I usually just lurk around the site, talking myself out of commenting in anger, so I'm in favor of a +1 or Like button. There are some great FPPs and comments here.
This is something that only 'logged in' users could use? That would keep it pretty clean, yes?

BoKnows did that FPP .
I did post that FPP. But I know I'm not guilty of 'constant updates on the state and welfare of minor league hockey in Canada'.
Plus, the CHL is based in the US.
I don't think Weedy was referring to me.

I'm guilty of posting FPPs that walk the line of worthiness. (In this case is was my FPP that stoked this fire.) Now (since The Huddle), I'm never sure how to determine what is and what is not a legitimate FPP, similar to justgary's position I guess. The end result for me is to usually not post anything at all.
No offense to those of you who have the time to research and post "worthy" FPPs, but I just don't have that kind of time. Nor do I have the time to read an FPP and then deem myself "worthy" enough to know where others interests lie.

I also received cds from bender. Based on track lists, these are going directly into rotation. Thanks.

I haven't heard anything from Jamey, owlhouse. I'm hoping that because the cds mailed to him haven't been returned, that he is either enjoying the mixes or will have a nice surprise when he gets home.
posted by BoKnows at 01:48 PM on April 28
I can confirm that cds have been sent from myself, YYM, owlhouse and cjets. And, ummm, that's only half of those that signed up. So, bender, MrFrisby, boredom_08 and yzelda, have you sent your cds?

I apologize for the delay. Unfortunately, we have had a death in the family and I will be spending much of the coming week(s)? traveling and arranging funeral services.
Is there another member of the swap willing to set up the groups, pretty much take over from here on out? I will be at the computer tonight, but will have limited access starting tomorrow. Please reply here, I will check this thread every so often this evening.

I emailed rcade recently when I couldn't add my email addy back to my profile to accommodate the CD Swap. The system would not let me add it to the specific email location, but it did let me add it to the html dealyobob thingy. I didn't see any error messages though.

Cool, thanks bender....info received. That gives us 2 groups of four with the Folkways option.
Sign up deadline in just a couple days!
posted by BoKnows at 12:12 AM on February 13
Thanks Mrfrisby, info received. For those keeping score, that is seven including myself. One more would be great to even things out, but 13 more would be ideal in order to change things up a bit.
Out of 17,000+ members, I'm a little surprised at the lack of participants. I realize most of those 17,000 are inactive or banned, but there are quite a few regulars I'd love to see included. Keep in mind that there really are no requirements here. No specific genres, nor CD length. Cover art is not necessary. You would be completely free to do whatever you want, pack them in some manila envelopes and spend a few bucks at the post office. You can even have your CDs burning while perusing this site. You could be done in an hour.
Last year, I sent a two-disc set. The first was a sort of history of hip hop, including everything from funk to rap and featured groups like The Beastie Boys, Michael Jackson, and Eerth Wind and Fire. The second was a technotronic/electronica/club rave mix. Two years ago, I just did a one-disc favorites kind of thing. I have received everything under the sun and continue to listen to them to this day.
(terrapin - your CDs from the 2008 swap were magnificent and they still are very much in rotation and haven't left my daily vehicle.)
I hope more of you decide to join.
Again, the deadline for signing up is Feb 15th!!!!
posted by BoKnows at 11:19 PM on January 28
Well, I'll send each of you Folkways mailing addy (hope it's current), and if you want to oblige, you can.
It would be great to get at least a few more participants this year. Dead media or not, getting a new CD and sharing your favorites is still fun. The cds certainly make my daily commute more enjoyable.
I'm guessing next year we could just do a digital download swap. A DDswap as it were. Although, some people may be disappointed in the music, as they were expecting a mythical figurine or 12 sided dice. Oh well, we can clear all that up in due time.

Although I prefer to not look back at my first 1000 or so comments. I sounded pretty damn stupid in some most of them.
I feel as though I am setting a new standard for stupid comments. Maybe I'll go for 2000. They just sound so good prior to typing them, then boom, a whole paragraph of stupid.
This party is stupid and I'm not having any cake.

