Concussions last longer than they used to

Keyon Dooling's Secret

I have a new found respect for Keyon. I'm proud to have had him play for the Griz' even if for a short time.

Stern Would Like to Eliminate Hack-a-Howard

Watching "hack-a-whoever" is probably not entertaining, but isn't it the player's responsibility--and perhaps the team's--to eliminate it?

Grizzlies Off to Hottest Start Ever

I did not think the Griz made much improvement in personnel during the off-season despite a lot of changes coming off the bench. They have not won a season opener since moving to Memphis, and the lose to the Clippers stung. After that game I would never have imagined them having such a strong November.

It is also interesting to see how well some former Griz are doing this season like Mayo and Vasquez. They have both started every game they played this season after being second string players their most recent season in Memphis.

If they can get solid backup PG play, this may well be their best season, yet.

Go Griz!

Matt Kenseth Wins Fire-Delayed Daytona 500

While there was plenty "spectacle", I have to say that the racing was quite disappointing. Like most fans, I dislike "tandem" racing. However, I think this was actually worse. As long as there were cars lined up on the inside, the outside line could not pass.

I long for the good ol' days of restrictor plate racing where the last twenty (20) to twenty-five (25) laps were thrilling--with lots of dramatic position changes among the top thirty (30), or so, cars. Instead, there was no suspense--other than whether there would be another wreck--until the last thousand feet.

Edwards gets probation for intentionally wrecking Keselowski

I'm a fan of the Cup series and watch a least some of 'most every race. I occasionally watch some of the Nationwide and Truck races. I do not watch other forms of racing. That said, I have the following observations.

* The subjectivity in some of NASCAR's rules/enforcement really annoys me.

* NASCAR also annoys me by being too reactionary with rule changes.

* I've heard "team rules" play a pretty big role in F1, but I cannot think of an instance where one Cup driver cheated for another (or even caused a wreck to help a teammate). Perhaps there have been some, but I don't recall any.

* Keselowski winning by spinning Edwards was a result of the asinine "out of bounds" rule on restrictor-plate tracks. NASCAR caused that one by disqualifying Regan Smith in a previous race when Tony Stewart ran him out of bounds. While I don't like Brad, I will admit he did the right thing given the rules--he held his position when Carl came across his nose.

* NASCAR owes Kevin Harvick an apology relating to his suspension for rough driving. However, I didn't expect them to give Carl serious punishment because NASCAR asked for this.

* I used to like Carl when he was "just glad to be here", but he has long since outgrown his britches.

* Brad probably would have had a top five (5) finish, but now he's barely in the top thirty-five (35) in owners points. This could be huge for that team.

* The resulting caution changed the complexion of the race tremendously, and that's quite unfortunate.

* While I was never a fan of the fist fights after the races, I think that's a far better way to settle issues than this. Too many innocent people get hurt--fortunately none physically this time.

I fight because it's my job, not because I like it.

LOL! Hickey fighting...I haven't had a laugh like that in a long time.

Thanks!

Johnson survives tire debacle at Indianapolis

That was awful! I wish they had used a much harder tire even if the drivers complained about it being too slick. I was quite surprised that no one tried staying out on the last caution...c'mon it's the Brickyard 400! I'm also a little surprised no one tried short pitting that last caution by pitting four (4) laps before the scheduled caution lap. That would have been before they closed pit road (assuming they didn't leave it closed for that whole interval). I really think Nascar screwed up by continuing to throw the competition cautions. Make the teams take some risks. After the first forty (40) laps, they knew what they were dealing with. What a joke!

Video: Diamondbacks Catcher Chris Snyder Fractures Left Testicle

I'll bet Chris never imagined that when he said 'I'd give my left nut to make it in the majors.'

Fines will be imposed for clear cases of flopping:

Or how he traveled on that play...Or how the Laker's shot right beforehand hit the rim and the shot clock should have been reset... I agree in principle here. I didn't see the end of the game, but the part I saw seemed poorly officiated. That's a shame for a conference finals game.

Pau Gasol headed to the Lakers.

As a Griz fan and huge Pau fan, I'd say it will definitely hurt the Griz. But, apparently a lot of knowledgeable folks disagree since Wallace basically gave him away. McKie's retired, so he's a throwaway. I don't know enough about the guy from Georgia Tech to know what kind of contribution he could make. Including Mark must be some kind of sick joke. I'd think that would just make Pau mad. Finally, on Brown...from my understanding he's a throwaway, too. The only reason Wallace wanted him was because his contract expires at the end of this season. We're about to get rid of one head case (Swift), but apparently we'll have one to replace him for the rest of the season. I don't think the Griz will be able to get anyone comparable to Pau in the off season (even with a max contract). I suppose we'll see. Oh, and the draft picks? Adding Pau to the Lakers should ensure that the draft picks will be very close to the end of the first round...big whoop. Who have the Griz drafted since Battier that was ever any good anyway? I suppose Conley may be one day, but again we'll see.

Gordon, JJ lose 100 points; crew chiefs suspended six races

I agree with you, machaus. In the past they've been more reasonable and admitted they'd been outsmarted--and promptly made a new rule. I can stomach their willingness to be flexible with punishments, but being flexible about rules (think Calvin and Hobbs...make it up as you go along) is very frustrating.

The New Coach of the Sacramento Kings?

When the Grizzlies picked him up as an assistant coach, I didn't figure they'd have him long. The other wildcard in this situation is his relationship with Bonzi Wells. The Grizzlies traded Bonzi last summer after he had a falling out with coach Fratello. So, I'd be curious to know what Musselman's relationship with him is like.

Why this year's French Open is so important

Great article! I suppose the language is a little pretentious, though. Some may say that about me, too...
