CFL Pick 'Em, Division Finals Edition

Out West, Calgary silences Arkee Whitlock and holds off the Edmonton comeback to make their way back to the division final. Back East, it was vintage Casey Printers who showed up: despite Hamilton's dramatic last-minute comeback to tie, Printers threw the last of his 360 passing yards to seal the deal in overtime.

In kicking news, veteran kicker Paul McCallum leads the pack with 16 points.

Division Finals

B.C. @ Montreal (Sunday, November 22)
All the numbers point Montreal's way. They piled up fifteen wins this season (SEVEN more than the Lions), they're dominant at home, they scored the most points in the league while allowing the fewest, and they haven't lost a big game at the Big O since... well, forget that last point. But despite their sheer awesomeness, they know that the Lions always play them tough, and Casey Printers just came off a monster game. Are the Lions a sexy underdog pick this weekend?

Calgary @ Saskatchewan (Sunday, November 22)
Like you thought it would be any different. These two titans have danced around each other for the last three months, and now the last song is startin' up. Both teams put together a 10-7-1 record, with that one tie coming against each other, of course. Both teams scored exactly 514 points. Calagary allowed 41 fewer points, if you're counting, but Taylor Field is the ultimate home-field advantage. I don't envy anyone for having to pick a winner here.

Offensive Bonus
Pick the quarterback that will accrue the highest passing yardage. For your reference: 2009 Passing Leaders

Defensive Bonus

Good luck!

CFL Pick 'Em, Division Semi-Finals Edition

B.C. Lions (8-10) @ Hamilton Tigers-Cats (9-9) (Sunday, November 15)
B.C. faces a tough task heading into Hamilton. While the Tiger-Cats are not necessarily world-beaters just yet, they do face a Lions team that's lost its past two games. Casey Printers will play for B.C.—while he has yet to make a serious showing in his latest comeback, he's capable of putting together a complete game at any time. On the other sideline, Kevin Glenn looks to continue his own renaissance and do the impossible in Hamilton: win a playoff game.

Edmonton Eskimos (9-9) @ Calgary Stampeders (10-7-1) (Sunday, November 15)
Another coin toss: both teams had serious bouts of inconsistency over the regular season. Edmonton will be fine if Arkee Whitlock has another big game, and keeps the rush away from Ricky Ray. Calgary can dominate if Henry Burris gets on the same page as his deep receiving corps. Calgary may get a slight home edge, but don't count out the fans decked out in green & gold who make the big trip south.

The Bonus
Pick the kicker who will score the most points for his team. Official 2009 kicking stats.

Casey gets hurt and Arkee runs away with an Edmonton victory over the Lions. Toronto offers no surprises to close out their 3-win season. Saskatchewan comes on strong at home to clinch the team's first division title since the Stone Age. And it's Bad Michael Bishop who shows up on Sunday and can't get anything going against the Tiger-Cats, as Winnipeg is eliminated by the cross-over.

Okay, it's not actually a run-off. I just calculated the average points scored in the week(s) that each player missed, and added them to their total. This gives us the best guess at what the scores would've been had they picked every week.

Based on actual math, the Costanza goes to a very deserving Ying Yang Mafia. Congratulations!

The plucky underdog Yankees surprise everyone and beat the Philles in six, with Matsui taking the MVP. Starting pitchers averaged 96.9 pitches a game, just squeaking under the wire.

Jeffwa gets the winner, series length, and the PWC bonus for a key three points to take the title.

At the other end, boredom_08 picks in all rounds except the one-game playoff, and even if we gave him those two points, he'd still win the Costanza by at least 314 feet.

WEEK 19

Edmonton @ B.C. (Friday, November 6) The winner of this game clinches a playoff spot, and the loser risks total elimination. It doesn't get any better than this.

Montreal @ Toronto (Saturday, November 7) Tough to say, but chances are good that Montreal plays their starters. They have a first-round bye, and rust is a playoff team's worst enemy. Maybe next year, Little Stevie Reaves. Maybe next year.

