Three words: Not Gonna Happen

The union would look weak if they allowed it to go through for a small amount. They represent a group of players, not just one. I agree they should just let him do it, but its probably not a can of worms they want to open. If they do, teams will start asking more players to take less money. As of right now, it hasnt happened so there is no precedent. But if one is set, the union looks weak.

Tiger Woods engaged to marry

I'm not sure what two months salary is for him, but its worth it for someone that looks like her. My lord.

Michigan-OSU is the best rivalry, hands down. Not only are they hated rivals, the game always seems to mean something for one team. Most of the time it's a Rose Bowl birth, or like last year or 1997, a shot at the National Championship. Something like 40 times in the 100 year history, one of these teams had a chance to go to the Rose Bowl, if they wont this game. That to me is amazing. Plus, both schools usually play with such class. I will give Army-Navy a nod as the second best rivalry. Great tradition, always great sights to see during the game and before, when the Cadets and Mid-Shipmen walk into the stadium, etc. But the game never means anything, and it hasnt for years.

American hockey fans! Get ready to watch the most widely-awaited game in years... oh. Perhaps not.

gspm said: "I am more interested in the heritage game" And that is the problem with hockey. You are more interested in a legends game, then you are in the current game. Hockey use to be included in the big 4 of sports. Baseball, football, basketball and hockey. With the explosion of NASCAR, hockey has been bumped out of the top 4. And some could argue, and are probably right, that golf is even more popular then hockey. If you dont think so, check out the ratings sometime for a major tournament and compare them to a Cup Final game. And I am not talking about in Canada. Canada means nothing, the money is in The United States. They can hardly support the teams they have. I am strictly talking about in the States.

Outdoor hockey is old news around here. We already did it last year, and drew a lot more people as well.

You're Out!

I imagine some of their reluctance to shut down stems from pitching. You will have 10-12 guys that make teams USA still pitching for those 2 weeks. And you will have 300 or so, other pitchers doing nothing for 2 weeks. Yeah they could throw on the side for 2 weeks but its not the same. And it takes time to get arms back into shape, even after 2 weeks off. Ok who am I kidding, Prince is right, its about money.

Barry or Dante

Az-Hakim played pretty decent after Vermeil left. His big thing is, he cant be the number 1 receiver. He was the #2 or #3 reciever in St Louis and when they brought him here to Detroit, he kind of fizzled out. Some guys just arent #1 guys.

A-Rod for MVP?

I think Texas could have been 23 games out of first place just fine without A-Rod, so how much value did he really bring his team? You could argue they would be even farther back without him, but last place is last place, regardless of how many games out you are. I would really like these awards to be re-named to the Most outstanding player award or something like that. As it is, any team not in contention, can not have a winner of the MVP IMO. Now if it was the most outstanding player, any one on any team could win it.

For the Tigers, historic disgrace now looks inevitable.

I disagree, they really need to go after a few veteran bats this winter. No they wont get a superstar slugger, but they have basically fielded a minor league team this year. You need to mix a blend of veterans and young players. If you just have young players, they have no one to learn from.

I have to nominate Mike Illitch for the Tigers and oddly enough, mention he is one of the best owners with the Red Wings.

Sosa ejected for cork in bat.

There is a Sammy Sosa bat sitting in the Hall OF Fame from the year he hit 62. I think it might be time to take that bat and open it up and see if anything is in it.

Posting the best record in the East sure doesn't pay the rent.

I keep hearing how Carlisle didnt play the rookies. Okur played extensive minutes during the regular season and Prince was given the starting job early in the season. After playing horrible offense and even worse defense, and losing all five games he started, he was yanked. What more could the man do? He gave them their shot, Prince just didnt capatilize on it. And after seeing Prince shoot around 28% and just play awful in the Eastern Conference Finals, I tend to think Rick was right on about his decision.

I think the netting behind home plate should be extended out past each dugout. This will take care of those hot shot line drives into stands. After the dugout provides enough time for people to react to the ball. I agree fans should pay attention, but that is probably not going to happen with crowds anywhere from 10,000-40,000 people. The extended netting would protect that many more people and protect the club from costly court battles.

Webber done for the season.

I think until someone beats the Lakers, you have to condisder them the favorites, even with their current injury problem. Give me Shaq, Kobe, and 3 stiffs and I will take my chances in this mans NBA. I am going with my Pistions out of the east. They look tough and hungry after that horrible Orlando series. As long as Billups can recover from his ankle injury they should be ok.

Jordan Fired By Wizards!

I dont know why it is, but usually great athletes dont translate into great management. There are a few exceptions of course. Larry Bird did well with Indiana as is Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars is doing an amazing job as the Pistions GM. All three will be hall of fame members. Jordan was fired because he did an awful job. The mess they are in now is all his doing. And he ran the team, while living mostly in Chicago. Not to mention he has ben talking to other teams for ownership chances. So its no shock he got canned.
