113! Coach Ed Grezinsky noted, "We didn't start off like that to set a record], but she had 58 at halftime. At that point, I said, 'Just let her go.'"

Wow. That's very impressive. As has been mentioned, that girl just paid for her college education. I bet no one who was at that game will soon forget it.
On an absolute level, Wilt's and other NBA dominations were far more impressive. On a relative level, though, no NBA player (Jordan and Wilt included) ever displayed this level of utter dominance over their peers. I realize some of you won't care about this, but I think it's pretty impressive to so completely dominate your peers, even if they're not as good as someone else's peers.
Flagging support for the Olypmic opening ceremonies? Several Canadian athletes have turned down the chance to carry the flag during this year's opening Olympic ceremonies in Turin, saying it would tire them out for upcoming events. Don Cherry, for one, is outraged. Good decision by the athletes or just plain hosers?

I've been to Canada once; hand me the flag, I'll do it for a free trip to Italy.
Badgers give Alvarez a goodbye kiss. And as the sports announcers were spewing 'Auburn this, Auburn that, Auburn the other thing,,,' Wisconsin went in and kicked their bum but good.

Barry just plain made Big Ten Football...what it is today
Not so sure. He's a good coach but (even ignoring Paterno since PSU "just" joined the Big Ten 15ish years ago), there have been enough very good Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, etc teams to say Big Ten football would have been what it is today without Barry Alvarez.
I'm not saying he's not a great coach. I'm just saying he didn't "make" the conference.

If he's guilty then throw the book at him. But I hope if some girl ever accuses me of rape you people aren't on my jury.
Deion drops the Neon. "At this point and age in my career I'm not looking for a stage," Sanders said ... "I'm looking to teach the young players how to be professional, how to be a man, how to be a father, how to be a friend, how to handle your finances."... When he quits for keeps, Sanders probably will be asked to return to the TV studio. But his experience over the past two seasons has caused him to consider an alternate vocation: What he really wants to do is become a coach.

I kind of like the guy. He seems to have significantly matured in the past 5 years or so.
On him as a commentator: I'm not crazy about him but noone makes me change the channel faster than the loudmouthed idiot that is Michael Irvin.
Some honesty, finally Lawton admits to taking steroids. "It was such a stupid thing, but I was desperate"

I agree. He made a mistake and admitted it. Kujos. What I wonder about is how many minor leaguers/college players/high school players have tried roids to try to get to the next level.

I'm not sure when this conversation became about McGwire, but since his name keeps coming up: Andro was legal when he took it. He never denied taking Andro. Whether he took other stuff too I don't know, but what's the big deal with him taking what was then a legal supplement?

How awful. God Bless them. Good thing Indy lost; at least that is off his plate.
Johnny Damon to sign with Yanks. That sound you hear is that of millions of Bostonian females wailing in unison.

As a Sox fan I think this sucks. It's very likely that whoever the Sox replace him with will be inferior. He may have been asking for too much money, but at the end of the day, I just don't care how much money John Henry spends. And I am too poor and too far away to be concerned with any raise in ticket prices to offset players' salaries. I think that in terms of winning games this move is overall good for the Yankees and bad for the Sox.
Oh wait, never mind. (NFL version)

I didn't get to see a lot of either game so take it easy on me but from what I saw...
I'm happy it was the Chargers that snapped the streak and not the Jaguars. All those dirty plays last week (punching Reggie Wayne (I think it was him anyway) in the back of the head, pounding someone's (Edgerrin's?) head into the turf the very next play) made me lose a lot of respect for Jacksonville. What a bunch of thugs. Good for San Diego. Probably good for Indianapolis also.
Red Sox contact Clemens about 2006 season I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

"do you stay at the job you are at so that you can monitor your child coming up through the organization?"
Unless you've got a job with spectators that comment makes no sense.
Tejada Wants Out of Baltimore "I've done many things with this team and I haven't seen results," Miguel Tejada said, "and the other teams are getting stronger while the Orioles have not made any signings to strengthen the club." A possible blockbuster! What are the chances and what would it mean to all involved?

What chico said. It doesn't seem very likely. But as a Sox fan, I'd still like to see it happen. If Manny is going to go, this would be a nice return.
For Red Sox, Ramirez problem won't go away. Will Renteria? Bernie Williams may have played his last game as a Yankee, and the Astros might not offer Clemens arbitration. Also, John Olerud retires, head intact.

Didn't make the plays? They did make the plays but every time they did, it was called back by the idiots! I'm not a fan of either team, but I am a fan of GOOD officiating... I really think they had too much of an effect on the outcome of this game
agreed.
the Refs were waving their terrible towels enough for everybody
also agreed.
Now for my comment: I know this in no way affected the out come of the game, but (referring to the call near the end of the game), how do you get called for illegal block or whatever when you (Hasselbeck) are trying to tackle the guy with the ball? How do you block a blocker?
