I don't see anything wrong with Lincecum toking up a little bit of burn. He got cited, may pay a fine and will move on from there. MLB has every right to fine and/or suspend him if they choose to but I find that highly (no pun intended) doubtful.
I don't think they can suspend him on the citation alone. But marijuana is listed as a drug of abuse by MLB. He will now most likely be subjected to testing for it. If he fails that test then they can suspend him.

I'd bet that there are just as many poor and unemployed Yankee FANS as there are fans of any other team. And for these fans, the win was a brief bit of good news.
I took one of my unemployed friends to the game last night. It's more than a brief bit of good news for him. Now we have some fodder when we invade Philly in January for the MLS draft.
How cold was it last night? I saw the game, but there was no sound, and I never got the impression it was cold out.
Low to mid 40s I think. But at times it felt colder than that.

He's done it once in these playoffs, and in that case it was literally just one bad inning (the 1st) and one bad reliever (Hughes).
Actually AJ was on regular rest for that game due to an off day before game 5.

That two base steal by Damon was fun!
I nearly cried I was laughing so hard.
For all the shit the Yankees FO gets (and much of it deservedly so), I have to hand it to them for opening up Yankee Stadium for a couple of the away games this post-season. It was awesome to see several thousand die-hards there last night, many of whom would never have a chance to go to a World Series game.

Plus, I tend to think that an umpire shouldn't use the players' reactions as the basis for a call.
True. I'm not nearly as pissed about it as I was last night. Once I got home and saw the replays I saw that it wasn't an easy call to make. I was glad to see that the umpires had a conference about it instead of just letting it go.

I think Howard got it on the hop, but even in the replay it's hard to tell with total confidence.
Yeah, it's tough to tell on the replay. But I would think that Howard would know if he caught it on a hop or not. So why would he throw to second if he caught it on a fly? All he had to do was step on first.
Edit: what pmf said.

From the looks of that car, Davies and the other passenger are extremely lucky to be alive.
I can't imagine how fast you need to be going to split a vehicle in half like that.
If any other SpoFites happen to be going to the game tomorrow, there's going to be a salute to Davies in the 9th minute. It's sure to be an emotional night.

Press release from USSF. It's also been confirmed that neither Davies or Roberta was the driver.
It's a shame this woman's death will be overshadowed by speculation about what this means for Davis' career, what he was doing out that late on a night the team seems to have had a curfew, etc. (And that's not to piss on any such speculation that ultimately makes it into this thread (this is, after all, a sports site), just a tragedy that someone lost a daughter/sister/etc.)
That's probably true from a media standpoint. This would probably just be local news if Davies wasn't in that car. For what's it's worth though, many of posters on soccer sites I frequent, twitter, etc. make note of Ashley and the other woman involved.

Also no word yet on what Davies is having surgery on. One source says it's possibly career threatening. Others have said the injuries are minor.

Whew. Got nervous there for a second. I knew there was a thread about the lack of TV coverage but thankfully I see it was absorbed by this thread. I'm drunk, but I didn't think I was that drunk.
The MSG viewing was fantastic. My friends in tricorn hats were getting strange looks from a guy in full Ace Frehley makeup (KISS was playing the arena tonight). Decent amount of Honduran fans there, but everything remained civil. Except of course for the lone Mexico fan who decided to start shit with a member of our group. I'm just glad I can enjoy the game in DC on Wednesday without worrying about us qualifying.

Just a shame I had to watch this on tape delay. You'd think they'd at least make sure viewers in the NY and LA markets would have an easier time watching the game live.

If I'm not mistaken those games are often filled with Mexican supporters to a point where it feels like a road game for the US side. Do the Mexican fans chuck rocks and urine and vomit at those games?
No, they don't chuck rocks or vomit here (not that I'm aware of anyway). But at the Gold Cup game at Giants Stadium there were objects thrown at us as we marched in. And even more stuff was thrown during the game. It may not have been rocks or vomit, but I can't imagine getting hit with a half-full bottle of Gatorade that was thrown from the upper deck is much fun. Sure, it wasn't nearly as bad as Azteca, but this behavior is not exclusive to games taking place in Mexico.

Oh really? Aren't you the guy who fueled this fire?
I don't think Landon fueled the fire. Not with the more vocal supporters anyway. I highly doubt the book had any sway with LA Riot Sqaud (the group that was doing most of the booing and whatnot).
Major props to LARS for pulling this off. Last Thursday, we (ESC) threw fake money at Becks in addition to songs, chants, and boos. We got some smirks and a few crotch grabs in our general direction. He brushed it off after the game which I fully expected. But obviously hearing it from his home fans touched a nerve.
And I just found out that the guy who was detained won our prestigious Drunk of the Week award at MLS Cup last year. Awesome.

Are you sure? I haven't been to Fenway in decades, but they're sold all over Boston. Honestly, I doubt there's a ban at Yankee Stadium because no one cares about that crap here.
About Yankee Stadium? Yeah, I am sure. Since the late 90s I've seen people turned away at the gates for wearing Boston Sucks shirts. They either had to put another shirt on over it or turn it inside out. However, if you manage to get past security with it you probably won't have a problem inside.
As for Fenway, like I said, I thought they had a similar policy. I seem to remember a similar thread floating around a year or 2 ago.

The point is, it wasn't steroids that he was suspended for.
That's not much of a point. What they found in his system was a synthetic steroid. They discovered the item on the banned list (hCG) after he was found to have elevated testosterone levels. So, yeah, technically he's banned because of the hCG evidence, but they would have never found out about it unless he first tested positive for a synthetic steroid. And they probably could have nailed him just on the testing alone. The hCG just solidified their case.
posted by goddam at 05:18 PM on May 13
So apparently he tested positive for a synthetic steroid and they found the hCG prescription after going through medical records.

Wallace wears a visored helmet, and in a gesture of fairness, for which he received much positive comment, he removed it.
There's actually a rule about visors and fights. But the player has to be tagged as an instigator first.
Face Protection - If a player penalized as an instigator of an altercation is wearing a face shield (including a goalkeeper), he shall be assessed an additional unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Should the player (including a goalkeeper) who instigates the fight be wearing a face shield, but removes it before instigating the altercation, the additional unsportsmanlike conduct penalty shall not apply.

In the interest of full disclosure, what you mean is, "The free seats I take advantage of may no longer be available to me," right?
That's not always case. My friend knows someone whose family has had tickets since the Polo Grounds days. These tickets have been passed down through the generations. Now this guy has control of them. And over the years he has been able to work his way into some pretty good seats at the current stadium. Granted they're not cheap seats but it's something he can comfortably afford. Now he's faced with $20,000 PSLs per seat (he has 4 of them). It's not like he has 60 grand just laying around. So he may very well have to give up those seats that have been in his family for decades.

Giants ace Lincecum cited for marijuana possession
Getting caught with a misdemeanor amount of weed shouldn't even be news, and it certainly shouldn't trigger any kind of testing or suspension for Lincecum.
Not saying I agree with it. But I wouldn't be surprised if MLB does test him.
