SportsFilter Turns 8

Happy Birthday, Sportsfilter. Why, it seems like only yesterday that you were crapping your drawers and making us wipe your arse.

Seriously. Yesterday.

Should SportsFilter Think of the Children?

I beg to differ jg. The snootiest website is this.

And now I'm off to the fox hunt. Please have someone get the Bentley ready when we are finished.

Should SportsFilter Think of the Children?

I'm confused...is it still OK to say "fuck Gary Bettman"?

Certainly. It is not, however, OK to do it. For anyone.

Should SportsFilter Think of the Children?

kerrycindy, I think you miss the flavor and tone of what 'moj is getting at; specifically that many of the members have been here for years and have given this site a particular flavor and tone. I can tell you that by far this is hardly the worst offender of language you can find on the internet. I go to other sites that have language that even I have to shield my eyes from time to time. If you can read between the language you will find that there is a tremendous amount of great, intelligent people here who are quite entertaining writers. As this site was never intended to be kid or family friendly we have come here for the quality of discussion and the distinct personalities that each member of the group brings. As rcade has pointed out, there are tools that you can use to block and filter the language you find offensive. But it seems just a bit off-putting to come into a room where everybody has been having a long conversation and tell them that you don't like their language.

I don't post either. Too much work to look up all that info and report back. Plus I am a dumbfuck when it comes to making links work. Guess I'm more of an observer and snarker than an actual human being.

But I thin rcade is usually more than generous and patient with people who disagree. And like many web-site honchos, he can get heavy handed with the beat-downs. But I consider it his sandbox and he hasn't told me to leave. Even if he does like the Rangers.

Actually, bill, Gene Roddenberry was married to Majel Barrett who played nurse Chapel. Her character had a major crush on Mr. Spock that was to be unrequited. I see a theme here. It was rumored that Nichelle Nichols and Gene Roddenberry had a little fling during the series. She did get to kiss Kirk, although it was under the control of an alien race that could force people to do things against their will. Like get close to William Shatner's mouth.

Grace Lee Whitney was Yeoman Rand. She killed Spock's replacement in the first Star Trek movie.

Interestingly, I talk a lot of sports on the Trek site I blog on. I'll now be taping my glasses back together, thank you.

Sigh

I don't want to sound like I'm bitching again either, but I'm with grum on all but one point.

I can get my sports from any source. This was a place where I came to be informed and edified. It was also a place to crack wise and have fun with all the nifty features that this site allowed for expression. And the company is pretty OK. And because of that I will lurk and comment every now and again when I get time but I just don't see myself being as, I don't know, vocal (?) around here without the ease of use features returned.

I urge regulars like grum and some of the rest who may be staying away or who have left to stick it out. grum, I have learned a lot about baseball from your contributions, so don't give up.

But, yeah, maybe an update on the progress would be welcome. And do we get our numbers and all that jazz back?

Well that's just crazy talk. Playin' futbol with yer hands.

I propose the Wii boot. Wear 'em on yer feet and kick like a pro. Kickoffs in football, goals in futbol. PAT's and FG's on the gridiron, amazing passes & free kicks on the pitch.

And you could do wicked flying drop kicks on DOA just before you put the moves on the busty pixelated mamas.

I've been taking care of my wife, Tommy, and just haven't had the time to really get involved much. And in all honesty, I am not a fan of the site's "new look". I do come and read the articles and comments (just like Penthouse!) but I just sort of miss the really great user-friendly conveniences that the old ways had. There is a contingent of members here who are very computer literate, of which I am not one. In other words, I can't make it go the way I like. Sort of like I can drive a car but don't ask me to fix the transmission.

I'll just keep waiting to see how things turn out.

Guess I didn't get the memo

I welcome the enforcement of proper grammar, or at least decent communication skills. This is another reason that I enjoy coming to this site. In some ways, this site represents more than just sports. It's sometimes a celebration of communication in the short, written form. But teaching the lesson should be handled with a certain amount of grace and consideration for the person who may be struggling with it. If they choose to ignore or become abusive of someone or group of someones who has tried to be of assistance, then give them a tour of the guidelines once again (which ALL SpoFites should have to read and agree to before being allowed to comment). If they continue their beligerance, then let 'em have it.

That's just wonderful, owlhouse. Today in my little corner of the tropics, it rained, hailed and snowed. It snowed about 3 inches a day 4 days last week. It's been snowing since late October. My in-laws still have about 5 feet at their house. I'm preparing an expedition of my own to go to the liquor store and drink until the 4 nice days we are going to get in late July.
