Its been a long time. Look out baseball fans because the Detroit Tigers have made the playoffs for the first time since 1987.

Seriously?

Yay! This is particularly satisfying to us Tiger fans because of the utterly miserable seasons we suffered through in the last few years.Kudos to the Tigers and Jim Leeland.

As a Blue Jays fan, I will have to admit I was hoping for a bit of revenge for 1987, as the Tigers were coming to town to play three against the Jays. Damn you, Doyle Alexander!

Woohoo Tigers! It's been forever since they were worth cheering for. I have been keeping it on the down low all year not wanting to jinx a playoff berth. grum: As a Tigers fan, I damn Doyle Alexander more than any Jays fan could. Tigers have gotten plenty of bad kharma payback for the Alexander deal...he was aquired from the Braves for some prospect named Smoltz. I hear the Smoltz kid has had a pretty OK career.

I'm happy for the Tigers and there fans but they still have to beat the Yankees and that isn't going to happen. Believe me when I say, I'm not trying to rain on your parade.

Since Boston is and has been out, and the playoff picture is starting to take shape, I have to say I am totally rooting for the Tigers to go all the way, and yes, they can beat the Yankees. If the Red Sox could turn it around in 04 and sweep the Yankees, anything is possible.

Just maybe I will be able to say, "I watched the Tigers win the championship in 1968, 1984, and 2006. Go Tigers!!!

I've said all season that the Tiges need to learn to beat the Red Sox, White Sox, and Yanks to pull it off. They only have one of those left to worry about...but it's the Yanks. Tall order (and they may have to get through the first round before the Yanks are in their sights). I'm still nervous, but for the first time in a LOOOONG time, I can say that the Tigers have a chance to win the World Series. Focus! Focus!! Focus!!!

What a huge surprise - thanks to that ungodly hot start, they've made it look easier than it actually has been for a team that hasn't played consistently good baseball in over a month. However, I would fear that pitching staff if I were the Yankees... Well, maybe not so much - but it sure is an interesting match-up: Youth and pitching vs. the most veteran of veteran hitting (with some decent pitching). I look forward to the Bonderman/Verlander start in Yankee stadium. Of course, I'm assuming that's going to be the first round match-up. Am I wrong?

I don't think that it has sunk in on me yet. Maybe because I'm hoping that they take the pennant, too. But it's been a long time coming and I'm very proud of them. I WAS A TIGERS FAN BEFORE THEY WERE COOL...

If the season ended today, the Yanks would play the Twins and the Tigers would play the As.

Of course, I'm assuming that's going to be the first round match-up. Am I wrong? Like apoch said, the AL Central winner will play the A's and the wildcard winner will play the Yankees. So if the Tigers hold on, they may not have to play the Yankees at all.

I too am wishing the Tigers good luck and pulling for them this year (no Red Sox or Braves in the picture). Of course, having a girlfriend from outside of Detroit doesn't have anything to do with it. Maybe the can channel the spirit of the 84 Tigers, maybe the best team I've ever seen.
