Comment Editing: Wow, I'm not really not cool with the comment editing- chide me if you must, but if you're going to rewrite comments (and without clear indication, to boot), this site just became a whole lot less friendly.

Sportsfilter Technology Refresh?:
Sportsfilter was founded back in 2002 using a mimic of the Metafilter site code as I understand it- back then, sports posts seemed too "newsfilter-y" back when that was actually frowned upon at Metafilter, and this site was spun up as a dedicated place for that kind of content.

In the intervening years, Metafilter has added a number of features- big and small- that make that site very functional and usable. I'm curious if there is any possibility of having a "technology refresh", in which Sportsfilter gets an update of some of the site code to enable things like live preview, tagging, favoriting, etc.

blockquote doesn't seem to be working as a tag any more:

Historically, both here and at MeFi, I've used blockquote tags to do a quoted section. It makes a nice indented section, making it clear and easy to understand what is being quoted from someone else, and what are my own words...
Anyway, the blockquote tag seems to no longer be working; there's no indentin' going on. Do I need to use another tag?

Like the numbered shirts- but the comments anchor feature doesn't work for user searches:
Just got back from Vegas, noticed the new styles- the alternating color in the comments, the link color change, and the SWANKY player jersey on each user page!!

However, I didn't notice this bug in the previous link/comments regarding the feature: when you go to a user page, and click on user comments, you get a search results page that doesn't use the "new" anchor format of #commentNNNNN.

Etiquette request: While I will of course be glued to the Teevee (great week to be on vacation!) during the *LCS games, I'd re-request we be extra cautious for our international fans who might be getting tape delays, and put no spoiler information in a post header, a la "Sox Win! (more inside)". I'd suggest we do one of two things:

  1. Post the inevitable in-game and post-game chatter threads here in the locker room, with the titles of only "ALCS Game 1 chatter", or
  2. Post that same thread at the start of each game on the front page, recognizing that a final results link is pretty much ancillary to the thread discussion itself.
I trust 99% of spo-fiers to not be "spo-foilers", but just to be safe... :)

Week 3 SpoFi NFL picks are complete!!!
SpoFi once again showed its Borg Collective brilliance, picking "Pats and Cats" more than any other combo. Eight of us can boast we went 2 for 2 this weekend, and 4 now stand tall with 8 of 10 picks through the first 3 weeks. However 12 more are within 1 or 2 points, and with the Superbowl being a triple pick in two weeks, it's still anyone's game.

Congrats also to the Patriots and Panthers, who will meet in two Sundays at Houston to play for the Lombardi trophy. [More Inside]

Week 2 of the SpoFi NFL pool is complete!
3 players scored a perfect 4-4 this weekend, two of whom are now in the lead. Four players have managed 7 of 8 correct picks so far through the first two weeks of play, with 4 more breathing down their necks with 6 points a piece. More results inside...

Whine mode= On
Sorry to preempt the cool interview thread below, but I thought I'd ask this again: Is it possible to change the email address for user 15 (hincandenza) to the same as my own (hincandenza@hotmail.com)? I'm not sure why it wouldn't be that already (unless it is, and the email-your-password feature doesn't work), but it might have been set up as an @rivals.com address, a now defunct dot-com I worked for back in the day; in any event, it'd allow me to retrieve my old account's password and start logging in as that one.

And possibly more difficult, how hard would it be to change comments listed as from user 599 to being from user 15? I assume from the link syntax and existence of features like the post counts on the user profile page that the SpoFi site is stored in mysql or something like that, and each thread is an entry in a table, with comments being a separate table that lists the comment ID, a linking thread ID, a posting userID and a datetime stamp, such that each page is dynamically built out of the tables of threads and comments; in which case a simple SQL update query could alter those 599's to 15's.

It's just that I once again long to be my old self- this "Hal Incandenza" shell, it never has fit quite right. :)

Where have lilnemo, wfrazerj, and forksclovestofu gone? All three had "weekly" columns in the sidebar, but it's not updated. :( I enjoyed their writing...

Admin-y question:
When I originally joined spofi, I was user 15. Some months ago, I forgot my password, and either I never registered my email, or it was the one I used when I was first surfing MeFi/SpoFi (a rivals.com address, a now-defunct company). So I had to re-register as Hal Incandenza.
Is there some way I could be allowed to reclaim (and even if possible, merge with the Hal Incandenza account) my old hincandenza account, and be in sync with MeFi? If even to just set that account to have as its registered email the one I have set to my Hal Incandenza account, so I could get the password confidentially emailed to me at a known working address.

So a few minutes ago I thought to myself, "Hey, isn't that Sportsfilter baseball fantasy league thing happening this weekend? I should go check on the exact time for that, right time zone, and make sure I'm all set to go when the big day happens". Turns out it happened a few hours ago. Ha ha ha... boy, don't I feel stupid. :( Folks, I got Carl Everett on my team, for god's sake. Carl Everett. Hoo boy...

Errors posting comments to FPP posts. Maybe it's just me, but I can't post a comment to a front page post. I can- obviously- post a fpp to the main page and the locker room, and can comment in the locker room, but not on the front page. Error inside...

Thought: based on this complaint at MeFi, should SpoFi have a rule against posting final scores/results in the FPP text itself when posting about to a recently completed game? Also: am I the very first to refer to this site as SpoFi, which is both a website and a delicious Italian dessert? Do I get some kind of royalties if SpoFi becomes the preferred short name? Discuss.

Could we change the background color on the main page? The blue on white is a bit jarring to the eyes, a bit too bright and stark, hard to read. As a suggestion, perhaps a background similar to the beige-y brown sand of a baseball diamond, and whatever font color goes best with that? I'll leave the particulars to the graphic designer types...
