Holyfield, in a shocker.... loses? SI.com's Graham scored the fight at 118-110 to Holyfield, but the judges speak otherwise, giving the win to Valuev by majority decision.

Small Bug Only issue I've noticed recently. In the member pages (my own is the link cited), the old menu appears in the upper right corner, as it was before the remodel. And assumably due to said remodel, all the links but "home", "about", and "locker room" are dead. If this has been hit before, my apologies. And if this is in process, again the apologies. Just thought I'd bring it to light.

Questionable Call Near the end of the Broncos-Chargers game today, there was a very curious call on the fumble/incompletion by Jay Cutler near the end of the game. The play was clearly a fumble by every replay, but because referee Ed Hochuli had blown the play dead, the ball returned to the Broncos at the spot of the fumble instead of going to the Chargers by way of recovering the fumble. The Broncoes went on to score a touchdown, a 2-point conversion, and win the game 39-38.

Curious Thought about NFL Sundays Question for the elders of SF. Has the site ever considered posting a thread for live discussion on Sundays during the NFL season?

Olympic Traitor? Chris Kaman of the Clippers, a US citizen, obtained German citizenship and plays basketball for the German Olympic team in these Olympics. He is three generations removed from his great-grandparents who came here from the motherland. There's some dispute about whether a US citizen playing for another national team is kosher. Opinions?

It's 2009. What Resolution Should Your Team/Player Make? What resolution should your favorite (or least favorite) team or athlete make? I can think of many, but I'm sure there are some really good suggestions (not the anatomically impossible kind) out there. Let's hear them, and may 2009 bring health, happiness, and prosperity to SpoFites everywhere. Happy New Year from New Hampshire to all of you.

my faves run like this:
Cardinals (the MLB type, not the NFL type) - make a move this offseason for something. pretty please. starting pitching would be nice.
Lightning (NHL) - try not to finish last in the league, you're really not THAT bad of a team.
Spurs FC - win the Carling Cup, and pick up a couple of wins to get out of the relegation stew.
Ravens - win a game in the playoffs.
hope all of your years are beginning well!
NFL Confidence Pool XLIII Time to dust off the ol' crystal ball (or other object of prognostication) and place your bets. As always, the deadline for making picks is the start of the first playoff game, January 4, 2009 1:00pm ET.

Mark Teixeira is a Yankee. The three top free agents are now members of the Yankees and Manny rumours have started (although, they may stop now). Finally, fans can watch an all-star game played 162 games a season.

Just a point, cjets. You're the one who brought the fact of JG being a Red Sox fan into this conversation, which didn't have to happen.
Baseball itself is the big issue here, although I'm thankful that so far, buying the All-Star team hasn't done the Yankees a scrap of good. I simply want to see how the team actually plays and if they, All-Stars that they are, can match up with the reigning AL champions, the Rays, or even with the Red Sox, who weren't exactly shabby last year, if you'll remember. We'll see how it happens in the field, not in the bank.
And by the way, before anyone tries to bring my bias into it, I'm a Cardinals fan, 11th on the list and 14th in average player salary according to the earlier posted CBSSports.com list.
Let's Make NFL Extra Points Interesting
Instead of having allowing the place kicker to kick all extra points in the NFL, imagine if the player who scored the touchdown had to kick the extra point. If the player who scored is injured or completely incapable of making an extra point, then you have to go for two.

Some NFL stadiums now accepting tattling via text message. Fans in some cities can now text stadium security the location of drunken, rowdy fans.

I'd have to agree with bob that sport and politics don't usually blend well, especially when we get to issues that people such as fraze feel so passionately about, and in my opinion for good reason. An argument like this seems to pop up around at least one team every year, but yet nothing ever changes. I might be remembering wrong, but I believe there was a stink a couple years ago over the Seminoles of Florida State, again as bob mentioned. It's an issue that should continue to be examined, but it seems to merely create bad blood among friends here.
I'd also bring up the point that if animals were intelligent and disagreed with our naming mascots after them, whatever would we do? No mascots ever.
MLB Post-Season Pick 'Em, World Series Edition This is it. There are a bunch of marbles on the table, and the winner gets all of them. Make your picks inside.

Favre Accused of Helping Packers Opponent Brett Favre phoned officials of the Detroit Lions prior to their game with the Green Bay Packers and gave an hour-long tutorial on the Packers offense, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer claimed today. If true, it didn't help -- the Pack won 45-28.

So amaztek, about that whole addiction thing.
To quote this article: "The NFL doctors kept calling. Favre kept ignoring them. Finally, a league doctor called and said Favre had been classified as behavioral-referred instead of self-referred because the Packers' team doctors had contacted the NFL about his addiction to painkillers.
Now, Favre had no choice. He had to report to the Menninger Clinic or he would be fined four weeks' pay, or about $900,000."
Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I wouldn't really call that "voluntarily going into treatment". Your statement about "NO ONE in the packers organization forcing him to go" is true. They tried, it didn't work, so they called the NFL. Nice try there. Oh, and by the way, why should one not bring the addiction up? It's a part of his life and career just as much as every start, pass, touchdown, and interception he's ever had.
I'll give this thing a whirl. Just dropped you the e-mail, Bo.
