Sports Bio

The most memorable sporting event I ever saw was a couple of years ago when Stanford had one of the basketball teams that stayed undefeated longest with Josh Childress. We saw them play at the NCAA tournament and they won their firs game. But the second game they played Alabama and in the closing seconds Alabama hit a floater to win the game. What I remember most was everyone in the Arena was chanting "overrated" and there was one guy who was chanting "just like gonzaga" who had been beat earlier that day.

USA Basketball Ready to Rebound? After a horrendous sixth-place finish at the World Basketball Championships in 2002 and the bronze medal debacle at the Athens Olympics in 2004, a Team USA housecleaning resulted in a new coach (Mike Krzyzewski), a new team stocked with young talent, and a whole new attitude. Whether it will be enough to reestablish American dominance on the international stage remains to be seen.

things should go better. Coahc K is a good coach and will do well with the team.

An American Tragedy: Pat Tillman's Uncertain Death. ESPN today published an exhaustive investigative report into the death of America's most celebrated volunteer -- former Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman. In Part One, ESPN asks: "Was the Army and/or the White House so desperate for a positive spin that they morphed Pat Tillman into a male version of Jessica Lynch? ... Tillman's Silver Star suggests the possibility of spin."

This happened like five years ago. Can we please move on to something that is actually current?Sure its tragedy but who needs to hear about it all the time?

Stickball. John McCarthy is trying to teach kids to play baseball for the love of the game. Caught this on NPR on the way to work today. You can read this or listen to the audio on the site. Sweet in so many ways.

Cool. I am from a state that doesn't even know what a sandlot is let alone have one. This is a great story

Pierzynski, Garciaparra win final spots AL manager Ozzie Guillen will now have seven of his own Chicago players on the roster.

I am a cubs fan, and I wanted Michael Barret on the All Star team just for punching Pierzynski. Pierzynski is a good and deserving player and Nomar is having a great year.

Gatlin Denied World Record - Gatlin's time of 9.766 seconds should have been manually rounded up to 9.77 seconds, which only equals Asafa Powell's (reinstated) world record.

I don't see what the big deal is. It was virtually the same time anyway. Put those two in a race and they would not be able to tell who wins.

Fantasy baseball is going to trial! There is a dispute between a St. Louis Co. that operates some fantasy sports leagues over the internet, and the internet arm of MLB. MLB thinks anyone using names and stats needs to buy a license, the St. Louis Co. says those are public domain.

I love fantasy baseball and stuff, but this is not a big deal

Babe Ruth's lost home run In 1918, Ruth hit what would be called a walk-off homer today. But back then, the rules called it a triple. And, except for a brief period in the late 1960s, it's been a triple ever since. Talk about an asterisk.

And people should not question the way the game once was.

Well...the rules when Babe Ruth played were that way and that home run should stay a triple to remind people that Babe Ruth played in a different era than Hank Aaron. An asterisk is not good for this because it should stay the way it is.

Wallace and the taste of his own words. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Pistons fan, but (except for Broardway Joe) how often does guaranteeing a game work? Should players keep their mouths shut sometimes?

Rasheed should learn to keep his damn mouth shut. no one wants to hear these guarantees that aren't worth shit and are usually wrong
