Kidd to Dallas: Take Two : In a revised deal that includes the semi-retired Keith Van Horn, Jason Kidd appears to be heading to the Dallas Mavericks after all. Does Kidd give them enough to win it all?

Question: Mavs have 15 players on roster. Signing Van Horn for trade would put them over max. Do they have to cut someone to sign and trade Van Horn, or is there some exception that allows them to sign and trade without reducing roster?

As to your question, Kidd can still play, so if he can mesh with other players and get them the ball, then they can win it all? However, if the Mavs are going to continue to try to fill the basket from the outside, then Kidd will not matter. They need an inside game, which is lacking and which it is questionable that Kidd can provide.

The big winner is this trade is Van Horn. He gets paid quite a chunk of money for taking a trip to New Jersey (league rules require him to report) to do basically nothing.

Note to other NBA franchises: I am available for a sign-and-trade deal as well. I'll even happily accept league minimum.

Great trade for the nets as they get younger with some potential stars. Dallas may have traded their future for maybe one to two years of hoping that Kidd can put them over the top to finally get a ring.

This is the reason why i haven't understood Dallas' obsession with getting Kidd. I understand he brings toughness and leadership, which they need, but they really need those things inside, where Kidd doesn't play. If you saw Dirk get posterized by Lebron in the All-Star game last night, then you know why ultimately i doubt that Dallas will get a title because of this deal.

Get your tickets for the second round; what a price to pay for a first round playoff series win. Where do we go from here, and who will back up Dampier, Erick? Not Dirk I hope- tried that and it did not work for years.. ?

Good move I guess. Kidd is an upgrade for sure - but they still have a horrible down-low presence.

I don't seem them in the class of the Spurs, Lakers, Jazz and Suns even after this.

Anyone catch the Phoenix/LA game yesterday? Whew - that was some BALL! Also - if one game means anything, then the Suns are in trouble. Shaq was playing as hard as I've seen in two years - and he's not nearly the impact player he was.

But Amare is going to be lights out with Shaq on the floor.
