I think everybody recognizes the nauseous game being played out here. Unfortunately, it is a game that needs to be played in the interest of D-Mat and Scott Boras' commision. Boras uses hyperbole and the Red Sox down play. I expect them to meet in the middle.

Yet another leak? According to Peter Gammons and Jayson Stark, Boston has traded #1 prospect Hanley Ramirez and prospect Anibel Sanchez to the Marlins for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell.

Setting reliability and the above Yankee bias aside, getting a career 3.46 ERA, 26 year old for a top prospect seems like a gift from the Gods for the Red Sox rotation. Add Beckett to Johnathan Papelbon and the rotation starts to look above average. Mike Lowell (a Yankee Draftee) will either platoon or outright replace Bill Mueller. It would appear to be a strong move by the GM-by-committee in Boston that does solve a problem and need. The Marlins also get what they want, which is salary relief.

That'll shut 'em up (maybe). It wasn't a major, but so what? Amelie Mauresmo, criticized as a perennial choker, followed up a splendid semifinal smackdown of Siberian seductress Sharapova (okay, I'll stop now) with a 5-7 7-6 6-4 victory over Mary Pierce to win the WTA Championship on Sunday. Really amazing play from both Mauresmo and Pierce; if you missed this one, you missed a beauty.

I concur TIEGUY, I've really enjoyed watching the discussions for the last year or so and only recently joined them. However, between the unqualified passionate statements and hateful usernames, this place isn't the same.
You gotta love the size of Nathan Vasher's Stones. Either take the ball at your own 35 yard line or risk being in the coaches doghouse when you are tackled short of it. He took door number 3.

Money, it's a gas. Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash. New car, caviar, four star daydream, think I'll buy me a football team. John Nic is fed up with all the whining about Chelsea's millions. Could he talking about the Yankees or maybe Manchester United in the pre-Roman era? Does money really buy trophies or is it just the target of resentment for those who support teams with shallow pockets?

I think it is fair to say that money buys a greater opportunity for trophies or championships. John Nicholson touches on this point with the quote, "Yes the money gives you a much bigger chance of success by allowing you to have strength in depth..." Does it guarantee success? Most definitely not, due to the overwhelming amount of variables associated with team sports. A cute point of note would be the difference in salary between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, which is about $80 million. What can $80 million buy? It bought the team that won the World Series. I would certainly enjoy a level playing field for the sports that I watch, but there's something to be enjoyed and said for the David and Goliath clashes in organized athletics. Who doesn't enjoy rooting for the underdog, on occasion? However, I can feel for the franchise owners and fans that have to struggle to contend with the Financial Goliaths of the Organized Sports World.
