From the linked article [bold emphasis mine]:
His jaunt ended when Steelers linebacker James Harrison body-slammed him onto the ground and held him for police.
Here is what Harrison said the day it happened [
bold emphasis mine]:
"When he first came out he took off after [Verron Haynes] ... He started toward our sideline, he turned around and started backing up toward our sideline, so I don't know if the guy had anything on him or whatever. With his back to me, I thought I could take him down safely without risking injury to myself or my teammates and hold him there until the proper authorities came." [source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette]
And here is what coach Bill Cowher had to say about it a few days after it happened [
bold emphasis mine]:
Cowher said if anything, money should be coming Harrison's way for the duty he performed for security in Cleveland Stadium. "Maybe for a thank you, I would think. No, James was protecting me. The guy was coming after me, that's what I told him, 'Thank, you.' ... "There is no chance of that [fine] happening, none whatsoever. Trust me. No way. It will not happen. I will not allow it to happen. He did a great job. Security, they ought to give him a little bit for what he did for them. He held the guy down; it took four of them to take the guy off. James could have just carried him out of there and thrown him into the stands or something ... it wouldn't have taken as long." [source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette]
"Peaceful restraint" may not have been the best option when he was perceived to be a threat by the players and coaches and security was not immediately intervening.
I left in the funnier bits of the quotes so I wouldn't be accused of presenting things out of context ;)Municipal Court Judge Joan Synenberg ordered Mallett not to attend Browns games in Cleveland or anywhere else. This is punishment? WHOEVER SAID THAT... IT IS PUNISHMENT, OK THE BROWNS MAY NOT BE THE BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE, BUT THEY WEREN'T THE WORST THIS YEAR AND THATS SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE IN CLEVELAND. SOME OF US HAVE BEEN BROWNS FANS ALL OF OUR LIFE, AND THE BROWNS HAVE SUCKED ALL OF OUR LIFE, BUT YOU DONT GIVE UP ON YOUR TEAM... SOMEDAY THEY WILL BE GOOD AGAIN... O YEA AND SCREW ART MODEL!!!
And some of us don't even yell all the time. The guy got what he had comming to him as far as the body slam goes. If you don't want hit buy a pro ball player, then don't run your drunk ass on the field during the game. As for the court sentence, it seems pretty good to me.
Hey drjimmy11, would you feel the same way if this guy had oh say maybe a gun, knife or god forbid some sort of explosive device? I bet your response would have been " I can't believe none of those player's stopped him, especially since they are 2 to 3 times his size and could have used their helmets as a weapon ". On another note thank you irunfromclones.......great link....laughed my a@@ off!!!

Nice link, irun ... two notes: 1) I'm pretty damned sure James Harrison must have wrestled at some point in his life, because that was a beautiful takedown. 2) Why the hell do people listen to shit like Ludacris? That whole musical clip was nothing but him repeating, "Move, bitch!" over and over. Wow -- what talent. He makes The Backstreet Boys sound like Beethoven.
Municipal Court Judge Joan Synenberg ordered Mallett not to attend Browns games in Cleveland or anywhere else. This is punishment? The judge could have ordered him to attend Lions games for the next five years, of course that could be a violation of cruel and unusual punishment.
Now, tell me this isn't a better example of justice than some sort of mandatory sentence. That's what I call having the punishment fit the crime.
Thanks wfrazerjr- 1) I'm pretty damned sure James Harrison must have wrestled at some point in his life, because that was a beautiful takedown. That was his patented QB sack until the NFL made it illegal. 2) Why the hell do people listen to shit like Ludacris? That whole musical clip was nothing but him repeating, "Move, bitch!" over and over. Wow -- what talent. He makes The Backstreet Boys sound like Beethoven. What can you say about a guy that mistook (and mispelled) early critic's description of his music (ludicrous) as praise.
What can you say about a guy that mistook (and mispelled) early critic's description of his music (ludicrous) as praise. I'd say that sounds like the kind of guy I want to listen to. Screw the critics.
