Covenant has fired their coach after he repudiated the school's apology in an email to the local newspaper.

OK, granted I'm a bit of a Yankee hater, but they are trading for a guy who hit .219 last year, and another who had a 4.47 ERA in minor league ball? I'm reveling in this shit!

The man deserves more than a couple of dots. While I was just a bit too young to see him on the mound, I do know of his work in the booth. It was of the first order. He is beloved to many Indians fans. My condolences to his family.

I am in agreement with budman 13. I recently witnessed a rather non-competitive game, (not pro) and a defensive back made a tackle in the backfield. It went from 1st and 10 to 2nd and 12. He jumped and twisted and jived like he'd saved the world. Actually he was a member of the of the team getting creamed. Put some mustard on that hot dog, fool! Your team is still losing by 21 points! What on Earth do you have to dance about?

I'm no Gumbel fan, but I see this remark as being refreshing and all too accurate. NFL contracts are structured in such a way to allow useless agents to crow, but are in reality basically Monopoly money deals, as anything after the second or third season is extremely unlikely to be attained by the player who signs the contract. Bryant called a spade a spade, and the No Fun League is likely to have his ass for dinner as a result.

Eldin Auker was right. the old days were different. The plate did belong to the pitchers, the mound was higher, and the ball wasn't wound quite as tight. Gives me even more respect for those that were great hitters in a vastly different game than we see today. The ump has made his call, Eldin, and you are safe at home. RIP, brother.

As I type this, Michelle Wie is 1 under par through 12 holes of the qualifier. I don't have the info on the rest of the field, but I am pleased to see that she's doing well.

Taking someone's future away my ass! That punk threw his future away when he threw that bat. I hope his suspension is at least for the balance of the season, and would prefer not to see him next year either.

Bad day my ass, many of us had to deal with his sorry ass for weeks at a time. He tipped nobody well, acted like a deservedly priveleged asshole, and made constant demands for services that were not even part of our job description at the time. I'll not be listening to those of you who only heard him behind a microphone. I'll also not miss him.

I knew Gowdy when I was a bellman at a Cheyenne Hotel 30 years ago. He wore a neck brace, looked 80 at the time and well and truly a dick to all of the help less than the managers. As a D list celebrity from near there, they even named a state park after the asswipe. Arreviderci, dickhead.

Yes, ESPN did show a lot of Canadian football back in the early 80's when they were fairly new. A very entertaining game. They also showed quite a bit of Australian rules football.

That's an odd thing to say. I don't think so. Many of the latin players have a language barrier, and not enough effort has gone into clarification of what is and isn't acceptable with these players OR with sports officials in their home countries. Also, local testing that could spot potential problems isn't done in those countries because the cost is prohibitive for them. Perhaps MLB could invest a bit more on education and a bit less on hammers.

wfrazerjr, I must contest your comment about Koufax being one of the top pitchers. I find him to be a marginal HOF member at best. 12 seasons and only 165 wins in an era of 4 man rotations are not exactly awe inspiring. Check his career stats and rankings. You find a mediocre pitcher who came on with 4 good seasons and faded by 30 years of age. Comparisons to Gale Sayers, and more recently, Terrell Davis come to mind. A sympathy vote for a promising but short career does not a true Hall of Famer make.

I'm fully in favor of the ques-tec system. I like the consistancy it brings, and I firmly believe that an umpire who insists on having his "Personal strike zone" is entitled to nothing other than his own personal unemployment check. Next up for the axe, the mokes in the NBA that call travelling 7 out of every1500 times they see it.

And don't forget, the best trades are those which benefit both teams. No matter what Lewis wrote, nobody who knows the business of baseball (and Joe Morgan doesn't qualify) will be the least reticent to deal with Beane and/or Oakland. Rare is the GM not salivating over Tejada, and striving to put together the equation that can make the deal happen.

Here locally, we're very proud of Michelle. The main hope is that she is allowed to live a well rounded and balanced life. So far, it seems her parents aren't crossing the line as far as fanatic or overbearing. If she retains her interest, she has nearly unlimited potential. I wish her well.

I've had similar thoughts regarding the "thugs" for a few years now. The conclusion I came to is that the teams and players that win do so in a "team" mindset. The "thugs" have an overlarge "me, me, ME" style of play, not conducive to success at a championship level.

I have long opined that Pete belongs in the Hall of Fame, after he has servrd his lifetime ban.It is inconceivable to keep him out permanently, but equally so to allow him the stisfaction and wealth he would achieve through induction. After the way he crapped on the sport, posthumously is definitely the way to go.
