132nd Run for the Roses America's most prestigious horse race, the Kentucky Derby goes this afternoon. Brother Derek is the best look here, he has been a phenom in California and thrashed the field in the Santa Anita Derby. But he gets a terrible barrier draw (18 post) and of course, favorites haven't won the Derby in decades. So back some roughies like Showing Up (20-1) and Sweetnorthernsaint with Kent Desormeaux riding. Fill out your boxes and wheels: Barbaro goes at short odds (4-1) with hot rider Edgar Prado up. Mike Smith won last year on Giacomo with one of the best Derby rides seen in years -- he saddles up today on Giacomo's brother Flashy Bull (50-1) from the extreme outside gate post.

Hear My Song, Fear My Fastball What's the best entrance music for a pitcher coming out of the bullpen? We've got the great sandman battle, red sox star reliever Papelbon coming out to Bodies, though he's not sure of the lyrics, and while most choose the hard rock of groups such as AC/DC, John Smoltz once came out to ABBA's "Dancing Queen." It has all the feeling of a theme park.

Are you ready for some football? DJ Gallo: On Thursday, the NFL released its schedule for the 2006 season. And although it's pointless to try to analyze it and weigh strength of schedules and such when the draft is still to be held and September is still five months away, pointlessness never stopped me from writing before. Take a look at some of the key games from each week of the 2006 NFL schedule.

...we texans fans, however, will have to leave church early every sunday (praying for a decent season) since 15 of the 16 games start at noon. Those noon starts are a killer. Although, its not leaving church early that gets me...its popping the tab on your first cold beer at the 9 A.M. tailgate party that gets tricky. Even trickier will be sitting through an entire Texans game if they do not improve their offensive line.
Longest touchdown in NFL history Nathan Vasher returned a missed field goal 108 yards for a touchdown, the longest ever.

barbaro looks like he can run all day. will be interesting to see who draws into the preakness, as he appears to be more vulnerable short than long. Barbaro in the Derbyimpressive! I think Brother Derek will get him in the Preakness Stakes (1 & 3/16's). Circumstances (wide trip) kept Brother Derek from running his best race in the Kentucky Derby (1 & ). All said...Barbaro is a great horse. I do agree that the Belmont Stakes (longest race @ 1 & ) ) may fit Barbaro well.
