Recent Locker Room Posts by JJ

I will be in Washington DC on Saturday...: and so will the US soccer team, playing Cuba at the RFK. I'm toying with the idea of going along. Anyone fancy it?

Cavs vs Celtics, now with added JJ: I'm doing a very quick work trip to the US next week, but have managed to shoehorn a basketball game (my first ever!) into my hectic schedule on Tuesday 27th November in Cleveland. Who's coming?

Sticky Wicket: - First there was just Stick Cricket, but now there is Stick Football (soccer), Stick Baseball and Stick Speedway (no really). There's also a forum where you can talk to a bunch of other sticks apparently. Link Dump for your favourite online sports games.

Live Sport: I know we have previously discussed this but can't remember if a decision was ever made - should we have a place (another locker room in a way) for people to write a review of a live sporting event they attended?

Link Dump: - just because I couldn't bring myself to post this as a FPP.

UK Events: - thought I ough to post these links, just in case any ardent UK sports fans fancy going to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, or to see Simon Barnes, Lynne Truss and Sir Matthew Pinsent discuss why sport holds us in such thrall.

Front page problems?: I tried to post a (highly amusing, erudite) comment to the golf story about the kid getting a pair of holes-in-one, but clicking the previw button is returning me to the SpoFi homepage.

Know when to hold 'em...: I had a look in the archives and couldn't find it, but I'm nearly sure someone recently was talking about an online SpoFi poker game. Is there one and can I get in it? If there isn't one, does anyone fancy founding one?

Video Killed the Radio Star: - Self-linking? Hell no! I'm linking to the BBC. It's not my fault if they can't find anyone more interesting to interview on a Friday afternoon (at 4PM GMT, 11AM EST).

Competition: - Calling all Googleheads and football fans. I met a guy in a bar last week who once played for the NY Jets and I'm dying to find out who he was [more inside].

Super Sunday : has finished (almost) in Dubai - Tiger beat Ernie in a playoff, a sheikh got the shakes over a hundred foot putt, and I heard a great story about what the Queen really thinks of Nick Faldo [more inside].

The Dubai Desert Classic : begins this Thursday at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai. I'll be in the UAE on business, but hope to find the time to spend at least one day at the tournament writing a column for Sportsfilter. On the off chance that I can't access the website while I'm out there, to whom should I e-mail my incomprehensible dribbling about how nice the weather is?

Merry Christmas!: Or happy holidays, or whatever the politically correct way is to say that these days. I'm snowed under at work and with invites to Christmas drinks parties after work and may not make it back in here before the day itself. So, to completely ignore the rules, guidlines and ethos of this website and post a personal message from me to you - hope you have a good one whatever you're up to. For all the recent pleas for reform, I reckon this place is still a pretty cool place for a frank discussion about trivial things and I've really enjoyed this year in your company.

Me & My Golf: The Sunday Life (rubbish weekly newspaper in Ireland) do a generic golf interview each week with a local golfing personality. I thought it might be interesting for those Spofites who play or watch a bit of golf to give us their answers to the questions [inside, along with my answers].

In London this weekend?: You should go and check out the London Triathlon. It's a weekend long festival of triathlons of all distances for all age groups and both sexes. Aside from the sport to watch, there's a cool EXPO and lots of free stuff. Oh yeah, and me. In neoprene.

The Open Championship: is upon us again - anyone care to make a prediction? I'm sure no one will hold them against you this time next week.

Advice needed from published sports writers...: Following some throw away remarks made on the Guardian's game-by-game Wimbledon coverage last week, I have been contacted by a publishing house who want to talk about turning my foolish crusade into a book. I'm meeting an associate publisher on Thursday but have no clue what to expect. I know there are few of you out there with some experience in this area - anything I should know?

Calling Salmacis!: Sorry to use this place as a message board, but I'm a man short for tonight's men's table tennis doubles and need to catch the attention of said SpoFier! Check your inbox!

JJ's Olympic Crusade: I had a silly idea. Then I explained it to someone and it didn't sound quite so silly. Now it would seem that I'm actually going to do it. I'd really value your comments and/or suggestions about my plan to try my hand at all 128 Olympic disciplines for which I would theoretically be eligible between now and the start of Beijing 2008. [The link is to a blogspot, so probably better to read from the bottom up if you want to get up to speed]
