Terry Bowden's NCAA top 16 predictions

Now I know its a yahoo article and it is written by a Bowden to boot. But it should provide some good discussion.

Yeah there is no way Tenn. will No. 3, Florid is going to own them and also own the SEC. Go Gators. And on another thought USC plays Hawaii thier first game this year I know they probably win, but they better not relax, Hawaii isn't a bunch of chumps. It's a crime that North Texas was left off this list. Bowden should have extended the number of teams in his list until he reached the juggernaut of the Mighty Sun Belt Conference, which has one of the country's best running backs in Super Jamario Thomas. His boldest prediction is Texas beating OU in what may be one of the last games played by the teams in Dallas. I regard a Texas victory as impossible, though I'd love to see it.

I agree with rcade. When is someone going to acknowledge that UNT has been undefeated in their conference for three years in a row. It's time to move up the Mean Green, especially if they want to get some decent recruiting going. Go Mean Green! I hope that OU romps Texas like they usually do. I hate the color orange.

C'mon rcade...you know that TCU's got the far superior program in the metroplex. At least take heart in the fact that you're not a former Mustang. It'll be interesting to see how UT does this year. For at least the past 3-4 years, they've always started out the season in the top 5 of the polls and slowly but surely slipped and slided their way towards the 20 spot, usually damned by the Red River Rivalry. Here's hoping that trend continues.

I would hate to see it leave the Cotton Bowl... every first Saturday of the State Fair. All those memories of being thrown in jail in '76 for being drunk and disorderly on Commerce Street...only to be let out an hour before kick-off! Gotta love Dallas cops. And UNT (NTSU at the time)...that's where I turned down a soccer scholarship to join the Air Force...excuse me, all, while I stroll Memory Lane...

Texas and Oklahoma playing home and away? I had heard the rumor of this coming. I grew up in one of those cities and simply can add this: To Texan_lost_in_NY, I am not sure the cities are ready for the mess they are getting into. Dallas was about the only place that could handle it and is really why they played there! To gbottlerocket: The color is not Orange! It is Burnt Orange offically and there is a reason for that. As much as there is a reason for Oklahoma not being RED and White but offically Crimson and Cream. You see Burnt Orange comes from the fact that they have been burnt by Oklahoma so many times in Dallas that they have to admit it with their color. To the North Texas Sunbelt fans: Any time that North Texas would like to take Baylors place in the Big 12 South would be fine with me. They are just about as dangerous to the powerhouse schools in the south as Baylor and there would not have to even be a change in the Big 12 banner of colors! I will say in their defense they do play as well as Baylor. Hmmmm... was that a compliment even. I DON'T KNOW! Texas winning a National Championship? With the schedule they have put themselves into..... NO! The Red River Shootout? Well look for that Orange to get a little more burnt. See Texas wins when OU is on a downslide.... Like after Switzer left and the multitude of know nothings followed. Bobby has the Longhorns number! and yeah it belongs down there around #20 where Mac desires it to be... After all he could have had the Oklahoma job at one point being a member of Barry's staff that certainly would have been tagged the next Oklahoma coach but chose to be impatient and head east to hone his skills. Which didn't include learning a winning tradition! Yeah I said that I grew up in one of the cities of the two teams! With little hope of even getting to the National Championship Game this year, with a youthful team - Let the Red River celebration begin! On Lindsey Street where Bob Stoops and the rest of the Sooner nation knows it will be again! God Help Longhorn fans walking down Lindsey Street in a home and away type situation. I wouldn't expect Norman PD to be nice enough to let people out in time for the game nor would I expect it in Austin either! Sounds like the good old days will be gone for good Texan after this year! Lord Help Bevo and Johnny Appleseed, who knows what will happen to either of them! There was a reason to play in Dallas!

Are they going to start a home and away thing, rcade? Officially I don't think they've stated anything yet. However, with the Cowboys building JerryLand in Arlington and the Burn moving up to Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, the Cotton Bowl just isn't used much anymore. It's also in serious need of a facelift, but I can't see the city or county ponying up the money for it given it's (relative) lack of use. I've heard that the RRShootout may move to Arlington once the new stadium is open. If that happens, god bless anyone that tries to get on I-30 that weekend. Any time that North Texas would like to take Baylors place in the Big 12 South would be fine with me. *sigh*. I know the football program at Baylor is horrid and the men's basketball program has put itself in one hell of a bad position, but last I checked, Baylor had a pretty strong program in many other sports. Women's B-ball championship? Check. Men's Tennis Championship? Check ('04). Women's Tennis Individual Champion? Check. Two wins away from a College World Series Championship? Check. Gold Medalists in Track? Check all over the place.

