Sports Memories

- Meeting Stan Musial. The first time was as a kid at an autograph session. The second time was as an adult. I worked for a major furniture retailer and was fortunate to deliver a reclining chair to his home. He greeted me, then disapeared. He came back a few minutes later with an autographed ball and lithograph. Amazing guy.

- Having dinner with Rich and Ron Sutter. I was a peewee hockey player, and my team won the season-ending tournament. We were invited to the Blue Note Banquet, which featured all the winning teams from the Saint Louis area and a player or two at each team's table.

- Meeting Mike Eruzione, Pierre Larouche, and Phil Esposito. While working at a ice hockey facility in Ft. Myers, Florida, I was a sort of liazon to them during their respective youth hockey camps. Phil Esposito had the rink staff for dinner 3 nights during the 5 day camp. All three still posessed amazing hockey ability and are great individuals to boot. It was a surreal week of hockey and instruction. Note: Phil Esposito's shins looked like an old piece of driftwood that had been battered against the rocks. He's a monster.

- Any Blues vs. Blackhawks hockey game at the Old Barn in Saint Louis. There will never be a comparable hockey venue in STL.

- Game 4 Blues vs. Blackhawks 1992-93 season. While hoping for the sweep, I brought my broom to the Arena only to have it taken away by the usher. Nevertheless, the Blues won, and I enjoyed watching Ed Belfour break his stick across the goal posts in disgust. The place was rockin'- literally.

- Sept 8th, 1998. Mark Macgwire hits # 62. I was not at the game, but went down to the stadium and witnessed the awards and ceremonies after the game had ended. The Cardinals franchise opened the stadium for all to come in, it was crazy.

One that stood out to me just last year was Hannu Toivonen, then on the Blues. Link below. Love the ears.

Whats the ruling on RICHSWORDS27, JJ? Once you drop, it's no longer an ace, right?

As far as the story, it says there are 15 friends and family that have witnessed the shots. That does make it a little more believable for me. If it was just his drinking buddy Butch, then I would call BS right away. Personally, if I were invited to play golf with a relative who has had 2-4 aces in a week, I would have recorded every shot and had proof of the 5th or whatever number he was on. If it's tru, then congrats, that's amazing. If it's not, then shame on you.

Everyone's pretty much lower than me, YYM. But as much as it pains me to include a Wings fan, you sir, are low enough to deserve thanks as well. 3 digits for sure, and some select 4 digiters.

Or maybe you're looking for revenge/continuity after a disappointing/excellent regular season? Either way, here's your chance as the CFL heads into the playoffs. We begin anew and it's anyone's game. Prefontaine - because TT really, really likes him.

And I guess David Duval wasn't getting it done on the Tour, so it's CFL kicking for him now. Who knew?

Rain Game Enters World Series Lore Players on both the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays can't believe the conditions in the rain-suspended game 5 in the World Series, particularly in the sixth when the Rays drove home the tying run in the slop. "That was probably the worst conditions I've ever played under in my life," said Carlos Pena of the Rays. "When do you ever see a puddle at home plate?"

Wouldn't weather delayed games in April (or March) be more acceptable than a World Series delay? Methinkso.

Why not just start the season a week early? Or two? And be done by mid Oct. I'd consider that most of the problem solved.

When emergency services showed up, they confused a 17-year-old girl with a 47-year-old man.

Poor girl, maybe she does look like a 47-year old male. And when the medics arrived they said they were going to take him/her to rehab and he/she said "No, No, No."

Small Bug Only issue I've noticed recently. In the member pages (my own is the link cited), the old menu appears in the upper right corner, as it was before the remodel. And assumably due to said remodel, all the links but "home", "about", and "locker room" are dead. If this has been hit before, my apologies. And if this is in process, again the apologies. Just thought I'd bring it to light.

Curiously rcade, what's next on the agenda?
