Blue Jackets hire Hitchcock as coach

After being fired from Philly, I figured we'd be seeing him back next season in the Western League coaching major junior again. Shows what I know, huh?

NFL Fans, Your Silence is Appreciated

you mokes say play the game, but you don't want them to be able to play the game if they're on your field, is that it? I guess it may seem that way, but on the other hand, every team plays half of their schedule on the road. I think what's disappointing is that rule changes that take out fan participation, override referee's calls, etc., always end up alienating a certain number of fans. Seems like it won't be long before staduims will be filled with paying fans who will keep their mouths shut and bring their TV's so they can follow along.

Luongo traded for Bertuzzi

With the trading of Bertuzzi, the Canucks made both of the moves that I was thinking they'd make at the end of the regular season, along with the firing of Marc Crawford. Even without discussing the Steve Moore incident, Bertuzzi was a distraction and not playing at the level to which he was hyped. Vancouver can't afford to continue to hang on to him. They missed the playoffs with him. They're certainly capable of missing the playoffs without him. I think the Canucks are moving in the right direction.

Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup in Game 7

Considering he's been in that lineup twice, and both times was congratulating the other team, I can understand why he'd be bitter... Touche, grum! It would suck to be on the losing end of the line. I can understand, too. But I hope they never get rid of it. It really brings class to the sport.

Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup in Game 7

You nailed it on the head, tommytrump! Not too long ago, Kelly Hrudy on "Hockey Night in Canada" said that the handshake at the end of the series is the biggest waste of time because nobody has anything good to say to each other, anyway. I completely disagree with him and furthermore think he should count his blessings that he even knows what the experience feels like! Don't get me wrong, I DO like him.

Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup in Game 7

Heartfelt congratulations to Hurricanes fans everywhere! It was an awesome game seven. Edmonton made it a tremendous series and you have to give them so much credit for taking a number-eight seed to game seven. Both teams played with lots of heart and the 'Canes took their "Whatever It Takes" theme seriously, sacrificing the body to stop some solid Edmonton shots! MAN, I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

Said it before, now someone agrees.

It seems to me that it doesn't matter who you send to the Olympics, whether they are "amateur" or "professional" by definition. If the athletes aren't ready to leave their egos at home, work hard and make a TEAM out themselves, they're certainly capable of losing games. Even with teams full of NHLers, no team is a "sure thing". Canada and the U.S. have proven that.

How long will Broduer stay in New Jersey?

Hmm, well considering Brodeur signed a six-year deal, I'm guessing ... six years. I think so, too. There's no reason to believe that Brodeur won't be at the top of his game, even at 40! IMHO, goaltending has been a strong point for the Devils since the days of Sean Burke, whether they were contenders for the Cup or not. With this signing, I think it'll be that way for another six years. Like "gspm", I'm neither here nor there with the Devils, but you can't deny Marty's contribution to the game.
