I really hope that the heart problems that Ortiz is having don't turn out to be serious and he returns to the line up soon, as much as I hate to see him come to the plate in big situations I still appreciate the hitter he is. Then there's Manny...I can't imagine seeing Boston play without Manny in the line-up, he is another guy who is a great hitter. Besides, it is just more fun to watch when there is only 1 or 2 games between 1st and 2nd place in the standings no matter who is in the lead.

Would people be saying all of this crap about A-Rod if they didn't expect him to be perfect? I think not! When was the last time any one who posted comments here was perfect? Trade A-rod? You have to be kidding!

What does it cost to fix when it breaks? I guess if I have to ask that I should stick to my Chevy!

I didn't see the game so I am wondering if all of this "plunking" happened after the Nationals started getting hits off of Pedro?

jerseygirl...Don't you just hate it when statements directed at you make it sound as if you know nothing about baseball when, in fact, you are knowledgeable about the game?

There is no doubt that Ortiz is a guy you would want at the plate when the game is on the line, that being said...I would just drill him each plate appearance. That would put all this "clutch" stuff to rest. :)

legitimate tournament for me? Surley you jest!!! I have to agree with jtrluva. I never said the players were dogging it either. They all like to compete, however, they also want to compete on the biggest stage and get paid big dollars to do it, that is why players like David Ortiz and Mariano Rivera are not still playing ball in the 3rd world. Just so there are no misunderstandings, I think players the caliber of MLB players deserve every cent they get. Be realistic... would you run into the outfield wall at full speed going after a flyball and possibly ruin your multi-million dollar career for a "tournament"? I think not!

Like I said before...The WBC is just a tune-up for the real thing, sure the MLB players would like to win, however, they will not risk injury for this meaningless tournament.

All the World Baseball "Classic" amounts to is spring training for Major League Baseball with, hopefully, a financial upside. Leave it to a bunch of Canadians to beleve that the players (except for the Canadian team) would risk season or career ending injury for something less than a chance at the World Series. 'Eh?

It seems to me that NASCAR has been doing everything it can to turn it's events into IROC races. All of the cars are almost identical (except the nose and tail ), they all make the same horsepower ( give or take a few ), on the superspeedways they have a restrictor plate so they all go the same speed ( give or take a few mph ) , at some races they impound the cars after qualifying ( so teams can't make their cars better for the race ) and one of the latest things they have done is they no longer let the race teams own tires for their cars, they have to lease them from Goodyear and return any unused tires after the race ( so teams can't test on non-NASCAR tracks ). This stiffels competition and innovation. I understand there needs to be rules, however, the rules need to allow innovative and resourceful people to shine, not lump them together with the not so innovative or resourceful. What's all this about "bump-drafting" being bad? That's just silly!

I kinda' like how this started out about the Blue Jays and has become about the Yankees, alot like the AL east...all about the Yankees!

"Right on, garfield. I'm with you. I'd much rather see George keep $100 million of the players salaries. Just because the Yankee franchise takes in a couple of hundred million a year is no reason to give it to the players". The players are the reason fans go to the games! They don't go to see George!

The Blue Jays have always played the Yankees and the rest of the east tough, they just can't seem to get any fan support. Without fan support it is hard to attract good players. You have to pay top dollar for the good players and make them believe they will have a real chance at a world series title, both of these things the Blue Jays have not been able to offer for some time.
