Dikembe Mutombo will open the door on his life's work Sept. 2 in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, marking the completion of the $29 million Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center. He donated $15 million of his own money and received additional aid from his fellow NBA players, owners, and celebrities such as Jay-Z, Bono, and Bill Gates. The hospital is named after his mother, who died nine years ago of a stroke and failed to make it to a nearby hospital due to civil unrest and curfew restrictions.

Pistons' Davis Arrested in Miami Beach They had to use a stun gun on him to take him into custody, but his agent seems to think the police targeted him and plans to sue. I wonder if the cops sometimes do come down harder on pro athletes just to show they don't play favorites? Still if I was a cop and 6'11' basketball player threatened to kick my ass I might reach for the stun gun too.

Saying he was targeted makes it sound like he was minding his own business and the cops decided to fuck with him for no reason. I totally agree.

Dale Davis sometimes had a temper out on the basketball court. Now it will be interesting to see if he will have one in the court.

UCLA Gives Dorrell a quarter million dollar raise. Coming off a 10-2 season is this going to be the year UCLA finally gets some of the respect it deserves? Will they make L.A. a true two football powerhouse season? Oh and Howland got a nice chunk of change too.

I, just as many of you feel sympathy for Lamar and his family. This must be a tough time for them, for I am almost a father and cannot fathom the pain Lamar and his family are going through. Deep condolences and best wishes.

don't shove it in the other teams face Thats exactly what your trying to do as a player. Isnt the point of the game to outdo the other team? Why not have a little FUN when you have accomplished something glorious like a one handed endzone catch or an incredible 65 yard rush. I can understand the point of good sportsmanship and all that, but these guys are professionals, if they cant take a little bit of showboating from the other team they are in the wrong league. Maybe go back to Pop Warner where those types of rules actually have a point? I think Johnson should celebrate every time he scores. I for one enjoy it.
