Yankees Win World Series

Wow really? I'm going to get banned for my considerably mild post?

Then DO IT.

I've been reading and posting in this forum for more than two years and I have read some seriously graphic and hateful stuff that didnt result in a ban (see the pre ban Bishop era). To be specific I didnt call any one person a Troll. I made mention that I thought they would come out as expected and they did and will. I liked this forum because people could speak their mind, if those days are gone then ban me since I wont be back anyway. LAME...

Yankees Win World Series

by gray matter:

Nice to see that after 9 long years, George was finally able to buy that next world series title.

Best thing that the Yankees do for city of NY is the massive amount of tax that their players probably have to pay on those exorbitant incomes.

"Most Yankee fans seem to think that if you are not a Yankee fan then you must be a Yankee hater."

Sorry gray but your first statement sounds EXACTLY like a Yankee Hater with your sour grapes. Be a hater, that's fine, were used to it but at least own it.

Meanwhile I'm going to do my part to ensure the appropriate funding funding to "buy" next years Championship. I think a Division, League Champ and World Champ hat are in order.

Yankees Win World Series

What planet are you living on? The Kansas City Royals are not spending $130 million less than the Yankees on their players out of choice.

The Yankees are a terrific team and a worthy champion. But fans of the team should admit that maybe, quite possibly, the massive financial advantage of the team plays a role in that.

130 Million in today's day and age is nothing when compared to the money the owners of proffessional sports teams can make. The Steinbrenners have been spending for decades and they can because their franchise is healthy. It's healthy because people WANT to buy Yankees merchandise and watch Yankee games. The Yankees measure themselves by the number of Championships they win while "some" other clubs are happy to settle for Division titles and/or playoff appearances and an occasional Championship. Based on Market Size alone the SF Giants COULD spend dollar for dollar with the Yankees right now and DONT.

I for one would rather be the fan of a team willing to spend money on talent than lamenting my tightwad owners lack of concern for their fans season after season.

Brady Quinn's House Up For Sale

Earlier this year Quinn (against the Vikings) took a sack over 8 seconds after the snap. Yeah, you have crap receivers but that is ridiculous - it isn't possible to cover pro WRs for that long, you just aren't seeing the open man.

One play at 8 seconds still doesnt make it Quinns fault. Is there a video clip of this play? The few CB games I have seen Ive watched Quinn take some viscious sacks and hit's just after throwing. The kid could be shell shocked from all that. The difference between Quinn and Dilfer is that Quinn actually has talent and Quinn works hard to get better after each game.

I think youre right that the Browns wont get much for Quinn but fuck em! They are the ones setting him up to fail. They are the ones who arent protecting him. They are the ones using Anderson to threaten him with (and vice versa) so good, I hope the browns dont get squat. Spagnuolo is rebuilding the Rams and could do alot worse than Brady Quinn to build around. The Raiders are now certain that ANYONE is a better alternative to Jamarcus Russell. The Vikings know that after this year farve is gone and Tavaris Jackson isnt the answer. Tampa Bay is playing the QB shuffle.

There is no limit to the Options for Quinn and if he lands somewhere they can give him some time and help the game slow down for him methinks he will be a damn good QB.

By the way, how's Matt Cassell working out in KC? New England is living proof that if you can protect the QB long enough, a highschool kid with a big arm can get above average stats.

Brady Quinn's House Up For Sale

To be fair, neither of these guys has very long to find a receiver getting chased around the backfield. I dont think Tom Brady could be successful as a QB behind that Godaweful line. I think Brady Quinn and decent team with a decent front line will be a damn good QB. He has a great work ethic and a big heart and I think when the game starts to slow down for him he will be successful. Just not in Cleveland. Cleveland goes through QB's like their coming out of a PEZ dispenser these days. Newsflash guys, until you guys can pass protect and establish a consistant running game you might as well sub the QB for another running back and make another version of the Wildcat. I've always hated the QB controversy shit as I think it hurts the entire team. Pick your F-ing guy and let him play, let him get better, let him learn and help him.

30 dirty players in 30 days

Clarke was a dirty little stick-weasel, a hacker, a spitter, a whiner, a spearer, and ultimately, a cowardly little subhuman piece of vindictive shit who hid behind Schultz, Dupont, Dornhoefer and the rest of that embarassment to Philly.

Dude, I couldnt have said it better myself. Been bottling that up have you? :)

Now, as a lifelong Ranger fan I would like to put forth a question.

