Zach Lund from the olympic skeleton crew was just banned for this as well. There is a reason these items are on the banned list. I am sure this list is made available to every player and if they can't read it they should get their high paid agents to read it for them and tell them what it says. What gets me is he will not be punished from the NFL but can't play in international play for 2 years. From what the article says he wasn't even going to make the team anyway. I think this should make the NHL look into their testing and what products they ban. I look at the picture of this guy and see how bad his hair loss is.......NOT.

Maybe this article explains the reason for the banned substance. Covering up the steroid use that was used to aide the healing of this injury.

Canadiens team doctor David Mulder said that Theodore tested positive because the goalie has been taking Propecia, a hair-growth stimulant, for about eight years -- even though he has a full head of hair. God, I'd hate to be the one who has to brush his back...

Poor guy. Dad is a con. In the midst of a horrendous slump and has lost his starting role (at least until after the Olympics which totals a couple of games yet and the last few in the past) to a guy making about a tenth of his salary. The pressure of the hometown crowd. And now he's gotta go bald. Eeek.

Well, all interesting and stupid and everything, but his isn't even going to the Olympics, so whoppee. It's true, Propecia is banned because part of it's ingredients can be used to mask nandrolone. I must say, if Jose's on nadrolone he really needs to take a lot more. Up the voltage Jose - your hair is lovely but your save percentage stinks. This one's a red herring.

I can tell you that they are finally talking about hockey on the radio in NYC. I've been waiting weeks/months for this. We've got the first place Rangers, the Devils trying to keep a playoff spot or climb the ladder, and the debacle on The Island. And now, at long last, they're talking hockey. Of course, all the talk is about hair-growth formulas and Wayne's wife, with not one mention of the great stories about actual hockey in New York.

I look at the picture of this guy and see how bad his hair loss is.......NOT. It does look like his hairline is receding and he is doing one of those comb-overs. Maybe the propicia is for preventative maintanence. If/when I start going bald, I'm just going to shave the whole thing and go for the Kojak look, like Johnny Mac. Seriously though, these clubs are paying doctors and trainers. There is no excuse for this.

This is really a non-story. It's a medically prescribed drug that he's been using for 8 years. There are medical files to back up this assertion. He notified the NHL about this prescription well in advance and filled in the right forms. I don't think there is anyone that should be "blamed". This is one of those weird holes in the drug testing program for the Olympics. If there was ever a case for a judicial overturning of a ruling, this has got to be it.

Right. And unless I'm mistaken, it was going to be all Brodeur and Luongo in the tournament anyway, so this doesn't really change much.

Borduer, Luongo and Turco. The only way Jose is going is if he buys a ticket. He was just on the big list of players that was submitted to the IOC last year, and therefore subject to testing. I'm with grum though - total non-story.

The fact remains, even if he was taking Propecia for eight years, it's still a banned substance for the IOC. If he had any thought he'd be on the team, he'd have stopped taking it a year ago to get approved. All of the sports enterprises (NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA, IOC) should standardize their abuse rules and policies to avoid this crap. Look at Mark Messier, he was shaving his head for 15 years, and he still has a jolie jeune-fille for his wife. Theodore needs to get with it and accept nature's roadblocks, or admit what he was trying to do and accept it.
