NHL Confidence Pool Update

Worst: 2 points for Edmonton, 15 for Dallas. Best: 12 points for Carolina, 1 point for TB. No matter what happens though, I still blew it. The best picks at the bottom end would have been: 12) San Jose 11-10) NJ, Ottawa 9) Colorado 8) Calgary 7-5) TB, Dallas, Nashville 4-2) Detroit, Montreal, Philadelphia 1) NY Rangers OK, so maybe 3 pts for Montreal was my best.

Every game I went to (all in the US, and none against a Canadien team) they only played the US national anthem. The games in Canada that I have seen on TV, they played both. I always wondered why, I guess this explains it. "I'm Canadian; they're just booing the team, not the anthem,'' Patrick Marleau said. "That's how I took it.'' That's how I take it too, but I still think it was disrespectful.

From the article: Prior and others say evangelicals often drive a wedge between players on a team,... I have never heard of an athlete(s) being a problem in the lockerroom because they are being evangelical. I suppose though, like everything else, it has its good and bad sides. IMO christianity does promote good morals, but if there are players getting spots on teams* over someone else just because they are pretending to be be christians, well, that is just plain wrong. *Also from the article: In training camp, Prior adds, some marginal players vying for roster spots carry around their Bibles and attend religious services to impress management.

If Lindstrom does not win the Norris trophy I will lead a group to go to either New Jersey... If you are talking about Niedermeyer, he is in Anaheim now. And I'll be part of that group. I know Neidermeyer is better than what the +/- stat shows, but I think his nomination is more because of name recognition and past performance.

Did they read the description of Norris trophy when they selected the finalists? The James Norris Trophy is awarded annually "to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-around ability in the position," When you look at the stats the article shows, they all have good offensive numbers but Neidermeyer was only a +8 (ranked 46th). Doesn't sound like an all around ability to me. Of course, I could just be bitter.

For Drury, Winning Is Not the Only Thing

Elias has been playing on both lines, but mostly with Langenbrunner and Brylin. If times get tough and the Devils really need a goal, Lou will put the E-G-G line back together. And yes, the Rangers were not at thier best. But I'm not buying into the 'Rangers were that bad', I prefer to think that the Devils were that good.

For Drury, Winning Is Not the Only Thing

The Devils lack of scoring depth will be exposed in this round. John Madden and Jamie Langenbrunner have found thier scoring touch. The Devils scored 17 goals in 4 games, with goals coming from 3 different lines. Besides scoring over 4 goals per game they also only allowed 1 goal against per game. The Canes will put up a good fight, I see all 6 games being won by only 1 goal, but the Devils will prevail. You hear me NoMich? It's on beeyatch! The Ottawa/Buffalo should be great one with probably 6 or 7 goals scored in each game. I see another Sabres team winning all of thier home games. They will have to steal one on the road to win the series, which they will, in game 7.

If Montreal wins that series then they will face Ottawa and NJ will play the winner of the Buf/Phi series. Both game sixes are on tonight too, man, decisions decisions decisions.

It was a dirty play though for a professional and Evans should receive some kind of penalty. Nothing major like a suspension, just a little monetary fine.

Forsberg looks lost? Forsberg is invisible?

Well, I must admit the Predators have really grown on me, and since relocating, Nashville is the closest hockey city to me. I felt a little saddened as I left the arena, but I still had a great time. The place exploded when the Preds scored to cut the Sharks lead down to 2-1. It seemed like the Predators responded and really turned it on at the end. Too bad it was too little, too late. And btw, Joe Thornton looks a lot bigger in person. And about this Philly/Buffalo series, for the record I also picked it to go 7 games. But not to put all my eggs in one basket I gave the series to the Sabres in the pick'em but placed the Flyers higher in the confidence points.

Buffalo is up 3-0 in the 3rd period. The Flyers just had a powerplay but the Sabres had more scoring chances on it than the Flyers did. Apparently NBC thought the end wouldn't be worth watching and switched me to the Dallas/Colorado game, which is tied 2-2.

John Davidson said that the biggest success for the Rangers, was how they reconnected with the fans. The blueshirts had a much better season than any of us expected, they just ran into injuries at the wrong part of the season, the end. for New Jersey, my biggest hope right now is that the upcoming week off is going to throw them off their rhythm. That's something that has me a little concerned, but it gives the players time to rest while the remaining teams beat the snot out of each other. I have faith in Lou that he will keep the devils players in the game by scheduling the right amount of practices at the right times. And DrJohn, we also did it one fewer games.

After all, you can only score your first playoff goal once. Scott Gomez wasted no time grabbing the puck for Zach Parise on Wednesday. Yeah Zack! Speaking of the Devils, the ever so pessimistic Stan Fischler reminds us it takes four wins to win a series.
