Alright, I joined up: Afx Argonauts. I reeeally don't follow football as much as I used to, and most of the players on offer were a total mystery to me. But I'll give it a go. (Got my excuses in early.)

apoch: afx, I'm a little surprised you didn't take Rasmussen for the King of the Mountains. The man has dominated that competition the last two years. I wouldn't start gloating yet, there are still a lot of stages to be raced. Rasmussen... hmm. In hindsight, I guess it was an obvious pick, but I'm not a particularly big fan of his so I left him out. I'm surprised he's going this well so soon, though. In the previous two years he lost stacks of time in the opening mountain stages and then made his move for the KOM when he knew the GC guys wouldn't chase him. I'm happy that one of my climbers Mayo is back on form, and although Igor Anton hasn't done anything yet, I hope he'll find his legs when he gets to the Pyrenees (his home territory). I don't think Rasmussen can win the Tour either. 110 kilometres of time trial still to come, and who remembers his effort in 2005? qbert72: The Guardian sold me John Gadret as a formidable climber. He's finished all mountain stages in the pack so far. What gives, Guardian? Typical French rider. Has one good race (Giro '06) and is subsequently trumpeted to hell as the salvation of French cycling. In truth, he's not even a road racer, he's a cyclocross rider. Fat Buddha: I saw an interview with Leipheimer yesterday where he said he will be making his big move in the Pyrenees. Haha, and I'm a monkey's uncle. When has Leipheimer EVER made a move anywhere? He's a follower, not an attacker, and right now not even the best rider in his team (see Alberto Contador on the Galibier today?).

Many thanks qbert. And yes, it is far too complicated! But hey, at least I'm winning.

The best (free) site I could find is at Velogames. You get 100 credits to pick a team of nine riders, including 2 all-rounders (yellow jersey candidates), 2 climbers, a sprinter, 3 domestiques and a wildcard. Once you pick your team, that's it, there are no transfers and they all score points based on their performance throughout the 3 weeks. - Detailed run-down of the rules and the scoring system. Sign up here if you're interested. On the front page of the site, it says there will be mini-leagues implemented before the race starts, so maybe you could post your team name here for the time being. Then I can add us all to a Spofi league once it's activated. CLOSING DATE: SATURDAY 1300 CET FYI: Velonews Tour site BBC cycling coverage Guardian site with rider/team guide

Oh and £100 is the cheapest ticket on sale. It's even more if you actually want to see the match.

Judging by a TV report I saw on BBC Wales' Scrum V a few days ago, the rugby world cup may be heading the same way as the cricket one. Empty seats, excessive length, exorbitant prices etc... Over £100 for a ticket to watch Wales v Japan in Cardiff. Unbelievable.

Cyclingnews.com always starts plugging their fantasy Tour contest around mid-June. They charge a few euros to enter, but you could always just steal their points system and organise it amongst yourselves.

I had no idea Canada had a cricket team. Worryingly, neither did the person who wrote that player guide, because all the Canadians appear to be Scots! (I'll pick my players tomorrow.)

Kickers: Generally the outside-half, but not always. Ireland: Ronan O'Gara Wales: Stephen Jones most of the time, but Gavin Henson if the kick is from distance. Scotland: Chris Paterson Italy: Ramiro Pez England: Heh, well, who knows? Is Hodgson still in the squad? Goode? Wilkinson?!? France: Dimitri Yachvili is usually first choice, but last year Jean-Baptiste Élissalde also kicked quite a lot. Someone please correct any of these... Now that I have highlighted them, they will no doubt get dropped or horribly injured.

Okay, I'm in. It can't be any more embarrassing than the Ashes contest. Can it?! I could really do with a new 32" HDTV. And Land Rover. But not so much the relaxing swim in an Icelandic volcano.

Damn. A non-mover. I think I'm headed downwards pretty soon once that dickhead Geraint Jones gets dropped.

God, that was actually painful to watch. The bit that summed it up for me was the look on Flintoff's face near the end when he had bowled five dot balls in a row and then Pieterson pointlessly overthrew for a frickin' seven. As for my score... well, er, that's pretty painful too.

Speaking as someone who is in a wheelchair, I say: SIT THE HELL DOWN! Actually, I think you should just use your common sense and look around to see what everyone else is doing. Don't stand up if the people behind you are sitting down. And stadium designers should pay more attention to wheelchair sections. Some stadiums have them at the front, with no seats ahead of them, but some have them higher up in the middle of the stand. Invariably, that means the person in front jumps up whenever something exciting happens, and I can't see the damn thing I just paid £40 to see. It's fairly annoying.

Fat Buddha: England, Wales, Ireland and Papua New Guinea 0 LOL. Just out of interest, who's the Irish person? owlhouse: What about South Africa, Fat Buddha? You even picked one of them :-). Two! Strauss *and* Pieterson. And if we're being thorough, we may as well add Zimbabwe for the coach.

Nice, I'll give it a go. England picks: Freddie Flintoff & Geraint Jones (the wicket keeper counts for catches, right?). Aussie picks: Matthew Hayden & Glenn McGrath. Series score: Australia, 2 - 1.

Last summer I thoroughly enjoyed "French Revolutions: Cycling the Tour de France" by Tim Moore. It's about a regular joe who decides to ride the entire route of the Tour, and is extremely funny in some places, as well as providing some good historical background on the race and all the legends that surround it.

In soccer, I'd say most outfield players peak around the ages of 27 - 29. Goalkeepers, however, tend to get better as they get older, and it's not uncommon to see goalies hit their best in their early to mid-thirties.

I hated the original Fever Pitch (about an Arsenal fan), so I don't think I'll be first in the queue to see a remake. And Nick Hornby is not unknown for switching locations for his movie adaptations. High Fidelity was moved from the UK to the US too.

Why did you get kicked from Wikipedia, squealy? I find them useful, but I've never really given any thought to contributing to one. I didn't even know a spofi one existed. Wouldn't it make more sense for it to be at sportsfilter.com/wiki as smithers suggests? Or even wiki.sportsfilter.com, whatever...

Second vote for the Tour de France. On one of the Pyranean mountain stages, at the top of a climb, with thousands of fans, and the riders going over the top one by one because they're all knackered and the peloton has exploded. Never done it myself, but it looks awesome.
