Beaverboard, I loved the orange uniforms. I've been trying to find a Brooks 55 orange jersey without success.

I have yet to see the Titans play this season. They are never on in the DC area. I want to see if they are as good as their record indicates.

MLB vs. NPB To court or not to court? That is the question.

I don't like gentlemen's agreements that benefit wealthy team owners at the expense of players trying to do what is best for them. Player's should be able to get the best deal they can on whatever continent. If the Japanese start poaching American talent because they have a better offer, so be it.

Mark Cuban Accused of Insider Trading Entrepreneur Mark Cuban, owner of the National Basketball Association's Dallas Mavericks, was charged Monday by the Securities and Exchange Commission with insider trading.

posted by BornIcon at 12:10 PM on November 21

My original statement is that Cuban has been charged with violation of a law. If found guilty he will have committed a crime.

Nope. You cannot be found guilty in a civil court. Guilty/non-guilty is a criminal law distinction where Cuban would be tried in a criminal court and the SEC would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt all the elements of the alleged crime. That is not what is happening here.

Dave2007, that's pretty shady. That email sounds pretty damning, especially the timing. Cuban's alleged offense happened in 2004, the email exchange happened in 2007. Perhaps they started investigating him in 2007, found this stock sale and started pursuing it then? That would better explain the delay.

If you do a criminal background check on Cuban if he loses this case, this case will not show up. Neither does it show up if you owe the IRS back taxes. That is because they aren't crimes.

A violation of the law and committing a crime are not one in the same. There are tons of laws where the penalties are not penal in nature. Thus, they are not criminal, but civil violations. This is no different than someone who fails to pay all they should on their taxes. Some violations are criminal, and some are merely civil. They are still both violations of the law, but anyone who has ever had to pay back taxes is not a criminal. A restaurant that fails inspection, a store that is charging a different price than the display indicates, a doctor who releases information to a patient's family without permission are all violating the law. That doesn't make them crimes.

A crime is a violation of a penal law, not a violation of any law.

I agree with rcade. This is not a criminal charge. It is a civil complaint. If Cuban loses, he pays a fine, but has no criminal record. The burden of proof for the SEC is at a civil level.

Stop sign violations are usually civil infractions, they aren't generally criminal either.

In all likelihood, Mark Cuban didn't think he had received any confidential information. He has no fiduciary duty here, so the SEC has to prove that he was told something in confidence.

Fightin’ Phils are World Series champions After 28 years, and two days of waiting for the rain to stop so that Game 5 of the World Series could resume, the wait is over.

The Phillies are the champions.

I'm not happy for the Phillies. I was hoping that Tampa could get all their championships after going through a Philadelphia team. Clearly, I know far too many people from Philly. Still, I'm proud of how well the Rays did this year. And, Hamels is a fantastic player.

I don't really care if Native Americans find the name Redskins offensive or not. I don't like team names being based on the color of one's skin or a slur. It is gross. Would I end my long-term fandom because of it? No. My alma mater is Florida State. While I really wish they would just change their name (and have sent letters and mention it anytime someone begs for money), I still support them financially and with my fandom. I'd like to half-heartedly support the local team, but I do find it is more difficult when their name offends me. I don't even want to tell my daughter the name of the team when I'm watching a game. rcade is right, the USPTO should stop enforcing trademarks that are offensive.

This is not a new issue. The Washington Post endorsed a name change more than 15 years ago. The DC Council also voted to support the name change years ago. Also, I do not know that the NFL agreements with teams allow them to dictate name changes.

Isiah Thomas, Media-Savvy As Always Savvy politicians and public officials typically release bad news to the press on a Friday afternoon, assuming the press will be tired of the story by Monday and the public won't remember. Isiah Thomas was notoriously toxic toward the press as coach and general manager of the Knicks. But the guy sure knows the right time to overdose on sleeping pills

This weekend I surfed past some inspiring movie about a single mother working hard and raising a success, except the success was Isiah Thomas. The whole movie played completely different now than when it was probably made. He is really doing a fantastic job of destroying his legacy.

Rain Game Enters World Series Lore Players on both the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays can't believe the conditions in the rain-suspended game 5 in the World Series, particularly in the sixth when the Rays drove home the tying run in the slop. "That was probably the worst conditions I've ever played under in my life," said Carlos Pena of the Rays. "When do you ever see a puddle at home plate?"

Favre Accused of Helping Packers Opponent Brett Favre phoned officials of the Detroit Lions prior to their game with the Green Bay Packers and gave an hour-long tutorial on the Packers offense, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer claimed today. If true, it didn't help -- the Pack won 45-28.

Hello World! Rays beat Bosox in Game 7, Advance to World Series The young Rays completed a stunning run to their first pennant,...behind Matt Garza's masterful pitching in Game 7 of the AL championship series. When rookie David Price struck out J.D. Drew with the bases loaded to end the eighth inning, Tampa Bay showed it had plenty of resolve.

I was so nervous by the game last night I could hardly watch it. Fantastic. Upton should have been the ALCS MVP. Anyway, it is okay by me that everyone is picking the Phillies to win. Underdog has been a winning formula for the Rays all season long.

Cowboys Acquire Roy Williams in Trade with Lions The Dallas Cowboys traded next year's first-, third- and sixth-round draft picks to the Detroit Lions for wide receiver Roy Williams. The trade deadline move adds a receiver who has a career 262 catches for 3,884 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Granted, since he is who he is, the moment he has something to say, people have a tendacy to create these outlandish scenerios as to how he's a cancer in the locker room and that's just not the case.

Because he is who he is, those scenarios aren't really outlandish. For a long while in Philadelphia, I thought TO was right as well. But, at some point, being right or wrong is irrelevant, being a team player should take precedent over that. He is a talented player, but I wouldn't want to take the risk of having him on my team. When things are good they are very good, but when they go bad, there will be hell to pay.

I don't think Folkways said that he holds a grudge against the Cowboys, just that they aren't his team. And, he didn't bash them at all. They aren't my team, they aren't a rival of my team, and I don't love them or hate them.

YYM (Lions fan and proud of it)

You have to be happy about how much value you got in return for him as well. Three draft picks for a player that the Lions didn't even want, and could have left at the end of the year. The Lions got more value than I think anyone (except Jones) thought he was worth.

So, BI, as a Cowboys fan, you aren't the least bit worried about TO? The tenor of his comments this year have been eerily reminiscent to me of how he starts acting when he goes into that seek and destroy mode of his.