Hey WarGator, if the wife and I come to your island (we're thinking Maui in Jan or Feb) we can have a SpoFi meetup. And argue the season's results because my alma mater USC is going to put a whipping on UH and the Gators too if your boys make it to the title game. Looking at their schedule the Trojans don't seem to have any serious threats (not that I wouldn't rather see a bit stronger non-conference lineup, mind you) though two road games could be difficult: if Willingham can get his team together by midseason or if Cal remembers they were the last team to beat us--in September 2003!. Otherwise USC will be saying hello, maybe to a traditional Big Ten opponent like Ohio State or Michigan, as we take our third straight fancy crystal trophy piece.

Win, lose or tie, I for Auburn 'till I die! We will probably not be in the hunt for the big game this year. However, if you would have told me last year at this time that we should have been fighting for the National Championship (I assure you it would have been a much better game than the one that we did watch), I would not have really expected to be there. Don't turn your back on the Tigers. WAR DAMN EAGLE!

Certainly the Volunteers designs on such lofty status hinge on their trip to the Swamp. They never could beat the Gators when they had Peyton Manning, and it is hard to picture their young QB matching bombs with Chris Leak. Can Urban Meyer step into the SEC pressure-cooker and compete toe to toe with the conference coaching dean right out of the box? With the rejuvenated Gator Nation on an emotional high, and the bad karma from last year's officiating travesty hovering over Fat Boy Phil and the Vols, I'm betting he can. If the Gators are not so jacked up they can't remember the plays, the Volunteers may be revealed as somewhat more ordinary than the expert consensus. Or even Terry Bowden's ravings.

Recent history dictates that the SEC will be won by the team least expected. Sorry, UF, Tenn, Auburn, but, as absurd as it sounds, this is UGA's year down yonder. Let's face it, once and for all: The SEC is the best conference hands down. Take the top six out of it and put them into any other conference and you'd have four to five undefeated teams vying for the Championship. As it is, they beat up on each other every year, most often the proud become the profane and the upset is the bait that has fans chomping for more like 'Big Dawgs' week in and week out. The only other region to produce talent of its sort is Texas--which looses most of it to the rest of the NCAA most years. Hmm...UTx? Playing SC for the championship of the free world? I could go for that. After all, the only reason Texas don't fall into the Gulf of Mexico is because (all together now) OK sucks!

While they will never get close to the top 25, i'm excited to watch my childhood side, UofARIZONA Wildcats, start the rebuild. by my count that program has been 25 years of mediocraty. I give them 5 years before they actually make the rose bowl.

North Texas???? WTF...they don't deserve any love. Last season's out of conference record at No. 8 Texas L 65-0 Fla Atlantic L 20-13 at Colorado L 52-21 at Baylor L 37-14 Southern Miss L 31-10 Come on! They got smoked by BAYLOR freakin' Baylor! I like Texas as well, but Stoops has always owned Texas and Mack Brown, I just don't see that changing. I also think that people aren't giving Bret Bielama in Wisconsin the benefit of the doubt, he completely changed the tone of a moribund Badger team last year, and now that Barry Alvarez is retiring and has named Bielama his successor, I look forward to many more years of backing the Badgers.

You guys just wait.USC vs. Texas in the RoseBowl for the NAC.Oklahoma lossed a Big 12 Championsip to K-State,lossed two to three straight Bowl games,the only thing O.K. has going for them is Peterson and their wins over Texas.The Key games for Texas this season are the Ohio matchup,Redriver Shootout, and the final conference game with A&M.If Texas should win those three,they should be the over all#2 behind USC if the Trojans stay undefeated,wich I would bet on.The Big 12 is the conference for Football.We got the mighty Sooners,the Longhorns,the historic and soon back to greatness Nebraska,also the Aggies have shown National promise with out last years cottonbowl,the raiders have always played some great offense,Tech just needs some killer D.The Cowboys and Cyclones have made their way to National competetors,with the Jayhawks coming off a better season than usual.My conferences rank:Big 12,SEC,Big 10,ACC,Pac 10,......

Is the Raiders' ex still coaching at Nebraska? I don't see a resurgence for that school until he leaves. You know what would be fun: a football version of the ACC/Big Ten basketball whatevertheycallit. With switches so different conferences play different years. That would settle some of these questions, for a time.

North Texas deserves some love for its 25-game conference winning streak, the longest current streak in the nation. Maybe not a lot -- the mighty Sun Belt Conference doesn't get much love itself -- but definitely some. Also, the Mean Green killed Baylor the year before in Denton. No fair mentioning the shame of losing to them without also describing one of our great out-of-conference triumphs. And the refs really had it in for the Mean Green during that Texas game.

No offense, rcade, but counting Baylor as a "great out of conference triumph" just, uh, well...it lacks. That said, enjoy another SBC championship and the subsequent N'Awlins bowl. I hear those Denton folks enjoy the partying.
