Mark Reynolds Sets New Single-Season Strikeout Record

I have no problem with Reynolds breaking his own strike out record which he set last year, the guy hit 43 bombs to go along with 100 RBIs. Babe Ruth was also known as a guy that would swing with all of his might and it was either he hit the long ball or he struck out swinging....and spinning like a top doing so.

So, in your world, that's not a comparison between Reynolds and Ruth?

Mark Reynolds Sets New Single-Season Strikeout Record

Aaaaand..once again, I'm not the one comparing Reynolds to Ruth, you guys are. I made a comment that Ruth also struck out because he basically was either swing and make hard contact or miss and miss wildly but all was well because he produced.

So, in other words, you compared Babe Ruth to Mark Reynolds. Thanks for playing.

506 2B
136 3B
123 SB
5,793 total bases

Brett Favre Starts 271st Straight Game

I actually think Marshall's streak is more impressive than Favre's. Marshall couldn't hand the ball off or throw a quick screen to avoid getting hit on any particular play. As a defensive end, playing long before enhanced penalties for illegal blocks existed (chop blocks, going at the knees, blocking from behind, etc.), it would have been far easier for him to suffer a debilitating injury than Favre, or any other QB, for that matter.

Favre's streak is impressive for skill position players, but for somebody who takes a pounding like Jim Marshall did for 17 years, I feel the criteria should be measured a bit more subjectively.

Mario Williams is a hoss in a bull helmet

Amazing how he single-handedly demolished the raging juggernaut that is the Jags' offense. Three sacks really get you that charged up? Is there just not that much to do in Houston? I always thought of it as a big city.

He's an impressive player, who posted 14 sacks last year, and is on pace to beat that figure this year. He's not quite a game-changer, though. To consistently change the game on defense, you need to be a Reggie White; a Mike Singletary; a Derrick Thomas. Williams isn't there yet. In their oft-derailed careers, Vince Young and Reggie Bush have already proven that they can single-handedly win a game; I'm not ready to give that kind of praise to Mario just yet.

NHL Suspends Sean Avery Over Crude Comment

I am quite surprised at the outrage this has caused. Don't get me wrong; it was a dick move, to be sure, by a guy who puts the "cock" in "cocksucker." His lack of respect for (at least a select few) women is appalling, and the deliberateness of the statements underscores his douchebagginess, but an indefinite league suspension? It seems a bit like using a 2 x 4 on a cockroach. Then again, with the F-Bomb popping up on network and cable morning news shows, perhaps I'm just desensitized to the power of the spoken word.

The Knicks Shed Some Cap

Donnie Walsh had to make some sort of big move to reassure the fan base that he's actually got some sort of direction in mind for the team. Will Knicks fans be patient for two years? Hard to say. Donnie's in an Obama-type situation, though; NYK fans are so thoroughly sickened by the old regime that hope springs anew, and perhaps they'll put up with a couple of lost seasons, if there's a Lebron-sized payoff at the end of the travails.

With these deals, the Knicks have cleared enough cap room not just to sign Lebron in 2010, but to show Lebron, We've got enough to sign you and somebody like Chris Bosh or Dwayne Wade.

I think it was a good move by Walsh, hopefully the first of many. I'm not a Knicks fan by any stretch of the imagination, but a storied franchise like that needs to be put back together. If the Knicks lose for two years, but play hard, and genuinely appear to be trying, that will go a long way toward legitimizing D'Antoni as a coach who can handle the Big Apple and keeping the fans semi-satisfied during Lebron Watch 2008 - 2009.

Lesnar proves size does matter

BI, I wasn't speaking for anybody else. I speak for me when I say that you telling somebody else that their point is invalid because it's just their opinion is the height of hypocrisy on your part. Most of what you type on this site is unfounded opinion.

Of course, that's your right; after all, Sportsfilter is a sports message board, rife with opinions, insults, and bias. Just don't call somebody else out for behavior you exhibit all the time yourself.

As for the fix, I don't know that the Lesnar - Couture match "looked fixed;" I was speaking to the possibility of a fix. With all the crooked shit that goes on in the combat sports today, the possibility is always real. And, while you may see Dana White as a paragon of athletic and management purity and integrity, I don't know that I'm ready to trust his organization yet.

Lesnar proves size does matter

You don't have to believe that this was a legitimate fight but if all you have is your opinion to base that on, then you are absolutely ridiculous.

Because God knows, you've never done that before.

You sound like the typically bitter MMA fan who is pissed off because the interloper came in and won...Fuck off back to Sherdog. You'll fit right in.

If his post makes him sound like a bitter, pissed off fan, what the hell does your post make you sound like? Resorting to personal attacks because somebody said something you didn't like about your favorite sport? Well, sure, that's rational.

Anything can be fixed. Anything. Especially, but not limited to, the combat sports. They've been filled with cheats and liars for generations. If you don't think the fix can be in on any given sport, you're incredibly naive.
