The Hoser's NFL Picks, 2008 Week Nine

"We were considering sending an email to Terrell Owens suggesting if he wasn't handling enough balls, he could try his own in the shower. But given the number of passes he drops over the middle, we're not sure he has any."

You almost made me ruin my moniter with that one lol. But you better be careful.....I hear Pac-Man has nothing to do for a few weeks and we all know how sensitive TO can be.

Report: Brady's Injury Torn ACL

The thing that gets me about this is that Randy Moss came out and said that the hit was a cheap shot and a dirty play. Now I might not a ref but from what I seen the o-lineman pushed the blitzing safty to the groung because he was gonna beat him with speed, which is what most o-lineman are taught to do,it just happened that when the safty hit the ground his momentum carried him into Brady's lower leg(not his knee)and Brady got twisted up.

While I do not like the Pats it is a shame to see such a good player put on the shelf with such a devastating injury, but I think it reminds us all that no matter how good you are in sports that luck (both good and bad)does play a role.

Fan Ejected From Yankee Stadium For Bathroom Break During 'God Bless America'

A wise man once said "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."

Seems we have lost commen sense as well.

Next thing you know they will try to stop you from getting a beer during the 7th inning stretch.

Let's Play the Feud!

I'm really starting to think that Joe does this kind of stuff just to keep his name out there because theres no way he can compare to Mr. Cub in all around play or in just being humble. I dont remember him complaining when he was part of "The Big Red Machine" and its not Banks or Sandbergs fault that he isnt even remembered as the second or third best player on his team. Both Banks and Sandberg carried that franchise and Joe had the benifit of playing with some of the best players around. That being said I'm need to go cut my hands off now for defending Cubs players while being a Sox fan.

George Carlin: (Late) Sports Authority

He has to be my all time favorite comic and when i read the news i couldnt understand how it was possible he was gone. I can say that i dont remember a show I have seen where you didnt get your moneys worth. I know this a sports forum but to limit his work to just that would be a crime. He was truly a comic genius and will be deeply missed. Tnip touched on it earlier, I'm sure he is with Pesci.....Because remember....Pesci gets resaults. :)

Pitcher really don't like an ump? Have your catcher duck and hit him in the face!

To me this just sounds like a pitcher and catcher that were tired of a small strike zone trying to get even. Not saying it was right but in the end its nothing compared to the pithcer who beaned the kid in the on deck circle because he thought the kid was tryin to steal signs.

No. 3 overall pick Ryan to get $34.75M guaranteed from Falcons

Anyone else think that the owners might be right wanting a rookie salary cap?

Sacks, Lies and Videotape.

Anyone remember the Raiders old motto "If you aint cheatin you aint tryin"? While I dont think this goes for all of sports I do think that if a way to better your game is out there that isnt within the rules some people will use it.Not saying its right but it does and will continue to happen as long as there is a first place and a last place.

NFL Owners Vote Unanimously to End Collective Bargaining Agreement

I cant see how the owners would want to let the players get a taste of a no cap season. Every agent must be drooling like a madman at the thought of this. If there's no new CBA in place before 2010 you can be sure there will be a lockout in 2011. I just hope this doesnt turn the NFL into what the NHL was a few years ago.

If you can't beat 'em, cheat 'em.

I dont know if I would say that the screen was "clean" but it was legal.Horry is to smart of a player to have this happen by accident. When this is all said and done this play may be what does the Spurs in, because if the Hornets decide to play a more physical game now they have the younger legs and i'm not sure if the Spurs can continue to play this many games at this tempo. Dont get me wrong, the Spurs are still the favorite to alot of people but you have to wonder what toll this seris has taken.

The Best Homerun Story Ever

You know...as more and more kids see players with big money contracts and huge endorsements its nice to see that the "spirit of the game" still has a place in it all.

Jays release Frank Thomas:

As a long time White Sox fan I knew this was coming after the comments he made a few days ago. He has never been one to hold his tounge and it has hurt him more times than it has helped. That being said i still think that he is one of the best hitters that I have ever seen and when Ted Williams says that you have one of the purest swings he has seen that means something. To bad he angered so many of the Chicago writers that will one day help determine his Hall of Fame future.

Football ref crew mistake may cost $4.5 million

It's been a long time since I've been able to say this ,but it's time for Ohio State to figure out that they are not the only team with talent. The Big Ten has finally become what people thought it was. And to gobucks,it's not like Ohio State got beat by Eastern Illinois, the Illini have won a few this year.

The dumbest football fines ever!

Some good memories here. I do remember that game jojo, funniest part of that whole thing was one of the announcers asked the other "Can you tell if his head is still in there" to which he answered "I can't tell, I dont see it but if it is he (Turley) needs to try out for the discus event."

