''It was a bachelor's party gone awry.'' Ah, those were the days... Bachelor party's are supposed to be loud and rambunctious. That's just the way it is. They were trying to have a good time, not trying to hurt anyone.

What a bummer. Lilja scores the only Red Wing goal, then turns it over in OT for the loss. Talk about your highs and lows. The Ducks were the more aggressive team most of the game, and their hard work paid off. Damn.

Anybody get the sense that the Ducks' OT goal in game two pretty much decided the series right there? I curse you, mkn. May you lose tremendously in any confidence pool for the next 1,000 years. The Wings are still probing their adversary for weaknesses. They will split the series in Anaheim, regain home ice and win the series in six.

I was thinking the same thing, bill. How are they going to get the NHL team together with the offseason transactions (i.e. trades, contracts, training camp)?

I love reading stories about the interaction between the heckler and the player. It brings a certain down-to-earth feel to the game. Kudos to Wells, and kudos to Raycher for working his craft.

"Looking back I think he already knew he was going somewhere else," Glasper says. That says a lot about O'Brien's integrity. A coach willing to risk a players' health for his own personal gain is selfish. I would have liked to hear O'Brien's side of this story, just to get both sides. Right now I just think he's a dick.

I'm sure Stewart is going to get a bunch of heat from this comment, but at least he had the balls to say it. Or rather, the temperament to. Usually they'll show the "debris" on the track when there is a caution flag, but I remember one incident last week when the tv cameras couldn't spot anything. I'm not a fan of the caution flag, because it can determine the ultimate outcome of a race. When there is "debris" on the track, make sure it's actual "debris" and not a little chunk of rubber.

What a slap in the face. I'm fine with America not giving a shit about hockey. It's a big thing here in Michigan (southern Canada) and that's all I care about. Don't burn bridges trying to build other ones.

The accentuation of his shot is pretty cool. Gordie is one of the nicest guys in hockey, and this is well deserved.

There are a couple of coaches on this list that really jump out at me. Being a Wings fan (really?) and seeing Babcocks name kinda dumbfounded me. I think that he has done a pretty good job keeping this team clicking. Dave Lewis, who is currently floundering in Boston, didn't seem to make a mark when he coached the Wings. He was more of a maintenance man than a coach. I honestly do not think that Lewis is head coach material. John Tortorella, on the other hand, is a good coach. I just think that he has worn out his welcome in Tampa Bay. I think that the players are starting to tune him out. Seeing Gretzky's name on this list tugged at my heart strings. I really wished that he would have stayed in the shadows and not coach. He knows this game inside and out, but I think that he's having a hard time translating his knowledge to his players.

The most shocking thing to me in that ad is that Frank didn't rupture an achilles going up those stairs. Classic! I was truly expecting the boy to fly out the window, and was surprised that he didn't. I know I've knocked my boy off of the bed in a pillow fight and he's fine, so what's the big deal? Lighten up, TBC.

Cheap shot, for sure. I'm all for laying the body, but don't try to cripple the guy. As far as the fight, awesome. Sorry, Drood, but that's old-time hockey. Peters missed the Gordie Howe Hat Trick by an assist. Emery's smirk was sweet, by the way. This reminds me of the old Wings-Avs fights of last decade.

My dogs are like family to me. I work a lot, so I feel better when they're home with my wife and kids. I know that they would protect my kids with their life. Plus, they're also great foot warmers when I'm sleeping. They never get mad at me, and think that I'm the greatest guy in the whole wide world. I love 'em. Laugh at me all you want, but I love 'em. Anyone who doesn't want to take responsibility enough to make sure their animal is fed and watered for months at a time is a son-of-a-bitch in my book. According to records obtained by KCRA 3 Investigates from Placer County Animal Control, Artest has repeatedly left his dogs unattended with no food for weeks at a time. If you can't take care of your dogs, give them to someone who will. The guy's an ass as far as I'm concerned.

Much of the discussion in the aftermath seems to be centering around why the Penguins haven't picked up a thug of their own to protect their kids. That's the problem with some of these players today. If they can't compete on the stars' level, then they start beating on him. I love a good fight, but not the cheap shots like the spearing and knee-on-knee hits that can really mess a player up. I can think of a couple of teams in the league (cough cough, Red Wings) that could use an enforcer on their team. But like you say, fraze, today's game doesn't favor those kind of players. It sucks, but they're a dying breed. There aren't too many Shanahan's and Iginla's left out there that can both score and fight. Awesome article, fraze.

Do you think the Packers would do better with Aaron Rodgers? I, for one, would like to find out. I love Mr. Fav-Ray, but I don't want to see him getting carted off the field. The Packers need to find out if Rodgers is their next quarterback. If he isn't, then they need to start checking out the draft. Brett is one of the best there ever was at the quarterback position, and I love watching his laser-like-finger-popping passes, but he's trying to hang on too long.

You are right, Fris. The international rinks are larger than NHL rinks. The exposure would be helpful for both sides of the ocean, I think. The international players would get their skills seen by many more NHL scouts, and us hockey fans would be able to check out the international flavor. I would really like to see the international players a lot more than once every four years or so.
posted by wingnut4life at 06:54 PM on January 27
I don't think that a players' loyalty would be torn between his NHL team and a European team.
I think that it would benifit the NHL and the EU teams, bringing international exposure to both sides. I just wonder what kind of trophy they would have for this. Would it be bigger and badder than Lord Stanley? Maybe not, but if this thing takes off (I really do see Bettman screwing this up somehow) the trophy would probably gain in stature as the years go by.

I like to consider myself an "avid" hockey fan. I can't afford going to a lot of games, because my wife won't let me put another mortgage on the house. I find it sad that I have to take out a small loan just to go to a game. That is my number one bitch -- the all-mighty dollar. The NHL is alienating its main fan-base, us! A large percentage of the seats in Joe Louis are bought up by businesses to cater to their customers. They have the money to do that. I don't. I'm tired of going to a game and being surrounded by "corporate seats." How can a working man like myself let loose and go crazy at one of the few games that I can afford, when there are snooty uninterested stiffs all around me?

That would be nice to see, MrFrisby. Although, when I'm watching footage of the 'before the mask' era, my face starts cramping. Those goalies had a lot of balls to do that sort of thing. As far as the change in the goalie equipment, I'm all for it as long as the goalie is still protected. With the technology we have today, I don't see that as a problem.
