As a homer, but realistic, Dodger fan I would like to think the Cub's really didn't choke ... but rather the Dodgers just made them look pretty bad. I think game 1, that was pretty much the case.
But in game 2 ... watching in real time, I honestly thought the Cubs were blowing the game on purpose. Those three errors should not have happened. They looked as if they didn't care. While I really doubt they threw the series, they played like something is going on, and it isn't pretty. I actually felt bad for Zambrano.
Game 3 ... aside from maybe two players, the Cubs looked like they didn't care.

At poker tonight, some dude was talking to his mom on his cell in the middle of a hand and his conversation included "hooking up" tomorrow with her. Obviously, that led to a few beer induced off-color jokes about this guy's mom while he was on the phone with her. As soon as he completed his call, he folded his phone, raised the pot, and in a serious tone said, "My mom is dying of cancer." Dude could have head butted me, punched me, or slashed my tires, but he chose to complete with a joke or the truth (we do not know). I guess there is a point in there somewhere. A little off topic, but that documentary about Zidane with the score by Mogwai was the nuts. Ok, enough poker references for one comment.

Tiger is just fun to watch. I also love seeing the emotion coming out of him and the other players. Do you think this is more a generation type of thing? I am Tiger's age and I do not see anything wrong with it from any player. I also think the idolization of the commentators is done for the ratings and sponsor aspect.

I think both sides are in the wrong ... adults fighting over a game that has made the kid feel worse than he already did. On the flip side, if that kid gets a hit, they win the game, and next thing you know he's on Good Morning America, ESPN, and whatever news outlet. Walking a batter is part of the game, and consequently, part of the instruction of the game, at every level of play.

Not to mention I am impressed at the length of these contracts (except for Furcal's). One year contracts give some great prospects another year to progress in the minors.

The Dodgers might keep Choi around if they do not sign Reggie Sanders to play left. It looks like Lofton is going to be signed to play center. If Sanders is signed, say goodbye to Choi if he tries to get too much in arbitration. The bigger question is Cesar Izturis and what they will do with him, especially if there are no injuries to the infield by the time he gets back. And I sincerely Damon or the Dodgers are interested in making a deal.

Both the LA Times and LA Daily News report Nomar at Dodger Stadium on Thursday. I'd rather see him in the OF than first. This is Choi's breakout year.

Also, so the FPP wasn't so big: This page lists some differences in baseball in Japan. * Games can end in a tie. In fact, some teams play for a tie. * Teams avoid humiliating opponents either by running up big scores in a game or by winning their league by an immodest number of games. * The baseball is slightly smaller. (my note: do you think this is how Ichiro sees the ball so well?) * Players are more loyal to their ball clubs. * Play is not as aggressive. * The strike zone is larger. * Games are limited to 4 hours or 15 innings, whichever occurs first. * Free-agent system is more restrictive. * Training is year round. And a little info behind some of the teams.

I like the three point line where it is and I like college basketball the way it is. The line itself isn't ruining the game. The only games that are ruined are by the coaches and players who choose to live or die by that line.

posted by jasonspaceman at 04:16 PM on April 03
Jason, despite the success of the team I don't see Rochester getting a franchise soon. Seattle is probably higher on the list and the league needs to get back in the Southeast. If Chivas USA is successful look for another Latin American team to take an expansion club in either Miami or Texas. you're right Bill, but a guy can still wish. Our new stadium should be up soon. I cannot wait for that.
