Well, when the winds change, you adjust. I think it's called tacky...er, tacking.
Wow, the Yankees trade a star power-hitter for minor-league arms! Sounds like the bizarro world! That being said, you obviously never really know what you have in young, unproven arms, but in the Yankees situation, we're willing to take our chances. Dyams, how are the Yankees taking any chance by trading Gary Sheffield? They picked up the team option that Sheffield had agreed to in the beginning of his contract. It was quite obvious that the Yankees have no room for Gary, but they picked up his option because they knew teams were interested in him. This was a sign and trade deal, so really the yankees can do nothing but prosper. They get 3 talented pitchers for the price of nothing. If they had just let Sheff walk out, they wouldn't have any of these guys, so im not sure what you mean by saying that Yankees took a "risk". They signed and traded Sheffield instead of letting him walk out the door, and in the process, made sure that he didn't go to the AL East- great move all around by the Yankees, but I still don't see how it's a gamble or "taking a chance".
I still don't see how it's a gamble or "taking a chance". Because they still might end up with nothing for Sheffield, no matter where he goes. Until those three pitchers start racking up wins, they haven't done anything yet. As a Yankees fan, I'm assuming you've heard of this guy? Every signing in professional sports is a risk.
Dyams, how are the Yankees taking any chance by trading Gary Sheffield? The only chance is that these guys they picked up may never play for the parent club. I realize why they picked up the option on Sheff and what they were doing, and I thought all along they'd get rid of him. I was only saying that Sheffield played great in his few years in New York. It was an obvious move for New York, though, and I'm glad to see them going for some young arms. Or, like TBH said.
