.

(not so) Likeable stuff

-Tennesse Voluteer football (if I never here rockytop again it
will be too soon).
-Mississippi State fans (add cowbells to above comment).

Pirates sign 2 Indian pitchers — and, no, not from Cleveland

These 2 fine young men were treated to one of USC's home football games. After the game in an interview one of them said he was glad they had won a baseball contest because there was no way they could survive those hits. True story from the local paper.

Arguing Politics During My Vasectomy

Now this brings back more than a few um...well..embareassing memories. My vasectomy was done by a female doctor with 2 female nurses present. Not to come across as sexist but all three were quite attractive (and the whole "nurses in uniform" porn movie thing comes to mind). At least they were not offended and the good doctor had no problem "snipping".

OK yea WAY to much information.

Still the best decision I ever made.

Memo to the NFL: London doesn’t care!

The first link reminded me of the sour grapes we get here in the States at times in articles about *soccer*. And I loved the quote about the $15M steriod using druged up running backs. As well as the one mentioned by 86.

The second link has a nice bit of information about the game itself and is actually well written(unlike as Mr. B pointed out the poor skills of the writer of the rant).

The ThisIsLondon.co.uk link has apparently moved on to other topics, its ashame too because the quotes from Goodell were interesting.

MLB Post-Season Pick 'Em, World Series Edition

Tampa Bay(post exorcism)Rays in 5 Games.

Jason Bartlett walks away with the MVP.

Series turns into a dull pitchers duel. Strikeouts happen more often than hits or runs.

But still one lucky batter will hit 0.546.

Cowboys Acquire Roy Williams in Trade with Lions

...when you have someone basically insunating that a teams season is all but over with only 6 games played (I think the sky is falling on the cowpokes), IMHO, that's pretty ludicrous.

Where did I go wrong here? If you feel I have insulted your intellect in some way BornIcon I truly apologize for the misunderstanding. The chicken little comment was in reply to, "...If they loose, then the sky is falling." comment posted by Mickster.

Maybe it was my use of the term "cowpokes" if so, the Dallas Morning News newspaper is where I first came across the word on it's sports pages in the early '90's.

Apparently, Folkways feels some way about the 'Boys and entire organization since he admitted that not only is he not a fan of the Dallas Cowboys but also does not like Jerry Jones '....

Well no I don't have anything against the "entire organization", in fact I have the utmost respect for the team's past success as well as most of the guys that have and are playing for the Cowboy's. I wish them no i'll will, they just arn't my team is all. My dislike is of Jerry Jones has nothing to do with football or the team. It stems from past business dealings in Arkansas that have nothing to do with this conversation.

A little overly dramamtic there, don'tcha think Folkways?

I don't know about being "overly dramatic" but if I come across that way I can live with it.

You're very first sentence made everything else that you said pretty much obsolete since it showed what side of the fence that you stand.

If this is fact then wouldn't it also apply to your comments since you are a cowboys fan? Seeing what side of the fence you stand an all. Not at all meant to be a snide comment, I just don't see how being a fan/not a fan affects (effects? I never can remember which is what) the facts.

I'm not a fan of the 'Boys, even though I lived in the Metroplex a few years I could not bring myself to like that Landry guy.

I think the sky is falling on the cowpokes. If they do not at least reach the super bowl, this season will be a considered a failure considering all JJ has done to build his little empire in Dallas. (OK so I do not really like him either).