Calgary @ Saskatchewan (Saturday, November 7) How about this one? These two teams were 1-1-1 head-to-head this season, with Calgry outscoring Saskatchewan by single touchdown. It's a coin toss if I've seen one. Did I mention that the winner clinches the division title, and the first-round bye?

Hamilton @ Winnipeg (Saturday, November 8) Another compelling match-up: if Hamilton wins, they clinch a home playoff game, and Winnipeg will be eliminated by a crossover from the West. But if Winnipeg wins, they take the season series 3-1 to break the tie for second and host a home playoff game themselves. Want to call this one? I sure don't.

Good luck!

WEEK 18

Toronto @ Edmonton (Friday, October 30) Toronto's way out of it, but teams that have the least to lost can often be the most dangerous, and Little Stevie Reaves is playing for a spot next year. Will Edmonton get it together in time?

Saskatchewan @ Hamilton (Saturday, October 31) Back in June, would you have believed me if I'd told you that both Saskatchewan and Hamilton would be battling for a home playoff game? No. No, you would not have.

Calgary @ B.C. (Saturday, October 31) B.C. needs one more win to clinch a playoff spot, but Calgary's still playing for the division crown. With Casey Printers back at home, this is definitely the game of the week.

Winnipeg @ Montreal (Saturday, November 1) Winnipeg's still in the hunt for that playoff home game, but it all depends on whether Calvillo will play. You might want to wait for the news bulletin on this one.

Do the stats from this game count towards the regular season, playoffs, or nothing?

Anyone who has the initiative to perform an ounce of research is welcome to prove me wrong, but I believe this game counts as the 163rd of the regular season.

WEEK 14

Edmonton @ Winnipeg (Friday, October 2) Edmonton's just lost two games by a total of seven points. They're going to be an angry bunch come Friday. Don't bet little Jenny's medication on the Blue Bombers.

Saskatchewan @ B.C. (Friday, October 2) In the other corner, Saskatchewan just won two games by the skin of their teeth. They could just as easily have the same 5-7 record as B.C., and B.C. Place always plays tough for visitors.

Montreal @ Toronto (Saturday, October 3) Now that the Alouettes have clinched a playoff berth, maybe they'll rest their starters. That's really Toronto's only hope.

Hamilton @ Calgary (Saturday, October 3) Hamilton experienced a rude wake-up call last week, but I'm not sure that we've seen the last of them yet.

Good luck!

Montreal @ Hamilton (Friday, September 25) While Montreal is 9-2, they have been looking just a little tired lately. Is Hamilton hot enough to knock them off?

B.C. @ Calgary (Friday, September 25) Calgary's gotta get the edge at home, but maybe not by much. The post-bye B.C. Lions have looked pretty good.

Saskatchewan @ Edmonton (Saturday, September 26) Edmonton will be looking to sweep the home and home, and the betting lines probably will be too.

Toronto @ Winnipeg (Saturday, September 26) Back-to-back wins have been tough to come by in Toronto, but who better to try it against than Winnipeg?

Winnipeg @ Montreal (Sunday, September 20) Losing by 45 is tough. Losing by 45 and then going to play in Montreal is even tougher.

Hamilton @ Toronto (Friday, September 11) Toronto's in very tough against a Hamilton team that's looked very good. I don't even want to know what the Pro-Line spread is for this game.

Winnipeg @ Saskatchewan (Sunday, September 6) The Bombers come to town, maybe with a new teammate. Taylor Field is a harsh welcome for any visiting newcomer. Take the Riders to cover.

Toronto @ Hamilton (Monday, September 7) The Labour Day Classic! Except that Hamilton is actually the favourite this time. Now THAT's classic.

Calgary @ Edmonton (Thursday, August 13) Calgary has been rolling, but Edmonton's two-game losing streak has featured a lot of tough luck. Give the Stamps a very slight edge at Commonwealth.
