Did somebody say "Football?"

The assclowns will continue to be mildly entertaining yet disconcerting when seen in person for the first time.

USC's 2004 BCS Championship Could Be In Jeopardy

For those too lazy to click on the link, here is the article in its entirety: NEW YORK - In light of allegations of improper conduct by Reggie Bush's family, Bowl Championship Series officials told Yahoo! Sports if Bush is ruled ineligible by either the Pac-10 or the NCAA during the 2004 season, the BCS will discuss amending its rules to allow it to force USC to vacate the national championship it won over Oklahoma. "This is the type of thing the BCS might have to look into if other governing bodies, the conference and the NCAA, take action," BCS administrator Bill Hancock said. FWIW, this controversy has already spawned an FPP, and I don't think a new post linking to an article the size of my pinky nail is worth making.

Bonds to sue "Game of Shadows" authors, publishers

Look, Bonds knows he's guilty, and he knows the American public knows he's guilty. Filing a lawsuit like this is not surprising in the least... your average idiot will hear "lawsuit filed by Bonds" and, failing to note that he never challenges the allegations made in the book, think "well, hot damn, he must be innocent after all." Mexico's Ayala Out For Season

How many of these injuries can be blamed on the WBC.... From the linked article: The news of Ayala needing Tommy John surgery left the Nationals organization upset with Ayala and Major League Baseball. Weeks before the World Baseball Classic began, the Nationals, according to team president Tony Tavares, appealed to Major League Baseball twice about not allowing Ayala to play for Mexico because the club thought his elbow was not strong enough to play in any games in early March. Tavares said both appeals were denied. The point, zip, is that had Ayala stayed out of the WBC, he would have been brought along at a more appropriate pace in line with his injury and corresponding surgery. The WBC as an entity is not to blame, but I have to side with the Nats on this one.

Dear frazer, Thank's for the advice. Unfortunately, with the total comment count approaching 150 in the other thread, I could not be assured of internet superstardom by having my obviously argument-ending opinion seen by posting it in the aforementioned thread. It became obvious that to win over more hearts and minds, posting my brilliant observations on the topic to the front page was the only option. Honestly, do you want to check in to SpoFi every day and see one-link post after one-link post, each of which exists only to spout the same rah-rah or your-team-is-overrated bullshit you can hear by tuning in to your local sports talk radio? Does this guy have any credability left?

If somebody could provide scientific proof the a shot of B-12 can cause a positive test then I would believe it. Well, a shot of B12 alone would not cause a positive result. He tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol and is claiming that the B12 shot was somehow tainted without his knowledge. From his statement: "I have never intentionally taken steroids. But I must also acknowledge that Stanozolol, a banned substance, was found in my system in May. Although I do not know how this substance came into my body, it is possible that a shot of vitamin B12 I took sometime in April might have been the cause." He later says he has "never implicated any player in the intentional use or distribution of steroids, or any other illegal substance, in any interview or testimony." Sounds like he's claiming somebody added a little kicker to the ol' B12 and got Raffy in trouble... I just don't know.

Spree to flee?

Here's my favorite part of the article: "Sprewell's $14.6 million salary this season is tied with eight other players for the ninth highest in the league. To put that into context, Sprewell's salary is more than double that of Indiana's Ron Artest and Detroit's Richard Hamilton, players who are more than five years younger and considered better than Sprewell. " I guess it's hard to feed a family on only $14.6 million a year, what with taxes and all.

Miami Heat retire a jersey, finally.

Jordan was surprised by the gesture. But he also thought all the pregame hoopla might have been a psychological ploy by Riley, a longtime nemesis. "I thought Pat was trying to get my mind thinking about all the accolades, and then next thing you know, I forget about the game," Jordan said. "I said, 'I ain't going to fall for that.' I got out of the blocks quick and I got into a good rhythm."

The dismissal of Garner tied the quickest firing of a manager who started the season since 1900, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Baltimore fired Cal Ripken Sr. in 1988 after the Orioles lost six games en route to an 0-21 start. (Quoted from ESPN story on Garner's firing here.)

That No Slow Play merch is hideous. I wouldn't wear/display it when I play, and I do my golfing on a municipal course. I agree with dglynn. It is extremely aggravating to stand in the fairway and watch each member of the fivesome in front of you three-putt, then stand on the green and record their triple bogey on the card before putting the pin back in the cup and moving on to the next tee.

In tonight's NBA all star game

They even booed Michael Irvin when he suffered a serious neck injury... Philly fans actually cheered Irvin's injury, but I know what you meant. Jim Gray was in Kobe's face afterwards... I can't stand Jim Gray. When I heard Kobe's award speech, it was as if Jim Gray had brainwashed him ("Fans were booing... fans were booing...") so that he felt the need to mention the booing more than once. I'm sure he was a little hurt, too, but he probably had not given it as much thought until after Mr. Gray's leading questions.
