Are you ready for some (weird-looking) football? Piedmont (CA) High School is running a novel new offensive package. How novel? How about two quarterbacks and all 11 men potentially eligible to catch a pass? College and pro coaches are calling, but not everyone thinks it will translate.

Terrell Owens is a sweet, sweet man. If you get mowed down by a Honda Civic, you'd be extremely lucky to have Terrell Owens nearby.

Judge Sides with Redskins The Washington Redskins have won the latest round in a 16-year court battle against a group of American Indians, prevailing on a technicality that again skirts the issue of whether the team’s nickname is racially offensive. In a ruling dated June 25 and first circulated Thursday, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ruled that the youngest of the seven Native American plaintiffs waited too long after turning 18 to file the lawsuit that attempts to revoke the Redskins trademarks.

An Instant Classic "A rivalry between the league's two most storied franchises -- with some of the game's biggest names and biggest moments -- now has its biggest rally. No team had ever overcome more than a 15-point deficit after the first quarter, and Elias Sports Bureau said it was the biggest comeback in the finals since 1971. One thing's for sure, it will forever be remembered in the annals of Celtics-Lakers lore."

Crooked ref claims NBA fixes games Tim Donaghy, ex-ref convicted of betting on games, claims referees pressured to call fouls by league and sometimes do so on their own. NBA denies it.

Regardless of fixed games, (which is not surprising) - I think the officiating is absolutely atrocious in NBA games, to the point where I think it is ruining a beautiful, exciting game. The disparate differences in how games are called is ridiculous, but how games often have no action - just a constant stopping-and-starting.

Tejada tells team he’s 33, instead of 31. Houston Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada told the team he’s actually 33, two years older than he’s listed in the club’s media guide and other baseball records after being shown a copy of his birth certificate by ESPN.

But Will It Be a Good Use of a Timeout when ESPN has to sit Greg Easterbrook down again? Easterbrook was all over the Pats' camera scandal. Unlike the rest of mainstream sports media, he's still on about it, even accusing the NFL of covering up Superbowl cheating, all of which earned him a decent rebuke from ESPN's ombudsman. That didn't stop him from using this week's column to make an interesting comparison between the Pats and Colts before their Week 9 matchup. Even the less-than-serious quarters of Internet sports are taking notice.

I agree that he'd come off better or more even-handed if he wrote from more of a 'suggestion' vantage point rather than asserting his opinions as fact. But Easterbrook just does the sports writing because he likes to - it's not his main gig - so he has nothing to lose by defending his opinion to the death. I also think that his columns are the type of sports journalism we rarely see on a national level. Most of the really strong opinion stuff stays on the local level. I appreciate the fact that he's going against the mainstream and not letting the Pats off the hook for what he perceives as a serious indiscretion being largely ignored.

I kinda think Easterbrook has a point. The Pats and the NFL are acting somewhat shady about the cheating affair, choosing to sweep it under the rug as quickly as possible. They're an amazing team, regardless - but I don't think his characterizations are entirely incorrect or unfounded.
definitely interesting. seems like the ball would HAVE to come out a few seconds after the snap or else the QB would get creamed. i guess having the extra QB in the backfield gives you the option of a screen or lateral if everyone is covered.