I have received mailing addys for owlhouse, cjets, and boredom_08 so far.
Go ahead and start working on your tracks!!
A thought, Spofi member folkways has been very much involved in the CD Swap in years past. This year, since he appears to not have an internet connection available, I thought some (or all) of us could burn an extra copy of our mixes and send them his way. What do you guys think?
posted by BoKnows at 11:50 PM on January 21
Okay, for those interested I will need your mailing address. (NoMich, Owlhouse, boredom_08 and YYM, that includes you too, I do not have last years info saved as previously stated.)
Please email me at the addy posted in my profile. Include:
Your name, your Spofi alias and your complete mailing address.
(Also, as is noted each year, there may be a little extra postage needed for some members, as this is a global website. If you cannot (or don't want to) pay for the extra postage, please let me know in the email so I can group accordingly.)
posted by BoKnows at 08:15 PM on January 19
Well, that's four so far including me. I'm up for another year of course. So that makes for at least one small group.
How about we make a sign up deadline of Feb 15th, (One month after Lockerroom post), after which the groups will be determined and mailing deadlines will be set.
Owlhouse, NoMich and boredom_08 - if you're in for sure, feel free to get a leg up on the dozens (please?) of members that will sign up within the next few weeks. I'm pretty sure I have all your info from last year saved somewhere in this computer. So let me know if you have moved.

Seems we probably won't be reviving the Puckathon this year.
Agree with NoMich, hockey is alive and in need of a Puckathon.
As far as the season is concerned, I'm hoping St. Louis continues where they left off last regular season. They had a second half record of 25-9-7 and were only stopped by Loungo's ridiculously good goal-tending in the first round. Finally, the Blues seem to have a solid 1-2 punch in net. Eric Johnson will return after his "golf cart accident" caused him to miss the entire last year. Along with youngsters Oshie, Bergland, Perron and Johnson, the Blues have five other prospects we could see this year: Alex Pietrangelo, Ian Cole, Lars Eller, Ben Bishop and Phillip McRae.
While it's been tough to be a Blues fan in recent years. The rebuilding process seems to have been very much a success and the results (6th seed in the West last year) are apparent. I hope to see it continue.
Mr. T, I'm sorry to tell you that you have no chance.

There is no question that the wrestling entertainment industry requires well-trained athletes. But because of the usual predetermined outcome, I don't see it as "sport".
Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determinant of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports (a common name for some card games and board games with little to no element of chance) and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors.
I do enjoy watching it though, and was raised watching the WWF every Sunday morning, so I'm not a wrestling basher by any means. I will continue to watch and be entertained by the WWE, TNA, etc... but I will never confuse it with reality.

posted by BoKnows at 03:11 PM on May 12
I, for one, would use it. I don't recall any negative reaction/comments about it. I view it as a good way to provide a little extra back story without creating a super long FPP. Thanks for the consideration. Anyone disagree?
posted by BoKnows at 07:36 PM on April 30
rcade, your post of the Shani Davis incident is an example of the ability I am asking about. Is there no character limit on a FPP? If there isn't, how does the format decide what amount of text remains hidden until opening the thread?

The Sidelines also should be condensed. The Jersey Swap, stickers, fantasy sports, etc... all are threads that have been closed for some time now. How about using the sidelines for links to baseball-reference, hockey database and such or just keeping it updated with the current fantasy sport rankings, confidence pools, etc...
...Or, having a Sportsfilter poll type sideline. Favorite team, best mascot, then all those results can be transferred to the wiki as a 'sign of the times' type page.

Yes, please no Mefi link. Cut the cord, already. I say that only because my last few visits to Mefi ended in my complete frustration after reading 150 comments and trying to pick out the 10% that were legitimately tied to the thread at all. Spofi seems to have the opposite ratio, lets keep it that way. (Do the mods/admins edit anything there?)
The wiki link is cool, now I can delete a bookmark :)...terrapin, I have routinely added to the fantasy sports results page, and will continue to do so, but yeah, I'd like to see more new additions there as well. Maybe put pictures of nekkid girls or something? That may attract a few more:)
As far as additional links...How about a rotating through members' blogs? Or the current fantasy results? Member of the week? Most commented thread? Terrapin's interview? (please rcade find that and all will be good - at least in VT)
Anyway, all out of ideas for now, just trying to help.
