Tim Hardaway, the yin to Jon Amaechi's yang:

While I sympathize with tysnes--what you went through was truly horrible--there is this misconception that gays are pedophiles or somehow perverted. About 10 percent of the species is homosexual. It is not a choice, but who a person is sexually. I personally don't understand the whys of it, and am not a "gay defender," but am just trying to be tolerant of other people.

Dallas, you're amazing, using the bible for your own convenience. Most "Christians" do, especially fundamentalists. Nowhere in the book does it specifically mention gay people, but it does slavery and that women are subservient objects, inferior to men. Hardaway can say whatever he wants. When I listened to him speak, I could tell he is not the sharpest tool in the shed, and he just illustrated his ignorance. It was not that long ago when interracial marriage was outlawed.

Yankees sending delegation to China

Actually, there are over two billion people. More business for Wal-Mart. More jobs lost because more MLB merchandise will be made there. If Steinbrenner is involved, a safe assumption can be made that there is some alterior motive to make money. We probably are not talking about merchandise being SOLD over there, where the average worker makes less than $1 per hour. If there are pure motives, to expand baseball's market globally, then fine, but I doubt it. Why does it always have to be about the Yankees, anyway? Why isn't there a delegation from Major League Baseball and not just them?

T.O. on Parcells: "Our play was not indicative of what we could have done. What we should have done. Hopefully, the owner will hire a coach to take the team to the next level.”

A slavery reference? When one can't think of any other reason, let's choose racism for 1000, Alex. Ok, Terrell, the answer is an NFL wide receiver with talent who spent too much time blaming others for his faults thus wasting what could have been a stellar, hall of fame career. Who is Donovan McNabb? No. Who is Jeff Garcia? No. Sorry, Mr. Owens, it is who is Terrell Owens? C'mon, this has nothing what so ever to do with racism. Being an asshole transgresses racial, ethnic, economic, political, and all other boundaries. Most of us, hopefully, wise up and learn from our mistakes as we mature, not the reverse.

Oh, by the way, Jeremy Shockey is not "full of energy", he is another loudmouth ass, but he at least seems to understand restraint. Besides, it is New York media. Those guys live in a fishbowl. Hey, how about Owens in NY? Think of the possibilities.....

Aw, for chrissake, at least know how to spell r-a-c-i-s-m. It must be that. It could not be about maturity. Of course, most could not make it in the NFL. That is not nearly the point. If he makes all that cash, he better damn well back it up and not make lame excuses about his lack of dedication and performance. This guy is a gifted athlete, but has turned into another wasted talent. Like I wrote before, sixth graders make excuses. Adults accept blame and understand what it is to be professional. I am sick of the race card always being played, especially with Super Bowl history approaching February 4.

Why is this idiot still getting attention? He is a pariah of the worst kind. His lowest comment came after he dropped a perfect pass which could have been a TD in the final regular season game. He said he was so frustrated that he had not been thrown the ball all game that he wasn't motivated. What an asshole. Like his fired publicist said, he has 25 million reasons why he should catch the damn ball. That's his job. Nothing more, nothing less. His job is to catch the ball when it is thrown to him, not short arm it when he goes over the middle. Face it, he is just not that good a receiver. It is poetic justice that Jeff Garcia took Owens' former team farther in the playoffs, after beating the 'boys late in the season. This jerk is a narcissistic team chemistry killer. He throws his teammates and coaches under the bus. Like a sixth grader, nothing is ever his fault. Andy Reid got fed up. The 49ers gave him away. Now Parcells gave up. It was really lame to see Jerry Jones with his arm around Owens, while Parcells was coaching. The problem is that he is still getting attention.

Not viable? It could easily be done with 16 teams over three weeks. Automatic berths would be awarded to undefeated Division 1-A teams, whether it is Ohio University or Ohio State. Then, strength of schedule would be a factor along with conference championships, etc. Bracket seeds would be selected much like the NCAA basketball tournament, which, by the way, always earns high TV ratings. The BCS has to go. Other bowl games could be played, but would not be included in the championship tournament, much like the NIT in basketball. Something has to be done. Division 1-A football is the ONLY collegiate, or professional, sport without anything than resembles a playoff system. Of course, there would always be teams left out which may not be chosen. However, it would avoid the fiasco of long layoffs between games and the LSU-Nebraska fiasco, where a team with one-loss trumped another undefeated team, USC, because the BCS selection committee decided it would make more money, which it did not. Think about it. The end of the NFL season and the NCAA football tournament, both in December? Merry f'in Christmas!!! Talk about football heaven!