Was Nick Fotiu (1970's era New York Ranger) protector or a goon?

I ask because he was one of my favorite players as a child. My Dad and I would go to the Garden early for Rangers games as often as we could. After each warm up Nick would grab a handful pucks and throw them high into the upper decks. He would say that as a kid he could only afford those cheap seast and that he watched as the kids in the expensive seats would get all the pucks from the players. He was also one of the few American players in the NHL at the time.
I know he wasnt a great player and I watched him brutally beat guys on the ice, but my Dad would defend him saying he was protecting the Swedes(Ulf Neilsen etc.) from the other goons. In all honesty it seemed at the time that at least he fought big guys. I mean I never saw him drub a little guy or a defenseless guy but he sure did more fighting than shooting. I now wonder if my childhood view was jaded by his off the ice demeanor. What is the perception of other hockey fans who can remember back that far :)

Oh and Rumple, I never got to see Nick kick the everloving shit out out of Bobby Clarke but I always dreamed of watching it.

Of course I did watch him deliver a systematic beating to Stan Jonathan which, in my book, was the next best thing :)

Oregon Player Flips Out After Boise State Game

Many people in this forum have kittens when people make judgements before all the facts are in. When Michael Vick was "accused" of running a dog fighting ring people where in here stating " you all need to wait until the evidence is in before you condemn him". While folks in here are now positive that Hout instigated this. No one knows what Hout said or for that matter what Blount may have said DURING the game to provoke that taunt.

That was also clearly a sucker punch. Houts attention was turned. It doesnt matter how tough you are when you get hit in the chops, full bore from a strong athletic person. Had he seen it coming he may have had to a chance to block most of it and maybe deliver one himself.

As far as Blounts reaction, that dude was out of control. Im suprised they didnt tase him after he tried to go after fans. That is some real issues that boy has and I hope for everyones sake he learns how to control that. When this washes him out of proffessional football I would hate to be the guy at the grocery store who steals this guys parking spot.

Child's Skull Fractured by Foul Ball

Just went to a Reno Aces game with my 10 yr old. Watched some cookin line drives fly at the people down the baseline (we were behind the screen) and thought "you'd better be paying attention to the game at all times if your sitting down there". A high fly is one thing but a line drive to the inattentive melon is something else.

I hope the child is ok and doesnt suffer any permanent damage.

I can "maybe understand" not wanting to look like a billboard though I dont see how a little Nike Swoosh on the cap and left breast of the shirt constitute looking like a "NASCAR driver". But for those sums of money I couldnt care less if my golf bag looked like a doodle pad for and advertising exec.

Did Vick Break Reinstatement Deal by Drinking Vodka?

Anyone who thinks an average person would have been out of prison right now for what vick was charged with is delusional. Vicks high paid attorneys got him off light, the same way stallworth walks away from manslaughter charges with 24 days in jail (not to be confused with "prison"). The sad fact is that rich and famous people get better treatment by the courts in America. It makes me sick but at least I see it for what it is.

If part of his deal to return to the NFL was that he would refrain from consumption then, while probably not in violation to the letter I would bet in spirit he was. I mean, have a drink at home dude, but in public two weeks after a reinstatement that was unlikely at best, you tempt fate? Stupid. Knowing what Goodell is I see Vick F-ing up by the numbers again and the commish laying the ban hammer on him. Goodell cant afford to give Vick a third chance so Vick needs to be squeakier than Steve Young if he wants to stay.

To me personally, it doesnt matter that crime he committed wasnt against humans. He took pleasure from inflicting pain and death into living creatures. Read any book about sociopaths and they say its a short leap to humans. His soul is dead and thats enough for me to consider him despicable despite the fact that the NFL and Tony Dungy want to give him another chance. I hope he's changed but I doubt it.

Manny Ramirez suspended for substance abuse

Dviking I wasnt calling you out at all I was just responding to your post :) And as I feared despite my X2 disclaimer Im getting labeled as steroid proponent to which I am not.

My point was that there are doctors who refute the alleged lethality of steroids. The FDA approves all kinds of drugs that are not neccessarily for the treatment of some disease. Botox is essentially botulism yet the FDA allows it to be injected into the lips of Americans every day. Im not saying that because a disease can enlarge a mans breasts it means steroids are safe, I'm "asking" how big of a deal that side affect is in the eyes of doctors who prescribe medicines with far riskier side affects. I guess I'd take a third nipple over a stroke, call me crazy.