Top 50 Sporting Injuries

I can remember watching the Theismann injury on tv with my dad. I'm not saying that it was the worst injury out there, but my father served in Vietnam and said that the injury to Theismann was one of the worst things he had ever seen and it kinda turn my stomach to this day. Another nasty injury that I can remember was also on Monday Night Football when Ken Norton was coming low on a runningback and the player moved at the last moment and Norton hit his teammate Bryant Young in the leg breaking it.

Chicago Blackhawks Owner Bill Wirtz Passed Away......

You never like to hear that a longtime owner passes away, but sadly this might be a good thing for the Hawks in the longrun. Don't get me wrong it's sad that he passed, but as a lifelong fan, the "Dollar Bill" Wirtz jokes were gettin real old. Hopefully the family will bring in some talent now and make a run at respectfulness with this team because it's been a long time since we have been there.

Last place White Sox extend manager Ozzie Guillen's contract through the 2012 season.

As a die haed Sox fan I just don't understand this. Why would you extend him 5 years when it doesn't look like he will be here in 2. Don't get me wrong the man can manage a team IF he isn't running his mouth about something. In all honesty he seems like a stroke canidite half the time now.

Bills' Everett Injures Spine Making Tackle

I live in Illinois near Chicago so I didn't see the play live, but when Fox replayed it during the game I was watching the first thing that came to mind was the Jets game back in 92 against the Chiefs I think. That play reminded me so much of the play that Dennis Byrd got hurt on in the sense that no one did anything against the rules, but just bad luck. The only thing that I see wrong with the play is that he put his head down going in on the tackle. When I played ball in school coach always demanded that we keep our heads up and on a "swivel" because you never know where the next hit is coming from. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying he is a bad player because of this because I see players "lead" with thier helmets all the time and I think he was just trying to make a play for his team and for a second had some of the worst luck anyone can have, but how many more injurys like this can the NFL have before they go to the coaching staffs and tell them that they need to reteach the basics. Indeed my thoughts are with him and his family because the way it sounds this morning, they need all the help they can get.

You know,I love hearing stories like this. You know...the last guy that people think should be doing this is the one person who makes it worth while. All I can say is bravo and he should have told them the horse was a floatation device.

Did Ty Cobb really have 9 consecutive AL batting titles?

Old Man,I stand in awe of your knowledge. It's nice to hear stories if the legands of the game from a fans view instead of someone who is paid to "hype" the players up. As far as your view of players being overpaid,Ihave had this arguement many times over and firmly agree with you. What I would like to know is how many really play for the love of the game and how many play for the love of the contract. Don't get me wrong,I do believe that if your good at something you do as "work" you should be paid accordingly but some of these contracts are beyond overpaid. You ever wonder what it would be like if teachers were paid like this? But I digress. Again anytime you would like to pop in and tell of times of when players really earned that paycheck I would welcome the knowledge. As far as you starting a column or article, sign me up if it happens!

Did Ty Cobb really have 9 consecutive AL batting titles?

Old Man,I would like to thank you for reminding me of a time that this game was just that...a game. That it was something that was as close to pure as you could get from a sport. My father was never a huge baseball fan but would tell me about the great Ted Williams as if he were a legand larger than life. As a devoted White Sox fan I always wanted to learn more about Shoeless Joe,and as I got older and learned more about him from gradparents and old news reels,it seemed like such a waste of a surefire great career. Now I know there will always be debate about his role in the Black Sox scandal, but from what I have heard and read he might have just had the purest swing this side of Williams. Old Man i'm sure I can speak for everyone here when I say it would be a honor to read anymore stories you would be willing to pass on.

The idea that the father was just trying to protect his son is a noble thought but that is no excuse for throwing a child across the room. Now to the question of "what if it was my son". I will say that you can't really awnser that unless you have gone through it,but i feel that if put in his place that i would react diffrently, but like all other posts here, that's just my opinion.

Barbaro Euthanized

Just because it was a racehorse doesn't mean that it wasn't loved by the owners. With owners becoming more and more involved with day to day operations and being around the animal more some people come to see it as a pet. And with any pet putting it to "sleep" is almost the last resort.

'Football is a Great Game Until You Turn 45'

Another thing to remember here is that the retirement packages for most NFL players dont cover the cost of the treatment they need later down the road. And most players never sign that "big money contract".And for those who say "they still get a couple hundred thousand dollars a year",remember that players have to pay taxes to every state they play in during the season on top of the taxes taken when they sign the contract.I was once told that football was like smoking in that only a fool will give up tomorrow for the joy given today.

The 85 Bears Are Dominating Marketing Like The Defense Dominated The Field

Superbowl Shuffle. That is all that is needed to explain the love affair with the 85 Bears. It was the first team to use that type of media to put itself out there for the common football fan.I have been a Bears fan as long as I can remember and remember the bad taste it left that Payton never scored in the game but the "Fridge" did,but everyone remembers that video/song.
