For serious runners, the Running Times Radio podcast is fantastic. It's mostly interviews with elite athletes and coaches about training. They cover a really wide range of topics: recovery, masters runners, youth running, marathoning, miler training, etc.
Great thread idea!

BoKnows, I meant the amount of moves made during the playoffs. It's almost impossible to lose on any given week if you have quite a few more games than your opponent.
jbou, I agree that a large part of your winning the league was the Wade and Jamison pickups. I went back and looked, and you made five moves in the semifinals and four in the finals. That's not excessive, so my apologies - I should have looked a little closer before (metaphorically) opening my mouth. Congratulations.
Sorry for pissing in the water in a very friendly and competitive league. My bad.

Without trying to cause controversy, I felt the constant adding and dropping was not very sportsmanlike. Maybe we should switch to a roto format for next year? What's the skill in making sure you have fifteen more games than the other guy?

Thanks!

Thanks, BoKnows. We'll see. If I could re-do a few picks, I'd have taken Nash instead of Deron Williams and gone for someone with more upside (and fewer sprained ankles) than Shane Battier.
After the draft, I'd say Flying Elbows and Spacemen have to be the favorites.

One suggestion: move or get rid of the left column. Before there was a very clear hierarchy and flow to a discussion, with all the crap out of the way and the focus on the comments. Now it feels like the comments are being squeezed between meta data and ads.
For functionality, please bring back the multiple previews and the ability to see all the preceding comments on the preview.
And last, Thank You!

Gotta love Gilbert Arenas: Fantasy Basketball Season Approaching You know, I never play Fantasy Basketball but I always hear a lot about it. The ball boys in every city are like, “Hey Gil. So, how do you feel tonight? Because I have you on my fantasy team …” I’m like, “Yeah … I feel good … What do you win if I do well? Are we splitting it 50-50? If we are then I’ll go out and score 40!” One time a kid was yelling from the stands, “I need you to score two more points! Two more points! Two more points!” So I was like, “OK, here goes your two!” and I let it fly. I just love Fantasy because it brings fun back into sports. NBA.com has me ranked as the No. 1 fantasy point guard. That’s what I’m talking about. Showing the love. My swagger got me No. 1. It wasn’t my actual basketball skills, it was my swag. Steve Nash’s swag is not like mine. He may throw them dimes, but I throw the one-liner. Nash, Kidd, Chris Paul and Deron Williams round out the top five. That’s a great list to have behind me. Those guys deserve to be back there. That’s nice. Ha.

Most people prefer the fresh start every week and trash-talking aspects of the H2H league. Some prefer the classic roto format, where you've got 82 games to adjust your team's balance and make up point in weak categories. Your choice, or join both. I didn't think of it that way, but yes, Amir would have won the league for you. Ouch. Chris Webber (who I benched for the first time since I traded for him) didn't play, which gave Amir lots of playing time. With it this close, if any one of our last day moves were different, you would have won.
posted by dusted at 01:18 PM on April 19
Wow. I expected it to be close, but not this close. Great job, smithers - with all your stars quitting on you, you still almost won. First off, I'd like to thank Kevin Garnett for taking an early vacation on smithers - I couldn't have won without that, buddy. Second, I'd like to thank Joe Smith for having a great game, going 11-17, scoring 26 points. I subbed Smith for Jason Hart at the last second, and Hart went 0-6 and didn't score a single point. Just dumb luck: Smith hadn't scored 20 points all year.

No problem with the strategy, as long as we're both using it (and we are). This is the first day in a week you're ahead in the matchup... not good timing for me. I seriously doubt Gerald Wallace will play more than a couple of minutes Wednesday, but what am I going to do - bench him?

Should SportsFilter Think of the Children?
You say "I will council my son to realize that not all are as well educated as he is" and "He led by example" followed by "i could care less how long you have been on here."
That's the crux: you could care less, but expect us to care greatly about your concerns, and you insult us in the meantime!
I grew up in a fundamental Christian environment, surrounded by Christians of all kinds. There were good, humble people trying to live their own lives well, and there were the people obsessed over the minor sins of others. I'm just guessing, but from what little I've read of your comments here, you fit into the latter group. You need to take a good look inward and see what you're actually teaching your son with your example.
Peace.