Boknows, Thats just the point, these "doctors", not rabid sports fans, are saying there just arent any "bodies" attributed to steroids and in fact say that if doctors could prescribe them they could be used with fewer side affect. Also I wasnt talking about MLB's stance on the PED aspect, I just saw the fucking video on the safety of the stroids and the "fiction of Lyle Alzado's death by roid". and thought I'd bring it to the debate. Trust me , Im sorry I did.

Justgary, I'm a peace officer and I deal in evidence "beyond a reasonable doubt" for criminals and by a "preponderance of evidence" (51% of jurors) for civil cases. Evidence comes in many forms and historically, the least trustworth is the "eyewitness" unless there is more than one. My concern is that, much like the Salem witch trials, I see this going in the direction (in the court of public opinion) where a whisper reaches the media and all of us who have seen MLB players, one after another get caught automatically presume the guilt of a player who didnt use it. I agree, Pettits admission, Bonds paperwork (though i doubt receipts were given for illegal substances:) and test results are all "evidence". Im waiting to see when it turns to rumors and hearsay and that becomes enough to presume a players guilt. Of course evidence will be difficult to obtain from those conspiring to hide their activities. Thats what criminals/cheaters do. It's why we only catch the really stupid or unlucky criminals.

Dviking,

DISCLAIMER: I am not defending or advocating the use of steroids nor do I know enough about medicine to render an opinion on whether those doctors are right or wrong. I saw the special, thought about this thread and decided to throw it into the discussion :)

"technically" men have breasts and there ares diseases out there that cause them to become enlarged and pronounced much like a steroid may do. I'm not saying they are "good for you" but if you take ibubrofen every day and you get stomach cancer there is a problem in both areas.

I for one think men who take viagra despite the fact that you could get a boner for two days that requires scalpels and needles to enter your junk is more of a risk than I am willing to take.

Again I'm not saying the doctor is right I'm just adding it to the debate that there are very valid points to be made.

BI, Ok He may not have outted all the cheaters but he outted himself and McGuire and started the whole spiral. I doubt many people other than the whatshisname who kept a needle with DNA from Roger Clemens' ass will have actual "evidence" that these other players are juicing. Another sad note is going to go to the first person who "isnt" actually using them but gets accused in this witch hunt. I'm sorry but it wouold be difficult to refute for any player at this point.

On another note I saw a great special about steroids on 20/20 last night and these doctors were saying that there is NO evidence that steroids cause any more health problems than any other drug and argued that it should be legalized and prescribed by doctors who could monitor the side affects. They argued that only a very small percentage of people taking steroids get the "roid rage" and the the pro wrestler who killed his family and himslef showed no evidence that he had enough steroids currently in his system to even be affected by that side affect. They stated that steroids COULD NOT have caused Lyle Alzedo's brain tumor and that Advil had as many serious side affects as most anabolic steroids.

DISCLAIMER: I am not defending or advocating the use of steroids nor do I know enough about medicine to render an opinion on whether those doctors are right or wrong. I saw the special, thought about this thread and decided to throw it into the discussion :)

I think it's funny how so many people want to believe Manny because they like him as person. I admit that I enjoy watching him play but the huge penalty and the fact that he wont contest it tells me he's dirty. On the flip side Roger Clemens' and Barry Bonds personality was such that alot of people were quick to convict them and had no trouble believing they were juicing.

Everyone hates Conseco but the fact of the matter is that like him or not he outed the cheaters (himself included) and now people are left not liking the feeling of "where have all the heros gone" so they decide it's easier to just dislike the messenger.

The time has come for MLB to decide whether it's going to be a serious sport or proffessional wrestling. People enjoy proffessional wrestling but no one takes it seriously anymore.

I think the Giants have a young team, that while repeating is obviously a daunting task, can likely win the NFC East. Having said that, that the NFC East has tendency to beat each other up pretty bad during the regular season. The cowboys should still be a quality team, the eagles are up and down so you cant really tell, the Skins just signed Jim Zorn as a head coach so that could go either way. This Division will be up in the air, but I dont think the Giants were as inconsistant as some may think. They played dang good ball the entire second half of the season and through the playoffs. Even without a big chip on their shoulders next season I think they will have more confidence. With rookies like Bradshaw, smith, Moss, Boss, I think the G-Men will be tough to beat. Having said that, injuries are always lurking and can change a season in the blink of an eye.