The Big Ten has a strange tradition....all games are finished by final exam week. A bowl game on Jan. 8th? C'mon now. With a 51 day layoff, even Urban Meyer admitted this was a factor for the Buckeyes. "Too many banquets and you begin to believe you're good," he said. With the bowl games, BCS and otherwise, getting very poor TV ratings, this is even more reason for a playoff. By January 2nd, the champion should be decided. Most colleges are done with finals by the second week of December. The championship tournament could be played during this time and the championship game played Jan. 1. I, for one, am sick of hearing the "strength of schedule" argument. It keeps the power with the BCS conferences, a myth that was busted by Boise State. So what, they were the only Division 1-A team that went undefeated in 13 games. They deserve the shot just like all the other "mid-majors", unless there is another NCAA football division formed, which would further increase the BCS conferences' power. Oh, I forgot, it's not about finding what team is the real champion. It is about BCS conferences keeping a stranglehold on the money. Mediocrity is rewarded. A 6-6 record gets a bowl birth. It's ridiculous.

What about Dewayne Wade? He got away with pushing off Dirk Nowitzke with 1:20 to go in the final game of the NBA championship this year. Nowitzke got called for the foul. On the ensuing play, Wade pulled Josh Howard's jersey to keep him from shooting a three with about :50 left. No call.... Dallas was down by one when he pushed off and down by three when he pulled the jersey. No harm, no foul, right?!

Bengals Fans Can Call 'Jerk"'Hotline

Pretty scary...Not that I support boorish, obnoxious behavior, but aren't we becoming just a bit self-righteous to make such judgements? If the behavior is threatening, then fine. If it offensive, then it becomes a free speech issue. What enforcement powers does the "jerk" line/court hold? Where does the line get drawn? Believe me, I have seen the Raider Nation at its worst, but we are skating a very thin line.

College Football Rankings - Week 1

Here we go again touting the SEC...How many tough non-conference opponents do they play? How many of the six ranked teams that Florida plays are not in the SEC, or in the south? Tennessee, at least, plays California, which will contend for, and could very well win, the Pac-10 title this year. Are there any other SEC teams who are playing a ranked opponent outside of the conference? The SEC teams have a pattern of only playing conference teams or other teams south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Does Florida, Florida State, Alabama, or LSU play, for example, Ohio State, California, Notre Dame or other tough teams outside the region?

Landis Likely to Lose Tour Title

I agree with BikeNut....Why is the second test done by the same organization and not done by another lab? Why does it take longer to evaluate the second sample? I am not saying Landis is guilty or innocent, but the testing procedure is suspect.

Landis case politics and resentment of American athletes

There was already a post on this topic? Jeez, techno-weenies, calm down. Please, let's keep the language clean, ok? The piece was meant to elicit thought and ponderance. It was also not meant to promote any jingoistic ramblings about America vs. well, everyone, else. Perhaps the diplomatic and political climate promoted by the current administration has something to do with how Americans are treated outside its borders. At the World Cup, the bus carrying the U.S. team did not have any markings or decals with the flag, etc., for fear of repercussions and violence against them. Remember, both France and Germany, both democracies, refused to back the U.S. occupation of Iraq. However, let us keep the discussion on a more intelligent level than name-calling or using obscenities.

Coference controversy?

The fact still remains the top 25 teams the SEC played were either from their own conference or the south. Remember Florida State and Florida playing each other for the so-called national championship a few years back. Talk about ridiculous. What about LSU playing Oklahoma for the '04 BCS championship? Oklahoma, which had 52 scored on them earlier in the year, but won the conference championship game, should not have even been considered. California had lost to USC by less than a touchdown that year and did not make the BCS. USC played the Big Ten Champion in its game. LSU, the SEC champion, easily beat an inferior team. Their needs to be a championship bowl tournament. Conferences need to get rid of these conference championship games which a team frequently plays another team for the second time in a season. The SEC always seem to get off easy. USC versus LSU did not happen. The next year, USC pummeled Oklahoma 55-19. Where was the SEC? USC lost to Texas because the offense became predictable, which is coaching. White up the middle on fourth down was a terrible call. Let Leinhart roll out and run an option pass or run, or...punt. Remember Notre Dame? I agree about Texas until last year, when they did beat Ohio State in a close one. Once again, the conference championship game was a complete farce against Colorado. So, that leaves the Pac-10 and Big 10 with the toughest schedules, especially with a vastly improved Notre Dame team playing Michigan, Michigan State, USC, and other tough teams. By the way, if Notre Dame goes undefeated this year, which they very well could, are they considered for a BCS game?

Coference controversy?

It is hard to keep those southern conferences straight. Miami is now in the ACC. However, it does not excuse Alabama, Florida, Florida State and the other SEC teams from not scheduling tougher non-conference opponents. The Big 10, Big 12, and Pac-10 are the toughest conferences based on their schedules.

Coference controversy?

The SEC is the most overrated conference in the country. The teams hardly ever play teams outside of their conference, limiting competition to all southern teams when they do. Last year, Ohio State lost in a very close game to Oklahoma. Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, even ACC teams play a tough non-conference schedule (NC State recently played Ohio State two years in a row). When was the last time Florida, Florida State, or Miami scheduled a major non-conference opponent in the regular season? Florida State lost four games, but, because of the flawed BCS system, was given a berth last season. Even the Mid-American Conference, mostly for the money, schedules major non-conference opponents. The way to judge how competitive a conference is to look at their schedules. If SEC teams just limit games to other southern teams like Central Florida, then a fair assessment cannot be made.
