I caught this checking on my spofi league stats last night and saw Cobb's line. My eyes nearly popped out of my head.

Carlos Quentin makes his living by putting himself in the trajectory of rapidly moving hard objects. Consider the followingif you remove the plate appearances in which he got hit by a pitch from Quentin's career and pretend that they never happened, he would lose more than 3 WAR out of 8.6 WAR he generated over more than seven years in the majors. About 35 percent of the value Quentin generated for his employers has come by the way of a bruise.

What I don't get about Quentin charging the mound is that getting hit by pitches is one of his skill sets. Dude leads the league in HBP just about every year.

Heya, baseball league commish here. Sorry I haven't updated. Been caught up with some other things. Seems like everyone's on board for it or at least doesn't object to it, so I'll look into powering up the keeper rules today or over the weekend.

If you need it, the league number is: 22523
And the password is: stantheman
We seem to have a stable stable of players at this point. Is there any interest in converting to a keeper league? Yahoo's offering that as an option now. I'd keep the stat distribution we've been using.

There is still one thing missing, though, and that is The Hat. Each win has been gratifying this season, but none has come with a ridiculous trophy and bragging rights in a comically tepid rivalry. Nothing is more gratifying than an Illini coach who seems determined to imbue this rivalry with an actual amount of football hate and so BYCTOM salutes you, Tim Beckman, for burning your purple clothes with the zeal of Professor Plum hastily destroying the evidence, for denigrating Northwestern by replacing its name with a ludicrous directional euphemism, for hanging a "No Northwestern" sign in the Illini locker room, for desperately trying to make something out of this game other than a precious hat mounted to a base.

Heh. USC vs. ND is the ONLY time I ever root for USC. It's a shame they can't both lose.

I have a fake rivalry game this week. Northwestern vs. Illinois. The game almost never matters and Illinois just isn't much of a rival. It's a trophy game, but no one cares about winning the LOL Hat. And with the year they're having, NU should win comfortably. Our real rivals are Iowa and Wisky. Any year we beat either of them is a good year. We've had a string of good years lately thanks to Iowa.

SpoFi fan vote on who our MLB fans would to see in the WS.
Giants.
As both a Cubs and a Tigers fan, I've got no love for the Cards. Also, I mentally associate the Cards with being the MLB team of the south before the Braves and Senators moved south and the expansion teams popped up. Specifically, the '47 Cards did not exactly bathe the franchise in glory when facing the Brooklyn Dodgers and Jackie Robinson.

The Cubs needed to suck this year and maybe for a few years more to get rid of some of the bad contracts and start rebuilding. I'm looking forward to a Cubs team sans Soriano. Sounds like they might even manage to trade him this off-season.

Congratulations, sir.
My own team, Tyventasavalta, came in second after my batting slumped in the final two weeks of the season. Before then, we had been slugging it out for 1st with daily changes in the lead through the beginning of September. As it is, I just barely held off BrianN's Lemon Frosting who held on to third place fairly easily, as the top 3 placing teams pulled away from the pack in early August.

Rivera wouldn't be getting away with his reign of terror if Brian Wilson played for an east coast team. Wakefield, though, is not only more subtle with his obsessions, he has a special 'in case of Brian Wilson' trade clause. Not that I mind having a serial clown killer in town.