#1 TBH, that was not directed solely at you ("guys" was plural so I thought that was clear). There are plenty of posts beating up on on Eli. How did I attempt to prohibit "your right to discuss sports"? I thought thats what we were doing? #2 So since my team won, I should shut up and color? Bullshit! I also have a right to discuss sports here as I see fit as well, and I happen to disagree with those who seem to think that Eli Sucked his way to a superbowl ring. I was one of his biggest critics during the season, I wasnt sure he was going to find his way in the NFL, but if NOT throwing an interception in the Entire playoffs (Brady threw 3 in the Championship game alone) doesnt get you at least some measure of respect as a passer then I dont know what will. #3 How is my post "complaining"? I attemted to rebutt the posts made critisizing Eli. I think I made some valid points too. His teamates that "bailed him out" as you say LED THE LEAGUE IN DROPPED PASSES. Maybe its about time they gave him some help. Maybe its YOU who need to stay objective around here. I was absolutely not upset when I wrote my post I just didnt agree with some of the opinions out there. Guys should be used to that by now.. #4 I've never written an "Ode" before so I was unaware that using one cliched tearm was the measure by which odes were written but since I know now I will practice and write some more. Look TBH, I dont know who your "team" is but there were alot of crappy written, inflammatory threads out there on both sides of this game but I re-read mine and I still dont think mine was one of em.

Now wait just a dang second...... I don't think Eli deserves nearly the credit he's receiving. The play where he escapes everybody on the Pats' defense was incredible, but if not for a standout play by Tyree, that ball goes two feet above his head. I think the Giants' wide receivers saved Eli's bacon all through the second half I was unsure of Eli during most of the regular season HOWEVER, was he not the QB victim of "the most dropped passes in the NFL" all season??? Ok he got some help but damn he made some great throws too. The kid WANTED the ball with 2 minutes left and the game on the line, he DID throw a sweet TD pass Plax to win the biggest game in the world with seconds left. Was not, Joe Montanas pass destined for the bleachers when Clark snatched the pass and victory from the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game??? Come on guys, It's time to let go... He's not Peyton (he readily admits that) but he led his team to one of the biggest upsets in Superbowl history. As a question, how long did Peyton play before he won his first Superbowl? I love Plax, but him and Toomer drop alot of balls, certainly its no Harrison/Wayne combo like his brother has. To that effect, the O-line, up until the playoffs hasnt exactly been perfect and afforded him time to sit back and watch the for a break in coverage. I belive guts and heart are more important than raw talent and as a lifelong Giants fan I hope Eli retires as a G-Man. That kid was having fun playing and that is something you dont see everyday on the proffessional gridiron. There were ALOT of Giants that could have gotten MVP and I would have been OK with it but Eli got the nod, he deserves it and we shouldnt detract from his accomplishment to raise someone elses. Had the giants lost, we wouldnt be blaming the D-line, we would place it squarely on Eli. I think Eli has finally found his stride. Even if he struggles later on I will remember what he did here and as a GIANTS fan, I thank him for that. On another note I forgot to congratulate the Patriots and their fans on a great season. As a Yankee fan I hate (but respect) the Red Sox but certainly not "Boston" The Pats are a class act and did something truely incredible. They had a great season and should be proud. I have always hated that the "loser" of the Superbowl is seen as a "failure". The entire AFC "failed" to do what the Pats did and I would hardly consider that failure material.

Terry, Howie and Jimmie all wrote the Giants off before the game while Troy Aikmen, during the game thought of every excuse for the cowboys. I know the dude is a life long cowboy but this was a Nationally broadcast game, show some respect and "pretend" to be objective! So sweet!.. gotta savor this one... I would love to have another crack New England!

Seattle defeats Washington,

The camera view from behind the O line showed a hold on Garrads running play but it was in the back field and Im not certain it would have impacted the outcome.

Seattle defeats Washington,

Im not a fan of either team but what a great game (Jacksonville/Pittsburg)! The Quatarian - while that pass interference call may have been atrocious, it was no more so than the imaginary holding call that lead to Pittsburg losing the 2 point conversion. Either way I found my self routing for both teams during the game and afterwards I think I would have been happy no matter who won. Gratz to the Jags!

Leyritz Arrested On Suspicion Of DUI, Manslaughter.

