Suspected NBA Referee's Games Hit the Over More Often Over the last two NBA seasons, games refereed by Tim Donaghy scored more points than Las Vegas expected 57 percent of the time (79 of 138 games), according to R.J. Bell of the sports betting site PreGame.Com. In the two years prior, his games hit the over 44 percent of the time. "There is an absolute correlation between the number of fouls a referee calls in an NBA game and the number of points scored by the teams," he writes. "An NBA ref who intended to illicitly influence a game would do so by calling more fouls, and thus his games would be higher scoring than average." A source told the Denver Post Sunday that the league has known about the FBI's investigation of the referee since January, rather than after the NBA Finals as reported elsewhere.

The feds are only investigating him for supposed violations starting in the past two years, thats why this evidnce is so damning. If the 44% is viewed as his "pre-corruption" numbers and 57% as his "fixing lines for the mob" numbers, the difference would be astounding and yes, would seem to indicate that something has changed in the fundamental way he calls games.

13% is a HUGE difference....

Kobe Bryant Demands Trade "I would like to be traded, yeah," Bryant said on 1050 ESPN Radio in New York. "Tough as it is to come to that conclusion there's no other alternative, you know?"

Oh, the link I posted is in the article isn't it? I should read these things first instead of skimming them. I'm just so excited! This is better than the playoffs!

Bolts zap Schottenheimer. It was inevitable. I thought it would happen sooner. With the level of talent on that team, there's no longer an excuse not to win it all. But did they wait too long? Are all the best candidates for the job already taken?

Wait a second, this could the best case senario for Marty...
...no, wait hear me out...

1. He gets fired. Ok bad, but he doesn't look like the goat here as much as Smith and Spano do if the Chargers don't at least win the AFC west next year.

2. LT is all but a lock (ok, at least the frontrunner) to be the next Madden Cover Guy. Which means the jinx will be in full effect next year. If he goes down or is ineffective, like that seahawks' back was this year, then this is really only a .500 team (like the Colts w/o Manning).

3. So SD get between 6 and 8 wins, misses the playoffs, sportswriters everywhere gasp, and suddenly, SD is talking about "the good old 'Martyball' days"

Its just one of the possible senarios that I can think of, but this one most vindicates my belief that a 14-2 coach should Never, EVER be fired.

One Toke Over The Line, Ron Mexico... Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick "reluctantly" turned over a water bottle to TSA agents at the Miami-Dade International Airport yesterday. Upon closer inspection, the bottle had a hidden compartment containing "a dark particulate" and emanating "a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana." Considering that Ron Mexico's had at least one TSA problem before, why would you even try to get something through security?

Duel Threat QB = $130M
Bottle of water = $1
Ron Mexico name generator= priceless

Football fans accused of hanging sheep from goalpost The rivalry between two Sevier County high schools runs hot - so hot that Richfield football fans are suspected of killing a sheep and stringing it up at South Sevier on the eve of game day.

"This rivalry has been going on for years and years," said Sevier County sheriff's Deputy Russell Mason. "Maybe it got a little out of hand."

Maybe?

The "'Sheed Wallace Rule"? How about the Duncan Rule...

This rule might make the NBA even less entertaining.

A-Rod Agonistes "Joe wants to see you."

Wow, you have to be some huge tool to even say those things to yourself, let alone to a reporter for public consumption.

In a world where athletes are told to always say "the right thing", or else the media shoves them under a bus, it's good to see some honest perspective from a player of his calibur. I'd rather hear this than "well I just go out there and play... just giving 110%... I'll do my best to live up to expectations..."ect., even if it does come off as little bit arrogant.

If it's how he really feels than yes, it is honest perspective. Whether you are the things you said is only know to you and your significant other relationship(s).

A tool is the guy who says something because it's what he thinks people want to hear. Maybe we have different definitions of that word.

The Red Sox Worst Nightmare David Ortiz of the Red Sox is out indefinately due to an irregular heart beat. Are Bostons hopes of getting into the playoffs officially over? (They're already 7 games behind the Yankees.)

Pitching was in trouble all year long and Varitek being hurt/out just double underscored it.

There it is. Pitching is the real reason. Even if the line-up was healthy, pitching is the difference. Good thing Theo held on to those young guns, or else this could be a real problem down the line.

Really hope Papi's ok....

Beasts of the East. Michael Silver explains why the NFC East is the best division in football.

posted to Football at 12:21 PM CDT

When making the case for the "toughest division", one must take into account all four teams in said division. No other division except the NFC East has 4 legitimate playoff contenders. The AFC-W has the Raiders, AFC-S=Texans&Titans, AFC-N=Browns, AFC-E=Jets&Bills, NFC-W=49ers, NFC-S=Saints, NFC-N=Lions. As of now, most people would be shocked to see any of these teams in the playoffs, but not surprised to see any of the four NFC-E teams in it.

The "best division" argument, however, will never be agreed on until we see four 9+ win teams in a division in the same year, and if anyone has a chance to do that it has to be the nfc east. Will any of them be in the Superbowl? Doubt it. But thier all in the hunt...

T.K. is better then any version of good old Denny Miller(I still get cold chills when I remember his MNF days) It wasn't great, but it is preseason for brocasters, too. I'll reserve judgement until Oct. or Nov.

Speaking of jugements: Joe Buck is joining the Fox pregame??? First I had to mute the WS, now pre-game and half time on sundays?

Coaching question...
Why would the best hitter in your line-up, whom we can assume bats in the three, four or five hole, be protected by your worst hitter?

Observation: only in baseball would this happen to a kid and no matter how mean it might seem, Mr. Farr wanted his kids to get the win. His concern should be about the success of his players, thats why he's their coach and thats what the parents expect of him.
Reality Check: Its kids playing a game. I've been the last out in a PONY game and I got over it... at least these kids weren't on the streets ealing drugs.

YES! It happened! Like we all knew it would. The most predictable occurence in sports history. Larry Brown out - Isiah in. After all, it only makes sense that a team of five guards should be coached by one. Gentlemen, start your sarcasm.

posted to Basketball at 9:32 AM CDT

Weedy, I don't understand why you would imply that we should "start our sarcasm", when there obviously nothing funny about this situation... Oh, except that Dolan and Isaiah gave Larry 10 Mil to coach the team, but only 40 Mil to not coach them. Does this mean there won't be anymore playful banter between Larry and Starbury anymore? Awe, shucks... I'm gonna miss that.

And has anybody thought about poor Mr. Brown in all of this? After all this was his "dream job"... I kinda liked the guy, sure hopes he lands on his feet (or at least a big pile of money)

Incorrect assumption on my part, I apologize. Guess i figured the Knicks would just pay up like they have been for every other HUGE contract that stuck to them. I imagine he'll still get some or most of it....
