I don't think it's that big of a deal either, just disrespectful. Heck, I've seen plenty of americans being disrespectful of our own anthem. Is it really that hard to take your hat off and stand quietly for a few minutes?

Every game I went to (all in the US, and none against a Canadien team) they only played the US national anthem. The games in Canada that I have seen on TV, they played both. I always wondered why, I guess this explains it. "I'm Canadian; they're just booing the team, not the anthem,'' Patrick Marleau said. "That's how I took it.'' That's how I take it too, but I still think it was disrespectful.

From the article: Prior and others say evangelicals often drive a wedge between players on a team,... I have never heard of an athlete(s) being a problem in the lockerroom because they are being evangelical. I suppose though, like everything else, it has its good and bad sides. IMO christianity does promote good morals, but if there are players getting spots on teams* over someone else just because they are pretending to be be christians, well, that is just plain wrong. *Also from the article: In training camp, Prior adds, some marginal players vying for roster spots carry around their Bibles and attend religious services to impress management.

If Lindstrom does not win the Norris trophy I will lead a group to go to either New Jersey... If you are talking about Niedermeyer, he is in Anaheim now. And I'll be part of that group. I know Neidermeyer is better than what the +/- stat shows, but I think his nomination is more because of name recognition and past performance.

Did they read the description of Norris trophy when they selected the finalists? The James Norris Trophy is awarded annually "to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-around ability in the position," When you look at the stats the article shows, they all have good offensive numbers but Neidermeyer was only a +8 (ranked 46th). Doesn't sound like an all around ability to me. Of course, I could just be bitter.

Elias has been playing on both lines, but mostly with Langenbrunner and Brylin. If times get tough and the Devils really need a goal, Lou will put the E-G-G line back together. And yes, the Rangers were not at thier best. But I'm not buying into the 'Rangers were that bad', I prefer to think that the Devils were that good.
posted by njsk8r20 at 12:50 PM on May 03
The Devils lack of scoring depth will be exposed in this round. John Madden and Jamie Langenbrunner have found thier scoring touch. The Devils scored 17 goals in 4 games, with goals coming from 3 different lines. Besides scoring over 4 goals per game they also only allowed 1 goal against per game. The Canes will put up a good fight, I see all 6 games being won by only 1 goal, but the Devils will prevail. You hear me NoMich? It's on beeyatch! The Ottawa/Buffalo should be great one with probably 6 or 7 goals scored in each game. I see another Sabres team winning all of thier home games. They will have to steal one on the road to win the series, which they will, in game 7.

I thought the winner of the Buf-Phi series faced NJ. You have to excuse NoMich, he is assuming that the Canes will beat the Habs. If Montreal wins that series then they will face Ottawa and NJ will play the winner of the Buf/Phi series. Both game sixes are on tonight too, man, decisions decisions decisions.

My friends and I used to do that to each other in pickup games, but this was no pickup game and I don't think these guys were friends. I think Kaman showed a good deal of restraint. It was a dirty play though for a professional and Evans should receive some kind of penalty. Nothing major like a suspension, just a little monetary fine.

Well, I must admit the Predators have really grown on me, and since relocating, Nashville is the closest hockey city to me. I felt a little saddened as I left the arena, but I still had a great time. The place exploded when the Preds scored to cut the Sharks lead down to 2-1. It seemed like the Predators responded and really turned it on at the end. Too bad it was too little, too late. And btw, Joe Thornton looks a lot bigger in person. And about this Philly/Buffalo series, for the record I also picked it to go 7 games. But not to put all my eggs in one basket I gave the series to the Sabres in the pick'em but placed the Flyers higher in the confidence points.

Buffalo is up 3-0 in the 3rd period. The Flyers just had a powerplay but the Sabres had more scoring chances on it than the Flyers did. Apparently NBC thought the end wouldn't be worth watching and switched me to the Dallas/Colorado game, which is tied 2-2.

John Davidson said that the biggest success for the Rangers, was how they reconnected with the fans. The blueshirts had a much better season than any of us expected, they just ran into injuries at the wrong part of the season, the end. for New Jersey, my biggest hope right now is that the upcoming week off is going to throw them off their rhythm. That's something that has me a little concerned, but it gives the players time to rest while the remaining teams beat the snot out of each other. I have faith in Lou that he will keep the devils players in the game by scheduling the right amount of practices at the right times. And DrJohn, we also did it one fewer games.

I remember that. Can't say I'm sad about it being missing though. Forgive me, I'm not a baseball fan (yet, but the spofites are working on me), but how often do they actually stop a game to recognize someone breaking a record? or moving up a ladder? I haven't seen that happen in the sports I follow. It's always a pregame or postgame thing. (well, except for hat tricks, but that's only to pick the hats up off the ice)

After all, you can only score your first playoff goal once. Scott Gomez wasted no time grabbing the puck for Zach Parise on Wednesday. Yeah Zack! Speaking of the Devils, the ever so pessimistic Stan Fischler reminds us it takes four wins to win a series.

It may not have been downright dirty, but it still was boarding nonetheless. And it looked like Fedotenko turned towards the boards because he was going after the puck so it wasn't like the scenario I described earlier. I wish Chara would of got a better piece of Vinnie though.

Well Jay Pandolfo is definitely guilty of it. The worst part was the ref noticed it too. Jay was saying "I'm cut it should be 4 minutes" and the ref says "you turned around". I may be Devils fan but I am still a realist. Every team has players that do it. I can't count how many times I saw it last night. This has been happening for years now.

I was fighting to stay up but at the end of the 1rst OT I gave up and went to bed. The officials looked confused too. First they were checking the net for holes, then they kept picking the net up and feeling the bottom of it. Then they scraped the ice down to make sure it was flat and finally they just brought out a new net. And about the hitting from behind, I think half of the time the player with the puck turns to face the boards trying to draw a boarding penalty or is hoping that will stop him from getting checked.

Of course, I may be biased. You are biased DrJ, but your account is still 100% accurate. I have to give the ref mad props for backing off and let Vinny get what was coming to him. I thought it was kind of a pansie move to wait until the ref was about ready to get inbetween them to throw a punch.

How does someone go from age 15 to 28 without the thought his feet have grown entering his mind? I've been wearing a size 12 since I was 16 (and I'm over 29 now) and haven't had any problems. Depending on the brand of the shoe, sometimes I can fit in an 11 1/2. My bowling shoe size is like a 10 I think, I'm not sure, it's been awhile. Normally when my shoes feel too small it means I need to trim my toenails.

Leclair was definitely a big gamble and they paid way too much for Gonchar. Those are the only two things I can fault Patrick for. Nobody had a clue that Palffy was gonna give up at the beginning of the season or that Recchi was going to be such a disappointment. And when you're aging player is also part owner, you can't scratch him or trade him. The Penguins did look real good on paper though at the start of the season.

I really don't see Elias going anywhere, he doesn't seem to me to be a show me the money kind of guy, or Madden for that matter. I don't think Gionta is going to give NJ any problems in resigning. And just to make sure they don't have another Scott Neidermeyer incident, they already have the younger Gionta in the system. I can see Gomez going for the money though.

Now they have a better understanding of the new NHL, and they know which players have adapted and which can't hack it. Elias ain't going anywhere, this is his team now. But just in case, stay the hell away from him! You guys already ruined Mogilny dammit. Who you guys should go after is Jeff Freisen.

I just hope the refs still let them play hockey. I don't want to see 20 penalties called every game because a ref thinks he needs to call some penalties to keep his job. If it is a penalty though, absolutely call it. Just don't think because there have only been 4 penalties all game that you need call something/anything to meet some sort of quota.