Hmm, I'm wondering about this 3 hour period before they took his blood. In my state, we have "implied consent". When you sign for your drivers license you sign that you agree to submit to a blood test. If you say "no thank you" they take you to hospital, strap you down and take your blood. If what you did killed someone, they do a different kind of blood draw. They take it as soon as you get to the hospital, then again after certain periods of time. What this does is show the jury the point of drunkenness you were at the time of the accident. I.e. If you test at .08 on first draw then .10 15 minutes later, it means you likely consumed alchohol immediately before getting behind the wheel. If you tested at .08 on first draw then .04 on the second it still gives a relative indication that you had stopped drinking some time before you got behind the wheel. Either way I dont see how his refusal will result in an aquittal unless it really did take them three hours to get his blood. If anything the refusal may sway the jury out of any tearful I'm sorry's. "why did you try to hide it the" type things.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Hmmm, I would say that the committee "needed" to show how widespead this problem is. This was not just the bash brothers putting people in seats to get the fat cat owners rich, this was/is happening all across the sport. If it takes the use of PED's to even play MLB, then what are we doing to our kids that aspire to play? I think the country has to either accept PED's as a fact of life for those who wish to play the sport, or cut them out like a cancerous growth. Personally, if it takes a witch hunt to cut them out I'm for it.

The human toll of hockey concussions.

Campbell, who acts as the NHL's disciplinarian, cites an interesting discussion with Flyers GM Paul Holmgren after one of numerous transgressions by his players. "I said, `Homer, he was hitting to hurt him,'" recalled Campbell. "He said, `Well, don't we hit to hurt?' I said, `I'm not so sure. That's a good question.'" This is frightening... Two trolls, one manages a "proffessional" hockey team, the other, the league "disciplinarian". If people like these are not removed from positions of authority quickly, hockey wil be gone, and rightfully so. I will NOT offer my sons to this game so long as shitbags like this run the show.

Pac-Man Jones pleads no contest.

Sorry Fraze, I just thought since we spent so much time discussing things like whether or not he did it, whether the league took the right actions, What the definition of a "thug" lifestyle is etc. that Spo-Fi readers might like some closure. Have admin delete the thread if you want.

Motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel dead at 69

Oh man, Im glad Im not alone on this one. I LOVED Evel as kid!! I remember having to wait over an hour (seemed like a lifetime to a small boy) while the network went over and over how jumping the shark tank was isane! Of course now we know those sharks probably would have been scared to death had that bike entered the pool at 65 MHP...LOL But man the intensity of the hype, then the crash at the end just mezmerizing for me. I will be the first to say I wasnt the the kid who tried to jump the car on my BMX, cuz I knew how much failing would hurt. I guess thats why I idolized him, I wished I could have had that courage. I wonder what it must have felt like when he did clear some huge jump? Must have been awesome. RIP Evel, P.S. Ask St. Peter if he wouldnt mind Pay per viewing you jumping those pearly gates. Your fan, FC

Bruins' Patrice Bergeron Leaves Game on Stretcher

The Flyers organization has been promoting this crap on the whole since the 70's. If you want to clean your image up #1 stop refering to yourselves as things like "The Legion of Doom" #2 Stop making "Dirty" hits. Yes Hockey has a place for "rough" play, just not "dirty" play. Rockstar I dont think hockey is getting "Dirtier" but I think in general, the single incidents seem to be getting more Heinous.

Then someone suggested ultimate frisbee and we have never looked back. LMFAO!!!!!!!! I move for a man law vote..... Frisbee is an activity not a sport, and so men shall only engage in it while trying to impress bikini clad women.... All in favor?

Michael Vick Admits to Dogfighting, Will Plead Guilty

heraldtribune.com/article/20070818/SPORTS/708180313I think the assumption that Vick was personally torturing dogs is a stretch to make from Pearce's statement of facts. The summary of facts reads in part: "These dogs all died as a result of the collective efforts of Peace, Phillips and Vick." They used various methods of execution, including hanging and drowning, the court papers read. You left out the best part of that article. "The court filings also say Peace, Phillips and Vick killed about eight dogs that failed to fight well after testing sessions in April 2007". Or this one "A statement signed by Phillips as part of his plea agreement said Vick participated in the execution of about eight dogs, some by drowning and hanging". from this article http://heraldtribune.com/article/20070818/SPORTS/708180313
