Northwestern University football coach Randy Walker is dead.: He died last night of an apparent heart attack. Walker was 52 years old and was the second winningest coach in school history.

Mike Davis resigns as Indiana University basketball coach.: Most stories say the resignation will be effective at the end of the season, others say it will take effect immediately. IU has called a news conference at 3:30pm EST today. IU President Adam Herbert and AD Rick Greenspan will also be in attendance. Who's next for Indiana, and what's next for Davis?

Ricky isn't running anymore.: (Miami Herald link, registration required) In a shocker, Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has told the Miami Herald that he's retiring...one week before training camp begins. Between Ogunleye's holdout and now this, it's going to be a very, very rough season for the Dolphins.

Bob Knight is in trouble again.: This time he blew up at the chancellor of Texas Tech at a salad bar, after the chancellor complimented him on his recent behavior. Early reports said that Knight would be suspended for five days, but now that's not going to happen. Is anyone really surprised?

Cubs manager Don Baylor was fired today: in a move that surprised absolutely no one in Chicago. Iowa Cubs manager Bruce Kimm takes over as interim manager starting tomorrow. Team president Andy MacPhail also turned over GM responsibilities to Jim Hendry, who was director of player personnel. However, some people think that these moves don't solve the real problem with the team. (via Chicago Tribune, registration required)
